There's only a handful of parking stalls, but no issues parking. It looks deceitfully small inside upon first impressions in the waiting area, but treatment rooms are decently sized. They also have a shopping shelf that comprises of mostly aromatherapy and bath salts. Staff are extraordinarily friendly and accommodating with scheduling. Appointments can also be conveniently made online, calling in, in person, or if you have a regular therapist, you can directly email some to check for openings. Gift cards are available and if the service on the gift card doesn't tickle your fancy, you can use the value of it towards a different service. They also answer emails pretty darn quickly too. I found the acupuncturist to be quite thorough about health history taking. She even prodded me on things I've forgotten to mention about myself. It was a very relaxing experience and they also offered electric stimulation on needles to enhance the service. The knowledge about this service & the benefits & treatment goals were very helpful and much appreciated. I would definitely return here for acupuncture and other massage services as well! read more

If you're tempted to contact The Self Centre through the Yelp message app, reconsider. After messaging and responses from the owner I was instructed to provide my information to an additional email. Said email replied in a rude and unprofessional fashion and I have chosen to take my business elsewhere. The staff may be lovely in person, but that is not the impression I got from these conversations, good luck! UPDATE: what I would have initially considered just an off day and bad communication via yelp, the personal emails are much more insulting. Now that this business has my personal email address I have been bombarded with emails from the owner in regards to the review I've posted. This being my first negative review I can see why people don't post them. The reply to my review was enough to make me reconsider this business and my review, the responses that are not in a public forum led me to decide my post was warranted and highly accurate. Setting the emails to spam and expecting more vengefulness from this business in the future now that they have all of my information including home address. I've been visiting the Self Centre for a while now. All of the massages have been amazing! I play tons of sports, and nothings better than getting the knots and sore muscles worked on. Inside is nice and relaxing. My Latest visit was with Ali. Ali was perfect! she worked out my issues. plus she's easy to talk to. I'm booked in again at the end of this month and I can't wait! Unprofessional and disappointing service. I have been going to the Self Centre for over 7 years. I always tip well, and would like to consider myself a loyal customer. I recently made a booking and drove over an hour to get to the Whitemud Crossing location, only to be told (after calling and texting one of their admin because the door to the clinic was locked) that my booking was cancelled. I was told the therapist EMAILED me, so I checked, and I had received an email at 8:30am - an hour before my appointment when I was already on the road. Not even the decency of a phone call. I could have booked somewhere closer to my home but prefer to give my business to companies I am loyal to (especially since Covid). Extremely frustrated with this, and will not waste my time returning here. read more

Massages are okay and they do direct billing BUT they have problem with customer service and processing / recording payments. They normally ask some details to put on your file in order to save time next appointment, but something goes wrong and you have to give the same details over and over again. I gave them my new credit card number twice, but they still have in the file an old one even if they told me that they did update properly. Once I got asked to pay again a difference of just 5$ that my insurance didn't cover. I did and had receipt of that, but on next appointment I got asked to pay it again because made same mistake in the system ------ A good business could avoid it and leave you the benefit of the doubt since my wife and I were returning customers. I decided to use less the service. Last time I did a massage, I realized my employer terminated my coverage from benefits before last pay stub. So SAME DAY I received the notification, I offered to pay with my credit card the full amount by phone, I did and received the receipt, BUT after a while I got another email to ask me to pay (again?). ------- A good business check all the records and details, before asking to charge my credit card again. I went here almost a month ago and the massage was amazing! I've had a really intense, pulled and aggrivated muscles under my right shoulder blade for years, but not anymore! The work done to the muscle was intense! I felt like crud the next day as I had a lot of knots to be worked out ( this was my first massage ever, so a lot of toxins were built up) but I was forewarned about this effect, which was greatly appreciated. The masseuse was very friendly and understanding and we had some good laughs. I am bit ashamed that I can not remember his name right now though. They direct bill, which is a big perk... just remember a Dr's note if that is what your provider requires. read more

Just had my second visit here and I'm really happy I went. I'm a vet tech so I get pretty sore from lifting heavy dogs all day... in some circumstances, proper lifting form isn't really possible. As a result, I've wound up with a pretty sore back and shoulders. This time I saw Kayla and she was really great at working out those knots. She was really professional and offered some great advice. I wouldn't opt for less than an hour if you want to get worked over... 30min might be enough for a problem spot. They alsodirect bill my Blue Cross which saves me the hassle of submitting receipts. read more

I have been visiting Self Center for about 6 months now. I am pretty much a regular for deep tissue massages. I have a lot of neck and upper back pain so we have been concentrating on those areas. Ali is my therapist, but when she was away, Roxanne also worked with me. These ladies are very strong! I usually require a lot of pressure to help relieve the knots and stress and Ali and Roxanne are both amazing. The place is very non-conspicuous in a shopping plaza, but the rooms are clean and nice. Ali plays relaxing music or nature sounds so that does help me de-stress. I highly recommend! read more

My first massage in Edmonton. I'm glad i found the Self Centre. Getting an appointment was a breeze - you can call or book it online. Registration was straightforward and fuss free - the recep took details of my insurance card and credit card info as back up (in case insurance doesnt work out) and I was also asked to fill in a questionnaire for the RMT, to indicate any areas I would like to focus on and the mount of pressure I like. The massage was great! I went in with some tensed and tight muscles on the shoulders and left a brand new person! :) I really like that the place is basic and clean (I saw them changing out the sheets and towels after each client) and that they do direct billing for most insurers which is a plus. i put my back out over the long weekend and was in absolute agony and needed muscle relaxants to get by. when i finally got an appt for thurs at a local clinic, they called to cancel just a few hours before i was due to go in. i was in so much pain (even with muscle relaxants) that i started calling any acupunturist with a decent review and that wasn't too far a drive so i could manage to get there. fortunately, the self centre was midway between work and home and i reached a live person. caleb (i think that was his name) answered my call and was super sympathetic with my need to see someone that day. he said they had 1 booking available within a couple of hours and i took it. he carefully went over what to expect, etc and sent me an email with directions and parking info etc. since i wouldn't be able to travel far or walk far given the pain. lance was my acupunturist. he greeted me and asked me to fill out the paperwork. such a gentle man. he was kind and sympathetic and was able to pinpoint the problem almost immediately. he talked me through the entire treatment (i'd done a lot of acupunture before so it was not new to me) and tried really hard to make me as comfortable as possible despite the pain. and while the treatment was incredibly painful (the needles are never painful - it's always the nerves and what they are doing that make it so) when i was able to get up, it felt a bit better. he did want me to come in again as he did explain the treatment and how long it might take. and he did advise what to do over the next few days and how to modify some behaviour in order to rest appropriately. over the next couple of days, it was much more bearable without having to take any muscle relaxants. so much better! from a pain scale of a 7-8 to easily a 2-3. i do have an appt to go see him again but what he did in one session - i am so grateful for. i've not had a regular acupuncturist in edmonton since i moved here about 10 years ago - i did have one in vancouver for years and years. since being in edmonton, i've tried different practitioners with varying degrees of success. but now that i've found lance - he's the one i'll always ask for. he was so amazing and calm and reassuring. and his treatment worked. pretty much right away. i don't tend to trust practitioners right away - i tend to take a wait and see approach. but i can't say enough for what he's done so far and his care and treatment. he was matter of fact but kind and gentle the entire way through. i can't recommend him enough. read more

I love coming here. Brittany Pretty is amazing has perfect pressure and I love her relaxing music (hit songs but violin version so much better then the ocean sounds that keep freezing and skipping). Laura Acott is pretty good as well she does do some cupping with her massage which is a bit different, but still good. I highly recommend coming here it's small but they get the job done. I only gave it 4 stars because sometimes I come and they unlock the front door exactly when your appointment starts then by the time they check you in its already 10 mins into massage time and they stop exactly on time and don't give you that 10 mins you paid for. read more

First time using the Self Center. Easy to find. Able to find parking. Got to the appointment 10 min early as they suggested but when I got there a sign was up stating it was closed and will reopen at 3:45. Had to stand outside and wait. Good thing it was a beautiful day today. Once I got in, my first impression was small entry way but welcoming staff and quiet environment. Got the paperwork done. Once inside the massage room, very spacious, calming music playing, lighting to compliment mood and a nice scent in the air. The massage bed was heated, which is nice to climb into. The masseuse was wonderful. I needed deep tissue and gave me enough deep pressure to release my tense muscles and worked on the muscles that needed the attention. The best was the hot towels they placed after the back was done and neck . What a wonderful simple thing to make you feel even more relaxed. First experience with the hot towel and totally recommend the self center just for that extra service. Will definitely go back. read more

I was in excruciating back pain, and I went to this centre because they were "award-winning" and seemed to be really great. I booked for a Therapeutic Massage, and the lady I booked with did no assessment, and no home care. The pain was relieved for a few hours, but the next day I was in horrible pain again. (My sister just started school for massage, so she told me what I should expect for a therapeutic massage, and the lady didn't do anything like she should have) Thankfully I found a different massage therapist who is AMAZING. After one treatment almost all of my pain was completely gone, and didn't come back. Maybe I just got a bad therapist, but I will not go here again if that's the kind of staff they employ. read more

I got a massage here about a month ago, and I have an appointment in the next week or so to return again! The location is fairly convenient, and you can tell that they care about their clients. My masseuse was beyond wonderful! She even went over our time together to show me some exercises I could do to stretch out the muscles that were bugging me. I have never felt so relaxed. I was in a car accident and suffered injury to my neck. As such, I was able to receive massage therapy that was directly paid to the Self Centre. I am a single parent, and my only option for attending regular sessions was to bring my daughter. I occupied her with a movie. The last visit, the therapist wrote that while the staff found my daughter to be "adorable", she had left marker stains on a chair (that were, I was told, washable). The reason my daughter was colouring is because her movie "turned off"- which the therapist admits to doing. The therapist said that my daughter should have "asked the therapist to help", rather than the therapist admitting that she was at fault for turning off the DVD. I was given this information via a "do not reply" email. I am appalled at such unprofessional behaviour. As a business that intends to promote healing and well-being, the email I received was callus and impersonal. read more
