We went and saw Bart Rockett's Magic & Comedy show today in Destin thinking it would just be one of those "tourist trap, kill a couple hours, maybe laugh once or twice" type things... Nope. Somehow this man managed to put on a show that both of us honestly thought was BETTER than Mac King's comedy magic show we JUST saw in Vegas recently. And that's not me being dramatic for a yelp review or anywhere else I share -- we walked out genuinely shocked at how good it was. First off, Bart is hilarious. Not the awkward "dad joke magician" funny either. Legitimately funny. The kind where you're laughing because he catches you off guard every five minutes. Then out of nowhere he starts doing ventriloquist bits that I swear deserve their own show by themselves. We were dying laughing. But then the magic itself? Actually insane. Not the cheesy "pick a card while I distract you with jazz hands" kind of magic. Multiple times we just looked at each other like: "How the hell did he just do that?" And what made the whole thing even cooler was how great he was with the kids in the audience. We didn't bring our kiddos on this trip, but every single child there got involved somehow. You could tell he genuinely enjoys making kids feel included instead of just using them as props for the act. Honestly, next time we come back to Destin, bringing the kids to see this show is already on our list. The biggest surprise though? After the show we got to talk with Bart for a bit, and the guy is just ridiculously humble and down to earth. No ego. No "performer persona." Just a genuinely kind dude who took time to talk with us, joke around, and make us feel appreciated for coming. That stuff matters. Anyone can learn tricks. Not everyone can make people feel welcomed and give them a memory they'll actually talk about the rest of the trip. Hands down the best money we've spent all week in Destin on our honeymoon. If you're debating going... go. Seriously. 10/10. Would happily get my mind blown again.

But this review is about his talents--not what a wonderful guy he is. Lou loves to perform and it shows. I videotaped one of his performances (search Lou Zocchi on YouTube to find it) and he is a very skilled magician, equally proficient at entertaining children and adults. I've never seen Lou do his clown act, but he's never without a supply of balloons wherever he goes so he can do balloon animals for the kids. And kids gravitate to him which makes him the ideal person to hire for a children's birthday party dressed as a clown, a magician, or just to tell jokes (he's a very funny guy.
