What a great aquarium shop!!! This place is just awesome…read more I am a saltwater reef aquarium enthusiast, but this store made me want a freshwater, planted tank, again in a bad way. I have been contemplating setting up a tank in my office at work. I wanted a clownfish and anemone tank, but planted freshwater is much easier to manage when traveling for work and not being around to take care of it. Small saltwater tanks (under 150 gallons) are not ideal really. The evaporation wreaks havoc on the salinity and trace elements. One gallon of evaporation on a small salty tank will alter salinity big time. Salinity is measured in "Specific Gravity". Specific gravity is the ratio of a substance's density to the density of a reference substance, usually water, and is a unitless quantity used to compare the density of substances. A specific gravity of 1 means the substance has the same density as water, while values greater than 1 indicate it's denser and will sink in water, and values less than 1 mean it's less dense and will float. So what that means really is, as the water evaporates, the salt stays behind and raises the "density" of the water thus putting more pressure on the inhabitants within. Sorry.... Went on a tear there.... now you know though.... You are welcome. The owner of the place is super cool, very helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Win. Win. Win. He only does fresh water and is an authorized Fluval dealer with all of their lines of aquatic goods, as well as small nano type tanks all the way up to the all in one 80 gallon tank. Nice stuff! Built in Fluval filtration makes it easy to maintain. If you are curious about freshwater aquariums, I believe this is the best place to go. No doubt there is more experience in this hobby, than with Richard, than anywhere else. I've been buying corals from him for 20 years. Way back when he sold out of his friend's garage, LOL. He was the owner of MemFish back in the day when it was good. Jerk off bought it from him and ran it into the ground. I actually worked the weekends at his place for a couple years. Practicing my craft, you see. I even had my own show tank at the store. It was badass. Anyway. He's still building his new business and needs all the support you can give. I've been feeding him corals out of my tank for a min now, picking up new ones to grow, and restocking my fish now again as well. I got some bad ass fish there recently. Gem Tang is my highlight. $1500 online and it was only $550 here!!! Holy shit, what a deal!!! Magnificent Foxface was only $200! What!?!? I can't wait to see what else I can find here! Also, there are other reasons why this corporate store displeases me: 1) This store is wasting precious ground water by allowing the toilet in the men's restroom to continually leak. I've previously reported this issue, and the problem persists. 2) Employees need to more often empty the trash can located at the front entrance. It's not sanitary to have garbage overflowing out of the receptacle. I informed an employee, and no action was taken to correct the issue. 3) If a manufacturer's coupon is attached to a product's packaging and for sale in the store, that coupon should still be honored whether or not it has expired. I've consistently found Hollywood Feed to be much more responsive to their customers, so they remain my primary source for my pets' supplies. So, two-and-a-half stars, rounded down to two stars for failing to show signs of improvement over the past year or so.

Dog Injured At Pet Smart Boarding…read more We took our sweet puppies Princess and Sparkle to be boarded at Pet Smart over the weekend. At or about Sunday, October 17, 2021, Pet Smart began bombarding my wife with calls from morning to afternoon. We learned that something happened to Sparkle's leg, but mysteriously no one knew what happened. At first we were told that there was an injury to Princess, but we were then told that it was Sparkle. We were told that Sparkle would be taken to a Vet. When Princess and Sparkle were picked up this afternoon, she came home with a dog cone around her neck and a STAPLE in her CUT leg. I don't care if we were not charged for boarding and the Vet fee was free as a result, this is downright negligence. I would really like to know what the hell happened to my dog's CUT leg, because I have a hard time believing that no one knows. The question becomes, what would the very likely trail of blood tell you on the floor near wherever the mysterious injury occurred. There had to be blood near where the injury occurred. My issue is, just be honest and tell the truth. Don't make stuff up, especially when my dog comes home with a STAPLE in her CUT leg. It's dishonest and I will not be taking my dogs back here again. I recommend that no one brings their dogs to board here. I would give this place 0 starts for the experience if I could. My dog is traumatized!
