I was in Amsterdam with my father for a few days and we went searching for this bridge. We found it, but it looked a bit small and was in the wrong place on the map. Turning to our right, however, we saw the correct Magere Brug!
Magere Brug literally means 'skinny bridge' although there is another story that goes something along the lines of two sisters living either side of the canal paid for the bridge so that they could visit each other - their surname happened to be Mager. I believe the least complex story, that it's just a fairly narrow bridge, but it's always nice to have the romantic version too!
You can walk across it, see it being opened if you're lucky and it's beautifully lit up at night. If you like bridges, this one is lovely!
Oh and if you like canal locks, there are some big ones just the other side of it!
Oh, one more thing...! It was featured in the James Bond film "Diamonds are Forever"! (Thank you Wikipedia!) read more
