Upon walking in, you kind of get why. The space is compact, but cozy. You'll find a number of both tried-and-true fan favourites, as well as some rare gems you probably won't find anywhere else. The small bar is usually manned by two people versed in the art of whiskey, but the guys you really want to meet go by the names of Thom and Joel. They not only know their lore, but have a comedic streak that will make you want to stay as much as the drinks. There is also a snug little cocktail bar downstairs if you like your whiskey to be watered down by sweetness and creativity, (I know I do). And, prices are about what you'd expect this deep into Soho - not break-the-bank steep, but fair for what they're providing.

I can't speak for all the Jeroboams shops - I've only ever been to this one, and even then, just once - but I was rather surprised to find that not only did this branch have a fine selection of wines, they also had a great selection of spirits, including a certain Japanese whisky which led me to this shop. Despite the seemingly posh sounding name, and its location in west London, I found prices in this shop more than fair, even for the hard-to-find whisky. Tom, the person manning the shop the day I visited, certainly knows his stuff. He's not just enthusiastic about wine, but also spirits and where you can enjoy them, which is why you can find craft gins, quality tonic water and other kinds of alcohol in addition to what Jeroboams is known for - wine. He's also the guy behind their Twitter feed, which, if you're a fan of good alcohol and happen to live nearby (or even if you don't, I'd encourage you to follow so that you know what special offers and tastings are on, or, in my case, when certain vintages have arrived! It was perhaps not the greatest wine I had but always nice to try. I also highlights the depth of the selection they carry. The South African wines are numerous and a lot that one cannot find in other places so good to explore new areas of South Africa. There is also a very good selection of French wines and interesting stuff from Portugal and Spain. The prices are decent but the 'cheaper' bottles do in general seem to be worse value then when looking at £15 and higher. I was lured into the shop one evening this week by a bottle of rye in the window. -turns out that that was the last rye in house, so I scooped it up. Bourbon was not in short supply, fortunately, so I helped myself to a bottle of Elijah Craig, too. They also carry Buffalo Trace and Woodford. I did not see any Maker's Mark for those of you who love you some Maker's. I would have loved to have seen Blanton's, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm just glad to have found a smattering of good bourbon in this town. SW4, a locally produced gin, was in house as well as Junipero, all the way from foggy San Francisco. They don't, I was told, seem to stock Sipsmith as it seemed to be too costly for them to do so. Bummer. And, as the name would suggest, they do boast quite a lovely selection of single malts. They carry Caol Ila, one of my faves, as well as some of the more usual suspects. -don't get me started on the Asian whiskies. This place is a must-visit destination.
