Small kitchenette, toilet separate from wash room, two balconies, and a living room. More space than we needed, but really appreciated it. The room was slightly dated, but we do not mind as long as it is clean (and safe). We only need the room to sleep in. We spend all or our time in the city we are visiting. And especially thank you for having hotel laundry. If you are following, we have to do laundry every week for our extended travels. Ambiance - See above. Perfect location to all the tourist spots, in the middle of both the North and South Marseilles. Modern lobby. Very small cafe. Safe - You need a room key to get into the building after 10pm and to use elevators. Service - 6 stars. The manager here was more than accommodating and welcoming. Even gave us a verbal exit survey to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Price - Less than $150 a night. Owner Comment - Thanks for an affordable well located place to stay. I was extremely hesitant to stray away from booking a typical hotel, as that is what I am used to, but after seeing the state of the Airbnb's in Marseille, I am truly grateful we went with Staycity! Everyone was so kind and welcoming from the very first day, to the very last minute! The small touches of tea in the lobby or lemon water/ croissants. The "good morning, how are you?" And the security at the doors really made us feel so safe and welcome in our home away from home. The bed was a little firm but the pillows were cozy and it was nice to have so much space to spread out after long days of exploring. Singles are 119 Euro and doubles are 119-179 (with terrace) Euro. No lift, but all rooms are on 2 floors. Very nice buffet breakfast. They provide a 1 liter glass bottle you can get still or sparkling water upon request. The hotel is very close to the Roman Arena, where bullfights occur now and the Theatre Antique, a Roman amphitheater now used for multiple events including concerts. The have a takeaway cafeteria (le Comptoir) with Movenpick gelato, pastries, friut, coffee drinks. Several good bistros and restaurants are literally across the rue Laure or just down the street. It's located halfway between the Roman ampitheatre and the Roman theatre in Arles -- ideal location! The room we were in (4) had a balcony that overlooked the Roman theatre -- it's appears to be the only room with a balcony. Given the quaint, 19th century look and feel of the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised by the interior of the room -- air conditioning, modern lighting with switches by the bed to control the room lights, USB charging ports each side of the bed, strong wifi signal, large tub, modern shower and toilet, plenty of hot water, comfortable bed -- it was on a par with most modern hotels in terms of amenities and comfort. There's a 24-hour cafe in the lobby and the night manager is happy to serve you food and drinks any hour of the night. Breakfast is an extra charge and consists of cold cuts, cheese, various breads, fresh orange juice (that you prepare yourself on an electric squeezer), tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. Alternatively, you can forego the breakfast fee and buy what you want from the lobby cafe. The staff were all cheerful, courteous, and helpful. Most spoke passable English so there was never any problem with communication. Some caveats -- there is no long-term parking at the hotel -- we had to unload our luggage near the hotel front door, then go park the car at a city parking garage nearby. It's only about 5 minutes away, so no big deal -- it's just a little inconvenient if you need to access your car while staying in the hotel. Luckily, just about everything worth seeing in Arles is walking distance from the hotel. Also, there's no elevator and the stairways are a little narrow, so pack light and small if possible. A pleasant bonus is that guests get to use the "spa" which is fashioned like a modern rendition of a Roman bath -- a large tub about 5 feet deep that's about 15 feet square filled with water at 90°F with a sitting area that has air bubbles. There's also a steam room, shower, and lounge area with tea and coffee facilities. Guests must make a booking to use it and there's a limit of 12 people at a time. So be sure to pack your swimsuit, even in winter. Bottom line -- Hotel Le Calendal is a superb place to have as your base when sightseeing in Arles.

I stayed here last month as I started my two week journey in France. I picked this hotel due to its…read moreproximity to the Saint Charles train station so all I had to do was walk across the street once I arrived. Upon checking in at the hotel, the staff were very friendly. I was checked in instantly and caught the elevator up to my room. The elevator required you to scan your key card to go up to the room. Once I got to my room, I noticed it was a little outdated with all of the old carpet inside but I loved the view from my room. A downfall was that latch for security was broken, a big no for me. But luckily I had my own security devices to lock the door. Also, this is a non-smoking hotel but some guest decided to smoke on my floor to the point it was seeping strongly into my room. Upon calling the front desk, they handled that immediately. But this is something they should reiterate when guests are checking in. Lastly, they did have a nice breakfast area and was walking distance to all of things like the harbor in Marseille.

We stayed here during our two days in Marseille and found it to be very nice. The free shuttle was helpful, but to get into the city center you have to take a bus, which can be a little pricy. The breakfast and dinner were decent, but the two nights we wound up eating there had the exact same items on the buffet. I would definitely recommend this place as it is new and clean and in very close proximity to the airport.

Room: We booked a junior suite and it was lovely. The room was large and perhaps was once two separate rooms. There were two spacious closets for storage, a nice sized living area, huge bathroom with 2 showers (one large stall shower and one bath/shower combo), and nice bedroom. The bed was extremely comfy with soft linens. Robes and slippers were also provided. Service: Service at the restaurant was very good. I was disappointed with the front desk at check out and management's follow up response. My husband and I had to check out early because we learned late on Friday that we had to attend a memorial service on Sunday (we were scheduled for a Sunday morning check out). Although they refunded the pet fees and hotel taxes, they would not refund the breakfast. They said that I should have purchased a refundable room. This is also the only NH location that charged me for both dogs even though they are very small. Location: The location is very good. The tram stops in front of the hotel. It is near multiple restaurants and is a 10 minute walk from the harbor and a couple of historic neighborhoods. Food: The breakfast buffet is excellent. There are multiple hot and cold options. The pastries offered were great: bread, flan, creme brûlée, a very fancy cake in the shape of a cocoa bean, and coconut cake. Lots of fresh fruit and juice. Good bread selection too. Other: Parking is not directly available at the hotel but 2 blocks away. The entrance that is closer to the hotel is harder to reach with a car but there is a more direct entrance an additional block away. The hotel is pet friendly but has a steep 35 euro per pet fee.
