He called Pentair tech support several times and still was unable to figure out the issue but raised the gas pressure even though that had never been an issue and nothing had changed since installation. In the end he spoke to a Pentair salesman that their company was familiar with who suggested turning a gas valve screw. It appeared to work and heater finally stayed lit. It was only after this I was told the bill was over $600. When asked what the additional $400 was for, i was told it was for "advanced" diagnostics. I guess the phone calls to Pentair? I was then told the initial diagnostic fee only covered 30 mins, and the additional time was $200 an hr. I was NOT told this before the appt and at no time did the tech tell me there was going to be an additional charge if he kept trying to figure out what was wrong. Task to speak with the owner and was given a women on the phone who was very rude and told me never to contact the company again. refused to pay the "advanced diagnostic fee". Less then 24hrs later the pool heater overheated and shorted out the Stack Flue Sensor and stopped working. I have emailed the company several times and they have not responded. It now appears that their "fix" may have caused additional damage to the heater. I have been in contact with Pentair and they agree. I requested at a minimum a refund or that they return and fix the heater correctly. No response. Its very disappointing as they were recommended by a friend. Edited to add on 6/19: The pool technician came today and determined the heater has been destroyed by Northern Comfort. It is not even repairable now. This heater is not even 2yrs old... Company still refuses to respond to my emails. Will only respond to the bad reviews i posted. It will now cost me $3900 to get a new heater and have it installed.

I am not known for poor reviews but this is one of them…read more Hired Isaac a couple of years ago for an inspection and cleaning on our furnace, tankless water heater and air conditioner. Was pleased with the service so we bought one of their expensive maintenance plans. First of all, you have to call them every year to return for a cleaning and inspection. They should call us to schedule service thru their expensive plan. Fine. We are considering moving so I called for an inspection and cleaning. They wouldn't do the A/C bc it was February. Again, fine. Well the nightmare began. Now keep in mind everything worked perfectly prior to this service. Again, cleaning and inspection. Tech started inspection. Soon I heard a half hour of very loud metallic banging. I asked how it was going and was told he was trying to free a part to clean and check it. In the end, couldn't get it. Specialist had to return. Specialist returned and said igniter was bad. Changed it and it cost $162 which was the cost after the $600 maintenance plan previously mentioned. Pretty quickly we noticed more trouble. No hot water for a number of minutes. You may say no big deal but try running your bath for 3 to 5 minutes bf you get hot water. This happens on every faucet too. So we called again. Tech came and now found a bunch of gas leaks and the heat exchanger was bad. Cost $300 after their wonderful $ 600 maintenance plan. They also repaired some of the gas leaks. Said RGE had to fix another one. RGE came and said no leak. Hmmmmm... And I can't help to wonder how much of this is a result of the first Tech banging away full force on a very intricate and fragile piece of equipment. And we don't even have the new heat exchanger installed yet!! No call with an update, no call to schedule appt. Nothing. 2 months ago we called for an inspection. $500 later (not including the investment in the $600 maintenance plan) we have a non properly functioning water heater, no appointment and no plan. So much for hiring a big company for expertise, service and peace of mind. Ill update when, I mean if this gets resolved.

I asked him to tell me the size so I could run to Lowes to get one for him to install. He gave ne the size and I drove and purchased the size he indicated. When I returned, he told me he 'found one' in the corner of he basement and installed it. He then left. I took the new filters down to place them near the furnace for the next change, and found that he had put an oversized filter in the slot, leaving 5 inches protruding from the filter slot. This is shoddy work. He was too lazy to measure the correct filter size, and took a shortcut so he could leave. I measured the filter slot for the correct size, and did the trip back to Lowes for the proper filter. I wouldn't recommend them.

I totally get there is an up charge but $639.63, that seems a bit outrageous! I own a vacation rental business and emergency assistance is needed from time to time. As an example, Halco ( heating company) came out on an emergency on a Sunday last year, couldn't fix it and charged me $150! Why didn't I call them, you ask, I was out of town and my partner took care of this. Halco was out on other emergencies, so they couldn't come out. I just can't see how this company can justify that amount of money? BTW, Dan, my now main heating guy, came out on Monday and was able to do a temporary FIX for a $125!!! The house required a new unit and he put one in one Wednesday, at such a fair price! No fix $639 vs. temp fix $125.!!!!!!

Called him back to ask him to put it back, and he berated me over the phone saying he would be liable if he put the pipe back and we didn't have a liner installed. She sent 2 techs out the very next day who ruined the pipe even more (they tried to align it but left a huge gap and taped it back together with tape that is not rated for fireplaces!) and also tracked mud and soot all over my kitchen and carpet. If you have a warranty be very clear that they service THAT warranty, that the look at the warranty. My furnace wasn't working, I took the morning off to meet them so when they said it wasn't covered under the warranty, I was desperate and trusted them. The next day I found out it was covered, Empire wasn't honest. They weren't a contractor for that warranty company, Goodman/Goodcare/Asure. They charged $485 for the part and only refunded $250 and claimed the rest as labor which the tech said he was being nice and not charged me. But the warranty covers labor, but Empire isn't a service provider for said company. So I am being blamed by the warranty company for trusting Empire, Empire claims the are not liable because they didn't install the furnace. Integrity is not something they have, find another company if you don't have to use them.
