I booked an hour relaxation massage at the student clinic. It was excellent! Very professional and relaxing! Other than the initial consultation being with two people instead of one, I couldn't tell I was being massaged by a student. I am a student at the Makami College in Edmonton and my experience here has not been good. I was led to believe that the blended program was possible for me to complete while still working my regular job throughout the entire course, but since starting the program the school does not offer diploma mandatory clinic dates that are reasonable for working students. They only offer clinics during the week 4:30-9:00 pm. I feel like if Makami truly cared for their working students they would have a Saturday evening clinic after class available as well as a full day clinic available on Sundays. Other problems I have run into is the extreme disorganization and absolutely none of the staff seem to be on the same page on school protocols. For example I had an unexpected pregnancy. I let the school know as soon as I knew and I had been massaging in class for a month when I went to do a clinic all of a sudden Im told I cannot massage in my first trimester. Considering this is the most expensive massage college out there , my expectations are that staff should all be on the same page of protocols and organized at the very least. Also for how much extra they charge in tuition I have not seen a single reason paying double what other colleges charge is worth it. If your considering getting your massage diploma please don't make the same mistake I did . Save your money and time and pick a better college. read more

Student relaxation massages are fine. But the school should not be having students with only 6 months training doing a deep tissue massage because they ALL suck. With only 6 months they have no idea what actual deep work is & cant even begin to resolve issues. It should be at the very least after 1yr. Also didnt appreciate getting a regular massage after i booked an orthopedic one. Both the call center AND the receptionist messed up the appt. The orthopedic sessions were closed for bookings at the time i booked. I sent an email to supervisor and no response. Some students shouldnt be enrolled at all due to obviously not caring about their own healthcare or fitness, an obvious school money grab. read more

I have Meniers Disease which causes vertigo that sometimes comes on suddenly. After finishing an exam at the school I was experiencing one of those dizzy spells. I have difficulty walking during those times so therefor I fell in the hallway. The next day I received an email saying that I don't need to finish and will be given my diploma anyway. I had a lot left to finish in my second year. So I wouldn't recommend Makami to anyone especially if someone has health issues. I was not drunk when I fell nor was I on any drugs. I was just simply experiencing vertigo. read more

Just graduated my second year and I have had so many issues with this school, extremely disorganized, constantly not following up on things they promised. Completely a money grab, majority of people I graduated with or people I've talked to who have graduated were not pleased with how they've been treated at MaKami. First off I am a student with a learning disability. I explained that to them DAY 1 of going into this school. I said that because I cannot concentrate and need to be taught things a certain way. I need to be put into a different class, while writing exams. All teachers should know that (also with ESL students). First exam I get I am not put into a different room. So I tell explain my situation. And they put me in the tutor lab (which is another joke). As I am writing an exam, they have people bursting in and out of this room talking very loudly, teachers laughing very loud down the hall with the door open. Even someone without a learning disability would have a hard time concentrating. Another time they put me in the HALLWAY!!! With teachers walking by laughing and talking, all because they had no one to supervise while writing an exam. I have failed most of my exams because of this exact problem and have had to be held back to months to finish them. They do let you take re-writes, which is great, but they average out your mark, when I wouldn't have even had to rewrite if they got their shit together in the first place! Secondly, their "teachers", are not teachers. They are massage therapists "teaching". And even though a couple of them are very good, there are some who CANNOT teach a class. They are getting people who have literally just finished the program to teach a class and have no teaching experience what-so-ever. A good amount of people have complained about this because people end up being so unprepared for an exam that they fail. Most people have no idea what is going on in the class and then that gets the teacher frustrated at the student for not being able to understand which is completely unacceptable! Another thing, the tutor lab has lost my assignments and EXAMS (and other people I know have had the same problem), but then they make you re-do the assignment or exam. I have friends who take pictures of their assignments before handing them in so the tutor lab can't come back and say they didn't complete it! Not only that, but there are constantly mistakes on their exams and at times the answer that they say is correct, is actually incorrect so you get it marked wrong. All in all this school is really not good. From the disorganized staff, to the fact that in the beginning of the first month trial, they are very great and treat you very well until they know you are locked in and they push you aside. It's bullshit and a money grab and I couldn't be more upset. I have attended MacEwan, and I realize that no school is perfect, but this school is so less than perfect that it's not even worth it. Also, this school is in an area is in the top floor of capilano mall. They have so little room and waaaaayy too many students, that they have to move half of the second year students to a wing of St. Gabriel's elementary school that is sectioned off. They also lock the doors on you if you are 15 minutes late. You are paying enough money that this should not be happening. There are days where it is impossible to make that time, and you end up being locked out of the class. Stay away from this school! Get your education elsewhere, it is not worth the amount of money. I'm ashamed to say I even went here. The only good thing I can say is that I am almost graduated now as a massage therapist with 3000 hours. read more

I have always carefully planned which educational institution I were to pick to get the best results out of a program for my future. When I went to MaKami College for a tour I was welcomed very nicely by Vladimir and the rest of the MaKami Employees. I felt like everyone else was in the same boat as me and that MaKami College understood me and the rest of their students well. read more

One of the hiring staff is too young, Inexperienced, and extremely too immature to be in her job, why she is employed there is beyond me. She lost a great job applicant and who knows how many more great people? It's her way or the highway entitled Snotty attitude, & the slutty going to the bar outfit is unprofessional. The massages I had there suck, one of them done with gloves?? They were rough & uncomfortable on the skin, and just plain weird. CDI massages kick their butts and are a lot cheaper with the money going to charity. I might take my 1st yr. massage course, but it won't be at Makami. read more

I received a 1-hour masssage last night and the student massage therapist was awesome. The massage was very relaxing and she was very respectful, kind, peaceful, confident and gifted. I had received this complimentary massage for touring the college with my son as a prospective student. My therapist started at MaKami in September and completely loves the training she has received so far and highly recommends my son pursue this career through MaKami. we had an appointment to tour the college, after 10 minutes of waiting the owner I assume came out to say it would be 5 more minutes, ten minutes later we asked the girls at the receptionist desk if someone else could do the 10-15 tour of the place, half an hour later we decided to leave, what was the point of giving us a time when they can't keep it our reschedule another Time no sorry or call next day to apologize and try to setup another tour...they rate a zero from us...too bad because there were several workshops I wanted to attend .guess to be able to post we have to hit at least one star? read more

When I toured the college it seemed wonderful but when I sat with Derek he fed us lies about being an RMT after the first year, saying that there was almost no homework as everything is done in class and that to work in BC you had to have 3000. All of this was not true as i confirmed both the "RMT after the first year" and confirmed with the massage therapy association of BC that 3000 was not a requirement. Finally, i spoke to students and the homework is overwhelming. Then, despite telling Derek I was not able to start the classes in July, he suggested registering for July and once confirmed that I couldn't attend we could just switch to the september class. In the meantime, i had already received my student financing for classes starting in July. I was concerned and Makami said oh thats easy, we just fill out a new application and start date. However, what Makami did was report to Student finance that I had "not attended in July" giving them the impression that i just hadn't showed for class and now there are restrictions on my student finance file making another application difficult or impossible. Also, student aide, for whatever reason(I'm thinking that Derek filled the forms out creatively ) paid Makami almost the entire first years tuition which they keep saying they will be or have returned to student aide; however, its been a month and i confirmed that there has been nothing paid back yet and now i have to appeal the "not attending class" and "withdrawal" that is on my student aide file and i have to pursue the college for the money as it is now my debt. I was told by Makami that my emails are now going to spam to which i responded that it was her choice to direct them there but i cannot afford an outstanding loan for a program that i shouldn't have been registered form. I would never recommend this college as there are too many lies told to draw people in. I'm thinking that registration of people is commission based. read more
