Open until 10pm you probably won't find a later opening pharmacy in the area, and because of it's location on O'Connell Street near O'Connell Bridge you would find yourself passing it reasonably often. Location brings other things too, like the constant feeling that the security people are going to jump you if you move too close to anything in the shop! And price are a little higher than the more suburban pharmacies, but I guess you can't complain when the location and opening hours probably make that necessary.

The chemist behind the counter is quite helpful, recommending what medication and products to take over others. Hickey's stocks basic cosmetic and beauty products so if you need hair spray or concealer in a pinch, you can find it here. One more thing worth mentioning is that it has a digital photo machine that prints and does enlargements.

The last time this happened was with last months script. With the result I had to go back and request the missing item again. Yesterday when my wife collected my repeat prescription she was told I needed a new prescription for next month. I didn't - again they had to be chased up later the same day to check the script. There was in fact another month left on the script. The staff don't appear to be tuned in. I have collected the script and will not be using McCabes in future for any prescriptions as it is getting beyond a joke. Last year I was given my medication with another persons name and address on the package. The name was the same, but address completely different. They don't appear to have any controls in place. AVOID.

The staff are excellent, very knowledgeable and always ready to help if you need anything. They have quite a good selection here from make-up to hair dye to vitamins and everything in between. You'll always find a good deal in here, be it on make up or vitamins or even jewelry, there's something for everyone. Their pharmacy is great, the pharmacists are very good at their job, they're respectful and pleasant to deal with. They have a security guard in the shop, which is quite comforting, I think. However, it's quite a small pharmacy with not much in the way of cosmetics and toiletries, which are also a bit more expensive than places like Boots and the Supermarket. No chit means I can't claim tax back and tax returns do add up. I asked three times if the printout was there and both parties confirmed it was. Yes, you guessed it. When I got home and checked, there was no sign of it. I phoned the chemist and told them. ZERO apology for their ineptitude and they wanted me to return to the pharmacy to collect the printout. I reminded the person I was speaking to that an apology would be in order but she said they were very busy. I said that 'sorry' was 5 letters long and didn't cost anything to say. I asked the person I spoke with to post me the printout. When I finally received the printout, the eircode was so far off the correct Eircode, that it's a miracle the item got to me. Avoid like the plague. I've never gone back and I don't intend to frequent this place again.
