They were all healthy, bright eyed, active and well socialized. Their enclosures were spacious, very clean, well maintained, species appropriate and provided enrichment. All encounters were careful to put animal and human safety first. I've worked in vetmed/animal rescue for 30 years so seeing animals well cared for and accustomed to their handlers gave me confidence Darby Farms is a place I can support. Now to the tour itself: Do it. Book it right now. You get SO MUCH for such a reasonable pric. We got two hours of personal interactions, petting and feeding, with over 30 species! Our guide Ryan was incredibly informative and knowledgeable, even taught us hardcore animal nerds some new facts we didn't know. He was skilled at handling even the squirmiest of creatures gently. It's absolutely magical to be able to touch and connect with animals I've only seen from behind glass in zoos. Thank you to Darby Acres for providing this unforgettable experience

We love zoos, but this was so much more…read morethan just staring at a bunch of animals behind bars - instead we had multiple opportunities to get up close, touch and feed the animals. In addition, some free range friends walked along with us humans on the tour and literally wanted to eat out of our hands. Our guides, Maddie and Shane, were fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable about the animals, and excellent at making sure everyone in the fairly sizable tour group had an opportunity to see or feed each animal they introduced. We bought the "Kit and Kaboodle" package which was so incredibly worth it! Some zoos allow you a "personal encounter" with one species, or by holding up an animal and letting you pet it,... but in the encounter room, Maddie and Shane spent an hour or more introducing us to at least 10 animals, all different species, in very interactive ways. We held armadillos, hand wrestled a mongoose, let a tiny monkey jump from shoulder to shoulder between us eating Fruit Loops, fed and high-fived otters, and so much more. I truly can't say enough about how happy we are that we included Darby Safari in our first ever trip to Charlotte!

The animals are absolutely adorable and so friendly. They're not the biggest huggers haha, but they get super excited when you bring out the food. Enough food is included in the price so you'll have plenty to share with them. The alpacas and the farm are really well taken care of. Honestly, an hour is the perfect amount of time for this activity, you get to enjoy it fully without it feeling too long. I'd wear leggings with long socks, since there are insects in the grass. Overall, it was such a calming and therapeutic experience. Definitely not just for kids, adults will love it just as much!

The wife (I forgot her name but please charge it to my head and not my heart) was sooo knowledgeable and sooo friendly. I asked a ton of questions because as a native New Yorker, this was quite an unforgettable experience. Pull out those phones and put them on portrait mode folks!! You can even hug some of the alpacas!! They have a small jungle gym/ swing area for the kids and lots of cool games such as bean bag and hammocks. This Mommy and daughter date couldn't have went any better and was worth my PTO day. They have some picnic tables on the property but we went to MLK park 20 mins away and ate by the water. They have a store on the property that has the cutest items for sale for reasonable prices.

From the moment we started, Sam was warm, kind, and incredibly attentive. She made us feel completely at ease, welcomed every single question, and thoughtfully adjusted the pace to suit our group so everyone could fully enjoy the experience. Her depth of knowledge was amazing--we learned so much about the plants, trees, and wildlife of the Smoky Mountains, as well as fascinating insights into how the Cherokee people once lived in harmony with this beautiful land. The scenery itself was absolutely breathtaking, but what made it even more special was the way Sam brought it all to life with her stories and passion. As a lovely surprise, she even prepared a delicious snack for us along with homemade herbal tea, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch. We are so grateful we chose this tour and had Sam as our guide. It was meaningful, educational, and deeply enjoyable from start to finish. We would absolutely book another tour with her and this company and highly recommend it to anyone of any age looking for a truly special experience in the Smokies.

It was absolutely worth every penny, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a memorable outdoor experience.
