We're traveling for a few days and decided to stop by here to see how this border separation really is like. Definitely an interesting experience, lots of people even locals hanging out and taking pictures. Police are nearby and eventually as the sun was setting they started telling people to go back up the walkways, not sure if it's due to covid or because it's close to the border. We even got our Ids checked because they thought we might have drugs or something but it was fine. Overall definitely recommended plenty of places to eat and grab coffee.

Nice beach boardwalk area and it's pretty clean. Parking on the street is not that great so we just pay for a little parking lot across the street (100 pesos). Just walk across the street to the stairs that lead down to the boardwalk. Stop at the calimax or walmart on the way to use the ATM and get pesos. Calimax has cheaper ATM charges. Both have way better exchange rates then the exchange places. Banks have protections to help avoid fraud but we have never had an issue. If not, everyone will still give you the prices in dollars. But know that your gonna pay more for sure. Quick rough estimate peso conversion: Drop the last digit and cut in half- 300 pesos. Drop the last digit is 30. Cut in half is $15 ish. We normally skip the bars and restaurants on the street, even with the bad ass views of the ocean. Tried one, the aquachilles sucked. Straight raw shrimp with zero chile. Seemed like they didn't let the shrimp cook in lemon juice at all. Who makes aquachilles with no serranos or chilies? We prefer to eat seafood off the grills by the beach. It's cooked right in front of you and they put whatever hot sauce you want on it. There are always several grills going, so pick the one you like. Even the guys walking around with brochetas (skewers) of shrimp and octopus have everything you need. You can haggle with everyone based on the size of the octopus. There are fruit stands, churro stands, elote stands, and fresh made potato chip stands. We ate all of it before, too bad I didn't get pics. The potatoes chip guys put the potatoes on a skewer and use this thing to cut it into a spiral. Then they deep fry it to order and dressed it up how u want. Disclaimer: We have never been here at night. This review is all morning and afternoon experiences.

Initially, this may seem like a simple beach, but it has it's charms. Take a stroll on the board walk and along the way you'll encounter an eclectic range of mural paintings, coffee and pizza shops, seafood, sushi, a fancy 7-Eleven with a spiral staircase near an amphitheater, random giant, diseased-looking rats (he was very gross), some friendly stray dogs, etc. All very hip establishments overlooking the sea. Our views should have consisted of islands and Imperial Beach, but on a gloomy day we could only make out the beginnings of a wall separating the Mexican and U.S. side. Ominous... The street vendors are what caught by eye especially the churro lady. For 20 MXN, she filled a bag to the brim with churrros. There were also vendors selling mangos with chili, tostilocos, among other things like soccer balls. The activity level was definitely more sullen when we went around an awkward time so most businesses were closed until lunchtime around 2pm. Still seemed like a pretty cool area, regardless.

I came to this beach twice during my stay in TJ. The first time was at night, so we crashed someone's bonfire since it was getting chilly LOL. They were nice and even let us sit on their giant blanket to keep warm. There are no pits, so everyone just makes a hole and adds wood for the fire. My friend even helped fetch more wood to burn since the couple we met had no more left. While we were relaxing, we met a family with a mini ATV and they let me ride it! The second time I came here was on our last day. This time, we got to walk along the boardwalk. I like that there are lots of vendors selling food- there were churros, tostilocos, hot dogs, etc. When you reach the end of the beach, there is a fence separating the US side from Mexico. There were some locals playing music on one end of the boardwalk and a stage with a band towards the middle. Only women were dancing, so I joined them. As I was about to leave, someone asked me to dance with him, so it was a little more fun to have a partner. I was looking for an area to wash up afterwards, but couldn't find any outdoor shower stations until later on. There was a long line to wash your feet, so I didn't even bother LOL.

Nice day to take a walk down the boardwalk at playas de tijuana! We found parking on the street. My husband got a cup of elote (corn) and I got some shrimp on a stick. 6 deliciously seasoned shrimp for 50 pesos. We sat down at the outdoor amphitheatre and watched Mexican impressionist sing on stage. It's great for people watching. And the stalls remind me is Venice Beach. There are plenty of cafes and a few bars where you can get a coffee or a beer and stare into the beautiful abyss that is the Pacific Ocean.

There is also a small playground in the middle, which makes this place a great spot for families. My friend's daughter wanted wings, so we ordered some from District. We decided to get food Mercado Norte instead and ordered the huarache de carne asada, flautas, 2 gorditas, and 3 horchatas. I was wondering why it took a long time to get our drinks, but since they ran out of ice, we ended up only get one horchata and had to ask for a refund before we left. The wings were drenched in sauce and were pretty tasty. I only tried the buffalo version, but she also got terriyaki? I liked how Mercado Norte presented our food- it looked pretty and was decorated nicely. Everything we ordered was delicious and very filling. The horchata tasted great as well- too bad we couldn't get more though!

They absolutely delivery with Uber Eats. We dined in. I got an individual pizza and small salad from Gambino's. The dough was handmade and delicious! My boyfriend got the Combo 1 at La Hot-dogueria. The staff were helpful, the fries were great, and he enjoyed the hot dog. He also got a large sushi roll from Ryokan which he said was a high quality tuna. The bar, Tepoztecatl, might have been our favorite stop. It has a good selection of beer and a really sweet woman bartender. We didn't try every restaurant today but I am sure we will. 5 stars for El Jardín.

But the most important reason to visit is to experience the humanity of it all, realize Mexico is our friend and ally and just over that wall. It's sad how militarized the wall is on our side - we can't get anywhere near it while on the Mexico side they are enjoying life and walking right up to it. It really helps give you perspective!

SW most here, southernmost in Key West, NE most at Quoddy Head Maine and NW most at Neah Bay Washington. There should be some effort required to reach the extreme of anything and Border Field fits the bill. The walk out to the wall and border is a mile ++ of pavement, horse-trails, deep-soft sand and then a beach-walk to the border. Expect the border patrol to be interested in your activities, but also say hi and thank these guys for protecting our border and protecting US citizens. Plenty of folks on the Mexico-side taking pictures of me / taking pictures of them. The Friendship area and most of the state-park seems neglected of maintenance and significantly overgrown. Regardless - this is a beautiful corner of the world and well worth the extra effort to visit.

Through the years, however, damage on the slide with a danger sign for kids not to slide on has occurred with miscreants tagging up the Nestor Neighborhood Park sign. The portapottie is locked and unusable. Litter does not make it into the numerous trash cans available, and the well stocked pet plastic bags for biological pet waste isn't responsibly used by some owners walking their dog! What a disappointment! It has such a great potential of being a nice secluded secretly tucked away park with lush green grass and nice trees with picnic tables, barbecue grills, and trash cans at each table to help keep it clean if everyone would just be responsible in doing their part to clean up after themselves and their pets. I gave it an extra star because I did feel safe walking around there with a group of teens practicing their quincenera dance routine as well as a little kiddie organized soccer league playing in the back field. We can all help to keep this park clean, unlittered and well maintained by keeping pride and value to our surroundings. This is a public place for EVERYONE to enjoy! Why destroy it or claim it as yours with unwarranted unsolicited not even graffiti art or "tagging."
