Upon checking in, Jan eyed us up and down and did not know what to make of two feminine women who didn't seem to just be friends, let alone an inter-racial couple (she would later tell us how open she was and even wanted to someday buy a purple Polka dotted bus and park it outside her church just to show how "accepting" she was...yes, like you, we do not know what that means either). Please keep in mind, that the entire time we spent on this porch with her she refused to make eye contact with my partner, who is a woman of color (she would continue to lean on her racist, gross belief that the white woman in the relationship must be the one paying for everything). Fast forward to the morning, where we would get knocks on our door for breakfast, jolted out of bed by her telling us we must get up. We were worried what would occur if we didn't join the other guests for her breakfast. We joined everyone in the dining room, where Jan stood over each guest and would ask if you didn't finish your plate "if you did not like it? No appetite?" Awkward to say the least especially when this was not a relative who you had to politely deal with. During the breakfast, we would hear off conversations from Jan's sermon (yes you read that right) of wanting to be like the English, her pride of Daughters of the Revolution and how she wished her family had come over on the Mayflower to even talks of how amazing the 13 colonies were and how pure New England blood lines are and her love of being a devote White Anglo Saxon Christian. Meanwhile her husband, Jim stood behind her looking rather afraid and traumatized (victim we presume and he isn't allowed to leave the kitchen). She even gave the group a question and answer of how each couple met but with no surprise, stopped at us, smiled weirdly and then went to the next couple. At the end of the weekend, we checked out as early as we could and never looked back again. Do yourself a favor, and check out other spots in Berlin; this one is just not worth it.

She also called her to check in on her while she was driving. It was storming really bad. I don't know of any motel staff to have ever done this. It really meant a lot. The parking is free and easy. The motel is a short walk to the beach and only a hop on the beach bus to get to the boardwalk. This would be a better option to walking because it is almost three miles to the boardwalk. The bus is $4 cash (exact change only) and you can ride all day. There are several places to eat within walking distance. If you are on a budget, not looking for lavish amenities and want a clean place to lay your head, you will be fine here.

First thing, customer service over the phone was extremely good, I called a few times with a few questions and they answer them respectfully and with no rush. Upon arrival, checking was smooth and welcoming. The complex has a luggage cart, which that was a great help for us because we had A LOT of stuff, there is also an elevator. The complex is extremely clean and doesn't smell like dogs are around. The staff are welcoming and helpful. There's a guy named Steve, he is so nice. One of the days we were there it rain in the AM and my boys wanted to go in the pool after. He came and made sure the pool was clean. The next day he was cleaning it early making sure it was ready for the guests. The rooms are clean and smell clean. The pictures of the room speak for itself. We had a room with a kitchenette and it brings lots of items. The beach is 1 block walking distance. Just get ready in your room and walk up. Locals are so welcoming. They have a few shopping places around also within walking distance. The boardwalk is not close by. We are set that is our place of choice from now on.

The kitchen, which used to be a lovely shared space, was now a mess that looked more like a storage closet. The front porch was littered with old cups and cigarette butts that were never cleaned up during our stay. The worst part? After we got home, I realized I'd been double charged. We made our reservation directly from their website and paid a deposit of half the stay. We received a call to confirm all the details a few minutes later. We arrived around 10:30 PM, and Marie, the owner, was already there waiting for us! She explained a few policies and amenities and quickly checked us into our room. The overnight security guard introduced himself to us and told us to let him know if we needed anything. The overall vibes were just comforting and cozy. This place is geared towards being more quiet, so if you're planning on blasting music and being loud, there may be a better place for you! The hotel has an older feel, but that didn't bother my boyfriend and me at all (we are in our early 20s). They let us borrow beach towels, you can buy a bag of ice for $3.50, and baked goods are served at 7 PM. The brownies were SO GOOD. I wanted the whole batch. Since this hotel is smaller, there is really no room service or anything like that. But housekeeping comes daily to change towels and make the bed. The hotel is only a 5-minute from the boardwalk, which was so convenient! They also give recommendations on where to go during your stay :) A few hours after we checked out (11 AM), I received a 'Thank You' ecard from the hotel, which warmed my heart! On to the accomodations: Although not easy to find, the location is absolutely perfect -- on the Bay, overlooking Fagers Island restaurant and the Route 50 Bridge. The building itself hides how nice the rooms are. 2 person hot tub, 4-poster bed, incredible views of the bay. The fridge comes stocked with complimentary drinks, and when you return to your room at night candles are lit and there is banana bread on the counter. I wished my wife was with me! There's plenty to do nearby in the quaint town of Berlin Maryland. Antique shops, thrift shops, boutiques, cafes, galleries, museums, parks, and historic sites abound. Just a few miles away is Ocean City, which combines beach, boardwalk, and amusement. The office team for check in, check out, and information is terrific!
