Great for young children and old. Still can't find my way round, older kids love it on dark evenings.

The tour trundles on and the venue reviews keep on coming!…read more I was immediately sceptical when I arrived here, and rightly so. Large brick and stone buildings always struggle to deal with the sound of a band. However with a long soundcheck (we pretty much played the whole set) the problems were dealt with and the sound was fairly good after that. That said, my onstage monitor wedge was so loud it was moving away from me... From an aesthetic perspective, I love this venue. The exposed brickwork and rural surrounding which was in the most beautiful village..very Emmerdale! The hall itself looked like an old Railway shed which had been restored as a gig venue. It is a fairly large gig and I was hoping that the crowd would be of a decent size. My fears were allayed when it started to fill up with middle aged men in Ben Shermans, Desert Boots and cropped hair. The venue also started to fill up with what looked like a younger crowd..I saw countless pairs of "Jam Shoes" and parkas... Very enjoyable to be playing up north when the crowd gave a chant of "Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire"... The crowd were really into it here and in great spirits. A rarity for me, I was asked to sign some autographs at the end of the set and the boys and girls of the audience were very enthusiastic and polite. I did nearly come a cropper when I jumped off the front of the stage to hand out a drumstick (and a kiss) to a young lady... It is a much higher stage than I thought! All of the staff at the venue were first class - they looked after the audience well and treated us in the band brilliantly. So... one of the better venues I have played in this area. I would love to return, either in the crowd or on the stage. Good work Elsecar heritage centre.

I went to see YES MAN with a few friends and it was a pleasent experience. The cinema screen is a resonable size in comparison with the size of the building and the surrond sound system sounds ok and if you want to see a film in Barnsley, I would recommend ParkWay Cinema.

Huge playgym designed for kids up to the age of 7…read more We've visited this playgym a few times now for children's birthday parties and I personally find the place so big and daunting for a 2 year old. There are activities available for all ages, although very small area for under 5's compared to over 5's but the building itself is so big and found it very difficult to watch my child due to this. There were 4 children's parties taking place at one time and children were going with other groups by mistake so got the impression there was too much going on for them too. Quite expensive in comparison with other playgyms in the area but maybe that is to suit the older end of the children.
My 3 year old niece absolutely loves this playgym, it's a massive play area which caters for babies…read moreand toddlers plus older kids. Being the daredevil she is my niece isn't satisfied playing in the relatively small unders 5s play area and wanted to go on the bigger stuff. As she's not quite big enough on her own my sisters and I had to take it in turns to go on with her, 3 times climbing rope netting and huge stairs with a 3 year old is very hard work so we had to work on a rotation system to give each other a rest! I think we had nearly as much fun as she did though. You do have to be careful as the bigger kids are tearing around the place and don't think twice about knocking the smaller ones flying so don't let young ones enter the larger play area on their own.
The Norton is the perfect neighborhood pub. I had lunch there yesterday (fish & chips, of course)…read moreand dinner today (surf & turf). There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating plus take away. The Norton is a Sizzling franchise, but I'm sure its roots go back way before that. Ordering is very easy via a QR code at each table. However, the table numbers are not labeled, so you may have to ask. At dinner, I had the same table as yesterday, so I knew it was table 12. Yesterday's fish and chips were excellent, s the fish was perfectly prepared and the coating was so light. I substituted peas instead of mushy peas, and they were fresh as well. Tonight's surf and turf was mixed, as everything was great except the surf part. I've since looked up "British Scampi" and discovered it is not shrimp. It is "the meat of just one special prawn: the langoustine". As you can tell by the picture, what I thought were tater tot's were the tiny langoustine. My fault. The steak, mushrooms, and onion rings were excellent. I substituted a salad for the chips, at no extra cost, and it was top shelf. I highly recommend The Norton for its very reasonably priced food and authentic neighborhood atmosphere.
Now part of the Sizzler chain, The Norton used to be a Beefeater that had slightly lost its way…read more Now, The Norton specialises in cheap food and reasonably-priced beer. As another reviewer has mentioned, the quality of the food varies. The steaks are very good value for money and a safe bet, but any deviation from these seems to panic the chefs! I've never seen fewer vegetables on a Salmon and Med Veg meal than I have up there. They also have a habit of burning the garlic bread which is incredibly annoying. The servers are reasonable enough when you bring mistakes to their attention, but sometimes there are things that should be picked up on before food leaves the kitchen. The availability of some beers can also be very hit and miss and every time I've been up there, Timmy Taylor's Landlord has been off. Can I suggest that they perhaps increase their order of it? Anyway, you get what you pay for. It might be worth avoiding when there's football on if you're out for a nice meal.

A good selection of beers on offer, including the Ginger Marble Ale, which is what I chose to accompany my roast dinner. The meat was a bit fatty, but the portion size was decent enough and arrived on our table just as our feet were warming up from our walk in the Peak District. However, that pub stands out as a great mansion, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Overall, the drinks are more expensive than you would expect for such an isolated area. Blame it on the tourists, or on the tricky logistics ! The food is good. Our orders were also messed up, as I received a lamb burger with coleslaw, which I didn't want, and it came before the soup we took for starters... The burger lacked some taste, though... The potato mash was very rich and velvety, which suited the beef and ale pie perfectly. The carrot and coriander soup was also a great start to our dinner... The best moment ? Getting the last rays of sunlight in the huge garden, while reading books on one of their round tables.

It is located on a hill so walking up the hill is not a nice thing to do. The whole village consists of 6 or 8 bedroom houses with a shared kitchens, two toilets, a shower and a bathroom. Recently the houses have been refurbished so they look much nicer on the outside, the kitchens have also been refurbished and the have changed the furniture in the bedrooms. There is also a shared laundrette with four washing machines and a iron. There is also a medium sized TV with a DVD player. I didn't like the place very much, it is noisy, and you can hear everything your neighbours are doing.

Had a nice family day out and we decided we would go here…read more We went up to Leeds and then had to catch the Bus 19 which took us up between Temple Newsam house and the golf grounds, we then had to walk about 10 minutes to get to the actual place. Walking up to it you're surrounded by green and then there are a load of tree's that seperate so you can walk through them towards the house and grounds, it was like something out of a postcard. When we actually got to the grounds we were stumped on where to go first! Do we go into Temple Newsam House OR do we head towards their little farm OR do we wonder around their 1500 acres of woodlands, fields etc!? Spoilt for choice We started off with the house itself. Prices for a family tickets (2 adults & up to 3 children) are: Temple Newsam House: £9.50 Home Farm: £8.70 Joint Ticket: £15.50 The house is magnificent! You are asked not to take photo's. This is because of the flash as the light and heat can damage pictures etc, it can cause a chemical reaction. I did take a few pictures, but made sure my flash was OFF as not to damage anything. You have a choice of walking around the house reading bits and bobs, or you can use these handheld blocks where you punch in the number per room and a recording will guide you through the room and explain. There are also children's versions of this. We all got confused by it so we opted out lol. Had a little laugh as there is a picture of a man near the picture gallery and he was a spitting image of my father - didn't take a photo of this. Despite it being so big and perhaps a bit dull for children, our children loved it and were full of questions that we tried to answer. They were excited about going into different rooms and their favourite room was the 'nannys room' where they had modern toys for children to play with. We then headed towards the farm. I will be honest with you, I didn't like the farm as much as I would have normally - perhaps it was because of the weather? I would have liked it to have been a farm where we could feed the animals too because places such as the barns with cows, they only had 1 large bucket of this protien stuff which meant that only the biggest cows had managed to get to it (would YOU try and squeeze inbetween 2 fully grown cows!?) and so the younger smaller ones had no chance - perhaps later in the day they would?? :( . One was even eating the straw on the ground which was covered in 'you know what', so I didn't like that bit. The highlight of the farm was that we saw piglets being born! That was amazing! The grounds are huge! As I've already said, all of this is within 1500 acres of land and they have woodlands you can explore which we didn't have time to get to, so it's deffinately an all day trip or perhaps even 2 days. I would go again, although I wouldn't pay for the farm again.

Our twin room was very well appointed and comfortable although bathroom was small and the single wardrobe was cramped. Overall though we were very satisfied for a one night stay. It was a fairly noisy evening with parties but the worst late night noise came from the pub next door where bottles were thrown into bins into the early hours and shouting from their customers kept us awake. However, this hotel has great atmosphere, a good selection of drinks and an excellent breakfast menu. Would recommend it to anyone although perhaps not those with young children.
