Apparently, those soft yellow custards were broas! I never thought that broas could be that soft. I'm used to them being hard and crunchy. Bought by my cousin from Betsy's in Malabon. That was my Tita's explanation to those asking where they got those broas. "Dumayo pa siya doon?" Other relatives replied. Probably, they were amazed that my cousin would go out of his way to buy a box of broas. One after the other, they got a serving of Betsy's broas. I got really curious and gave Betsy's delicacy a try. It was buttery and easily melts in the mouth. Very yummy indeed! As I write, I still find it weird to call those yellow custards broas. Great, bright lighting and spacious tables make getting work done super easy. The staff is also very friendly and accommodating! Food isn't bad either. I normally get their Americano (P80), and for the price, it's huge! The ice cubes made of coffee they include are also a great touch, and make it an even better value for a quick caffeine fix. Pastries are the name of the game here. I am personally a fan of their croquettes, egg tarts, and cream puffs. I'd pass on the scones, though. They were too dry and flavorless for me. They also offer bingsu. I've had some of a friend's and it tasted pretty good, with the ingredients looking fairly fresh. Their neat display and the super cute presentation of the pastries and cakes will make you want to pick up almost everything on the shelf and make a run for it. If you're lucky, they also have a bread sale near closing time, so plan your Formosa trip accordingly. One of my favorite pastries from Formosa is their Cream Cheese Bread. It's a great match with your morning coffee and the size of the pastry itself is pretty large. The bakery also did a fantastic job in making sure the portion of the filling is generous and it is. Another thing that I love about their baked goodies is the way they present the food so it's more appealing to the eyes. This Cream Cheese Bread has a large star stamped on top - and even their other baked goodies like the floss is nicely displayed on top of the pastry. Their cakes are okay, I think it depends whether you like your sweets super sweet or not. I like mine in between, and I think their Chocolate Strawberry Mini Cake is just right for those who don't really have a sweet tooth. I really can't say too much about this place. Candy has this sort of effect on people where no two experiences will ever be the same. They didn't have any in stock during my visit so I had to drop by the next day. To my horror. I went back first thing in the morning and sure enough, a whole cake was there waiting for me. I think a single slice costs around Php 125, which isn't really bad. We're talking about premium cakes here. The Haw Haw cake reminded me of tres leches, for some reason. Light chiffon, a little moist. It has a thin cream filling and the frosting tasted exactly like the candy, only better.
