Thanks to yelp I found Makeup by Jessie. I had her bookmarked for months for my brother's upcoming wedding. After browsing through her portfolio, and that of her staff, I felt confident I wouldn't look like a clown for the wedding...and thankfully I was right! All my communication with Jessie was via email. I booked 3 months in advance and when that day came, it couldn't have gone any smoother. Jessie sent me Osi and she was very professional. She was running a little late but made sure to call and let me know. She set everything up quite fast and in literally 30 minutes I was done! She listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly the look I envisioned but even better. I debated the false lashes but let me tell you they made a tremendous difference- especially with the pictures!!! I heard about Jessie through a friend and booked the first of many make up sessions with her for my friends wedding on 5/19/07. She was super friendly and put me at ease right away. She asked me what I was going to wear to my event and proceeded to give me a consultation basaed on the look I was trying to acheive and what she thought would look best. Jessie and Jenise were absolutely amazing!! I'm so truly happy I chose Jessie to do my make up for my wedding. I'm extremely picky and even though she was highly recommended by so many friends, I was still hesitant. I have tried so many make up artists in the past including celebrity make up artists for different events and I was never happy with the results. I was really afraid about not finding the right make up artist for my wedding. I decided to do a trial with Jessie and I loved her from the moment I met her. I absolutely loved her personality. She is so sweet, genuine, fun, friendly and she was extremely kind and patient with all my requests and always very professional. She was extremely accommodating and truly understood what I wanted for my special day and I was so blown away by the incredible job she did with my make up. I should start off by saying that, I know a lot about makeup and I have worked as a makeup artist in the past. Jessie was horrible in my opinion. I think she does the same exact look on everyone and doesn't know how to veer away from that look because she's become so comfortable creating that look. I explained to her exactly what I wanted, in the terms you would expect any makeup artist to understand and she completely disregarded what I had asked of her. Everyone got some variation of a smokey eye with ridiculous lashes and way to much blush. She has no sense of how to use bronzer or highlighter. She's not very talented on filing brows either. I was EXTREMELY disappointed because she charged way too much for her lack of expertise. After 1 hour the concealer under my eyes was caking, the black from my smokey eye was smudging and I could barely look at myself because I was unrecognizable. I had to fix my makeup by myself after she applied the makeup. She has not kept up with the trends in makeup at all and doesn't seem to educate herself on new techniques in makeup. She's like an old Cuban hairdresser that dyes everyone's hair red and gives them the same pixie cut. Her work is just AWFUL. I'm sorry to be so harsh it it was my true experience. I will never suggest anyone ask her to do their makeup for a wedding. If you're looking for a true makeup artist with amazing skills that gives you what you want look up Your Face by Grace or Cristina Pilo. They are TRUE makeup artists and won't let you down on your special day. read more
