On May 17th we had Northern Comfort come to service our pool heater. We were quoted $99 to come out and $99 for diagnosis. The tech arrived and could not figure out the issue. He called Pentair tech support several times and still was unable to figure out the issue but raised the gas pressure even though that had never been an issue and nothing had changed since installation. In the end he spoke to a Pentair salesman that their company was familiar with who suggested turning a gas valve screw. It appeared to work and heater finally stayed lit. It was only after this I was told the bill was over $600. When asked what the additional $400 was for, i was told it was for "advanced" diagnostics. I guess the phone calls to Pentair? I was then told the initial diagnostic fee only covered 30 mins, and the additional time was $200 an hr. I was NOT told this before the appt and at no time did the tech tell me there was going to be an additional charge if he kept trying to figure out what was wrong. Task to speak with the owner and was given a women on the phone who was very rude and told me never to contact the company again. refused to pay the "advanced diagnostic fee". Less then 24hrs later the pool heater overheated and shorted out the Stack Flue Sensor and stopped working. I have emailed the company several times and they have not responded. It now appears that their "fix" may have caused additional damage to the heater. I have been in contact with Pentair and they agree. I requested at a minimum a refund or that they return and fix the heater correctly. No response. Its very disappointing as they were recommended by a friend. Edited to add on 6/19: The pool technician came today and determined the heater has been destroyed by Northern Comfort. It is not even repairable now. This heater is not even 2yrs old... Company still refuses to respond to my emails. Will only respond to the bad reviews i posted. It will now cost me $3900 to get a new heater and have it installed. read more

I came home to find an error code on our gas furnace after a power outage. We were leaving on a trip in a few hours. I was so pleased that when I called Northern Comfort they sent a technician over within an hour. One hour of work and he had the furnace up and going. They made sure everything with installed properly, educated us on how to use the new unit efficiently and cleaned up any mess that was made during the installation process. We hired this company to put in a new pool heater. Our normal pool person was out of town and we appreciated having it put in before a large surprise party. We got a call from our regular guy suggesting we go electric. we needed an estimate on 220 so put a stop- pay on deposit over the weekend. on Monday we released the funds as we felt electric was too expensive. They put the heater in and did a great job but the day before the party 5 days after installation it started leaking. They wouldn't answer our calls even tho they had given us a cell phone. when they did finally call my husband was very upset as no discussion on fixing just told us to take a picture. Now we get a letter saying they will not honor our 3 year warranty which was the big reason we hired them. read more

My pool heater was installed in 2004 and this year it was not working properly. They failed to tell me they cannot repair equipment more than 6 years old as it is outside the warranty window. They then charged me $100 dollars for the visit and didn't even look inside the heater. I could have told them the year of the equipment over the phone saving their tech time and me 100 dollars. I ended up fixing the heater myself for 15 dollars. I wouldn't recommend them for any repairs as they only tried to up sell me new equipment that they are familiar with. read more

The night before a big winter storm, our heater stopped doing its job (you know, HEATING). We called our "usual" HVAC company but they were busy with three other customers. A friend referred us to Northern Comfort Heating and Cooling, so we called late on a Friday evening and left a message. Shortly after, we received a call back from Peggy. Carl then spent a few minutes helping us troubleshoot the problem with our furnace over the phone, which was very appreciated. He was at our house within an hour, fixed our furnace within an hour, and charged us a VERY fair price. We look forward to utilizing Northern Comfort again (although hopefully NOT due to a lack of heat)! read more

Service tech called ahead and was actually a bit early. Identified and resolved the problem within about an hour. Tech was polite and professional and I was very satisfied with the results. CONSUMER ALERT!!! NORTHERN HEATING AND COOLING SCAMMERS!! BE CAREFUL!! Carl installed 3.5 tons unit in 2015 (Air Equip), because I knew him not that I knew anything about his company 'Northern...' . During last summer of 2016 around the end, my unit stopped cooling the house. I called Carl directly and told him about the problem. We cracked a few jokes and told me that he will stop by when he get a chance. I didn't hear from him for a while. Weather was cooling off so I didn't bother him at all. When I called him again one day, he came in with his family member. While they were looking at the unit, Carl's father walked in from the backyard. Carl Senior lived right behind me. Irony is Carl Junior himself sold this house to me. These 3 guys spend like an hour outside while I came back in and get back to my work meetings. After like an hour, I stopped hearing anything outside. I look outside the window and their vans were gone. I was very surprised and confused/suspicious. IN the past, Carl has installed this unit and he came in with the bill when he was done. Long story short, I called Carl and left a message and ran into his co-worker at TOPs. He told me that there is a leak in the AC Unit when they looked at it, and they couldn't find any so they filled it with the gas again and billed me. When I told him that I didn't get the bill, he said he will stop by but never did. He asked me to run the AC when weather start getting warmer in 2017 and let them know if gas has leaked again. So it did happen. I turned the AC on April's warmest day (80degrees), and it was not cooling at all. I called Carl again and left a message. I didn't hear from him in 2 weeks. So I called him again and left a frustrated message about the broken AC that was installed by him. He called back with a very annoying tone and asked me to pay the bill that I have never seen. It was almost like he blamed me for not paying him. I confronted him about the bill and he showed up at my house with the bill. He showed me itemized bill for ~$500. This bill was generated in Dec 08, 2016. But Carl insisted that AC was working when they left last year. I showed him that this AC is not working and I have not used it since they worked on it. He couldn't answer that or seemed like he didn't want to. When I asked Carl that 'Does he know what is wrong with the AC and does he know what he is doing to it?' He looked at me and said I am done here and walked outside slamming my door with his buddy who was waiting outside like a muscle man. Come on man this is not WILD-WILD-WEST. Any ways, I and my kids are without the AC this summer after spending $4500 on a brand new central AC (Air Equip). So this is the experience I have with this incompetent company. I have already spend ~$200 on ISAAC to come-in and confirm that I need a new unit. BUMMER read more
