I like this store. Ok it's the only "real" grocery store in town so I like "THEE" store. Clearing…read morethe air right up front-3 stars because they raise their prices during ski season, because they can. Locals, literally, pay the price... So with that out of the way. Meats. Great deli! I will skip purchasing meats at most larger grocery stores out of town and wait for the meats here (not deli meats $$), but pork, chicken, beef go for it. Bread and cookies are available cooked fresh and are delicious. Breakfast bread, French bread, Italian, hard rolls. Chocolate chip, cranberry orange walnut, oatmeal, kitchen sink cookies. Love love love the cranberry orange cookies-addictive... Fresh produce from locals and far away, with great specials making prices competitive. Fresh herbs. And dried herbs in gigantic shakers for great prices. Asian section is healthy for this little place. Wine reasonably priced if on sale. But they have a great selection for a little place. Little booze section and mixers, cigarettes, condoms, light bulbs, Benadryl, candy, seriously everything you need... Family owned joint (family owns half the town and the Jordans own the other half) and not just a passerby stop off out of desperation. A quality selection. Too bad the seasonal pricing (yeah, it chaps me)...

I shopped at Tranten's in Kingfield on New Year's Day 2019. The positives are that they were open…read moreand that they have a good selection. The bad news is the service or lack of. Since I couldn't find a needed item, I asked when checking out if someone might locate it for me; the cashier said she would slow down her checkout, and I could go look again. She told me the baking section, but gave the wrong aisle number. After locating the baking section, I looked and could not find my needed item. When I returned to the cashier saying I could not find the item, I was told it was there; no offer to help me look despite an almost empty store. When I got home I found that a heavy item had been loaded on my fresh tomatoes rendering them pulp. Overall, again, this store has a good selection, but the two employees, whom I encountered, seemed to care less about the shopper's needs.

Mountainside Grocers is a small grocery store adjacent to Sugarloaf Resort, just off Access Road,…read moreand the only grocery store for many a mile in any direction. I think the closest large grocery store is an hour away. Not surprisingly, given its proximity to the ski resort, they have skier- / traveler-friendly prepared fare (e.g. hot and cold sandwiches, salads, fried and roasted chicken). But there's so much more: a good selection of fresh produce, meat, yogurt, butter, baked goods, canned goods, medicines, wine, beer and liquor, milk, ice cream, birthday cakes (frozen)... In short, anything you would find at a much larger grocery store and just about anything you might need to prepare a good meal chez vous. The biggest kicker of all? Prices are actually reasonable! They are, to my great surprise, not at all rapacious, especially in light of the store's relatively remote location, and even downright inexpensive for some sale items. We recently picked up Persian cucumbers for less than $2.50 a package, a 1.5 qt carton of ice cream for less than $5, a large, juicy, well-made rotisserie chicken for somewhere around $10, a huge bunch of kale for less than $3, and a reportedly fantastic beef brisket burrito for around $10. This kitchen knows what it's doing! My sense is that plenty of locals shop here on a regular basis. (People in the neighborhood where we are staying tell us they used to send their then-little kids out by snowmobile for groceries here.) Someone -- I think one of the owners -- was training his young daughter to use the cash register on a recent visit. A great family-owned business, this place. I love it!
