PLEASANTLY SURPRISED
Summary - clean, friendly, busy and the meal was faultless.
They have a fabulous chef at the Maldon Hotel who can turn an old traditional meal into a pure delight. Feeling tired, I chose the specials for the day - corned beef and rice pudding. Often in the Wimmera and Mallee, one finds pub kitchens churn out Corned Beef which is tough, stringy and bland. Therefore, as I waited for my meal, I was not expecting anything too inspiring. One mouthful revealed that I was about to consume Corned Beef as it SHOULD be cooked. It was absolutely delicious. The local organic meat was tender and had been given a full flavour by being cooked to a very good traditional recipe - one my grandmother would be proud of... The mashed potatoes were smooth and plentiful and rather than cabbage, were served with al-dente steamed vegetables. The rice pudding included marinated raisins and really met the description of being "comfort food". Yummo!
