I prefer just to have my haircut without the shampoo. Getting your hair shampooed in public always struck me as a weird fetish. My English was poor at one point when I first came to Canada so I let that slide. I came in to the salon asking for a simple trim and cut that would shape my face better. My stylist Jun tried really hard to understand what I wanted but he just didn't get it, even after I showed him a picture. I left completely unsatisfied and had to go to another salon afterwards. My instinct told me to walk out the place when the manager presented me a pricing menu that was incomprehensible. This salon is insanely expensive given the location, service, quality of products, vibe and design of the space. Their pricing structure is utterly confusing and atypical of how salons operate in North America, and even Japan or France where I've had my hair done many times. I went in for a half head root touch up and came out spending over $100 for this service alone (pre tip) that I know would be less expensive at some of the best salons in the city. They charge for hair color by the grams of hair color and then force you to get a blow dry based on your hair length at an additional cost. Why not just include it all together? Why not let me dry my hair on my own if I don't want this extra service? You present the blow dry on the menu as an additional service and then tell me it's not optional. I also had an add-on service head massage service where they presented me with one price while I was sitting in the chair and then charged me $15 more at check out for a "large" based on my hair length. As far as I can tell a head massage has to do with the scalp and not the length of my hair. This makes no sense and is deceiving. The only redeeming point to this review is the hair colorist Aske who did a decent job. To the manager who accused me of "blackmailing" when I told you I would be leaving you with a bad review AFTER I paid you in full with a tip. That's not how blackmailing works. It's my right as a consumer to warn prospective clients of your unethical pricing system. So yes, I am not "happy" and this is why I'm writing this review. You should take this moment as an opportunity to review your management, customer service protocol and operational tactics. You can see by my Yelp profile I barely ever go out of my way to give bad reviews as I understand how people can have bad days but this one is unavoidable, and I feel it's necessary to warn prospective clients who decide to do the research. I wish I had done so too as I can see from the succession of bad reviews here.
