I've always loved the Goyard print and knew that I would get a better deal in Paris versus in the United States (plus VAT refund is always a nice bonus!). I stood in line about 10 minutes before opening at 10am and was greeted by a friendly sales associate (unfortunately, I didn't get her name) once I walked in. Since Goyard is a very French brand, their sales associates only spoke French and English. I also appreciated that each sales associate helped one customer at a time, versus multiple customers at the same time. There was a wide variety of bags, wallets, and accessories in stock in different colorways. My sales associate was patient with me, answered all of my questions, and brought out different bags for me to try on. I ended up purchasing two bags! Overall, the checkout and VAT process was easy. He explained they do not hold bags for people, and that is of course an acceptable policy, but it's not what he had told us. I would have thought, knowing we were coming and knowing what we wanted, he might have re-checked his stock last night or first thing this morning and contacted us to tell us we might not want to venture over. I got there 15 minutes before the store opened and was maybe the 40th person in line. I was vacationing from California and a friend asked me to buy a purse that was meant to be a special Christmas gift. I was in line for over an hour in 30F weather. I felt a little ridiculous to be in line for a $2500 purse when there are so many better places to be in Paris, but I dearly love the person who asked me for the favor. Naturally, the purse I was supposed to buy was sold out. I got a close look at the products and I don't get it. Everyone around me was so excited about being there. When there are four people came out, the guard would not let the same amount or less of people go in to the store to browse the products. Trying to create a line and consumer interests in front of the store for your products is a bad sales strategy. Most people are tourists in Paris and do not have extra times to waste. We ended up buying two bags at Channel and one at LV across the street. Lastly, I asked those came out of the store empty handed, they told me the store had no inventory for most products. It was mid to late March 2023. The peak tourist season in Paris was at least a month and a half away and yet the wait to have a chance to put down a sizable sum of money for a Goyard product was already an hour long. That was, if you were willing to get out there at 9 am and wait for the store to open at 10. By late morning, the line was 20-25 deep and since the store lets in a party at a time, the wait was easily 90 minutes to two hours. And this is standing on the un-sheltered side walk braving the cold wind and merciless rain. Standing under a blistering sun, I assume, is not much better if at all. When you finally were let into the crammed, rather dark, early 20th century appearing store, you were not expected to browse the products. Truth to be told, few of the popular bags were on display anyway. The polite but rather cold sales associate would ask what specific product you are interested in and you would be well served to have your wrist list ready. Be prepared to have alternatives either in color, size or plan B product as the popular items are frequently "not available" or only come in less desirable colors or sizes. You would be mad if you waited 90 minutes in the rain just to have someone at the store tell you the bag you came all the way to Paris to get is sold out or the color your heart to set on is not in stock. The number one product people seek has always been the Saint Louis tote in either PM or GM size. They are generally available but color is completely unpredictable. So again, have a second or third choice. The Belvedere is hard to find regardless of color as is the Plumet. Wallets and card holder are plentiful. Bellechasse - no. Then there is the price. Goyard has repeatedly hiked up the price of their products like most of their high end counterparts. The Saint Louis PM five years ago was just under 1,000 euro but is now more than 50% higher at 1,550 euro which works out to be around $1,650. Still a bargain compared to the US prices plus the 12.8% tax refund but Uncle Sam may want you to pay import tax which would wipe out much of the refund. At least the new Saint Louis now comes with a free Goyard insert that sells separately for 460 euro. There are ways to make the experience a bit less stressful. Maison Goyard has a second store directly across the street at 352 Rue Saint-Honore. There is still a wait but the line is much shorter. People were afraid to stand in line at the wrong store and decided to just follow the crowd. The store at 352 Rue Saint-Honore functions like they are unrelated to the main store. They will not cross check which store has what product and what color so if you don't see what you want at one location, you may want to check out the other store. Yes. More line. My friend bought a blue Saint Louis GM at 233, a blue PM Belvedere and a blue Croc Universel at 352. Correct. Saint Louis buyers, be sure to get a matching Croc Universel closure device for your tote. This and the free insert or bag organizer set apart the new and the old totes. A even better and more pleasant way to shop Goyard which I suggest as your first option is to visit the Goyard store at Printempt Department Store which is only a couple of subway stops away. It's a store within a store much like Goyard in Barney's New York and now at Bergdorf Goodman where you are welcome to look and feel the product. It has the tote for sure and most small leather goods and small bags although colors remain a crab shoot. By the way, every Louis Vuitton store I went in offered drinks and you sit while discussing your needs with the SA. Forget about that at Goyard. Anyway, have fun shopping. Non EU citizens definitely save more when purchasing luxury items overseas versus the states. When in Paris, I always stop by this store even if my hotel is far away. I dedicated half a day to go shopping. I knew precisely what I wanted at Goyard. Once I walked inside the store, I made a beeline to the counter and told the SA. She was quite taken back because the entire process from me walking inside to waiting for her to assist me and making my purchases took less than 10 minutes. After she showed me my bags, I walked over to the counter with my passport and filled out a form for the VAT refund. I really like how efficient the process is. What do most people go to Paris for? To TREAT YO'SELF. I was feeling myself, and the Paris vibes got to me, so I got my fancy Francy on and decided I was going to buy myself a nice tote bag. It came down to the Goyard St. Louis vs LV Neverfull. Clearly, I went with Goyard. Main reasons for going Goyard (besides being able to say that): - Not basic (everyone and their mother has the LV Neverfull) - It's lighter on its own (I have a problem with bags feeling like they already have stuff in them) - Travels better (takes up basically no space in your luggage) - Bigger fan of the design This location was really close to my Airbnb, so that made it also very easy to get there. When I passed by earlier in my visit around the morning (~11 am), there was a line of about 10 people. The last day of my Paris stay, I stopped by later in the day (~4:30 pm) and there was no line! So you get inside, one thing you notice is the displays of vintage Goyard bags and all the colors they offer the classic print in. Avoid looking like a dumb, like me, and DO NOT TAKE PICTURES. The Goyard "bouncer" will politely tell you to cut that crap out. So you look around, you notice everyone is also wearing white gloves. I knew what I wanted so I made eye contact with one of those white gloved guys for literally 0.000001 seconds, and he beelined it over to me in a jiffy. I knew what I wanted and he grabbed it for me after going in some room. Like clockwork, he asked for my passport. MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR PASSPORT TO THE STORE FOR THE VAT REFUND. Super friendly staff, no LINES ( unlike LV), and attention that matches the amount of money you are about to burn for a piece of hand crafted living art.
