They told me I could walk outside at 3 am and no one would do anything to me. Food at the tavern restaurant was good, not amazing but good. My friends who had spa treatments said they were great. The whole estate is so charming. No elevators tho! Uneven walkways throughout. Would go back and would recommend!

Ettington Park is by far the greatest hotel I have ever had…read morethe pleasure of visiting. From the moment you approach the building, you know that you are in the presence of greatness. The reception area is warm and inviting with a large fire in the corner. Sitting in the bar area to the right of the reception reminded me of the Fawlty Towers bar! Very cosy and the drinks range is excellent. I loved the bar area. The rooms are hard to find and thank goodness for the great staff on hand to help at a moments notice! The lift is a must because the hotel is very up and down and therefore not perfect for those with mobility problems. However, when arriving at the room, it was perfect with an amazing view of the gardens. I cannot fault the hotel or the restaurant (please see my other review of the Oak Room which is the in house restaurant).

Here are my ratings: Location (5 Stars) - Right downtown and an easy walk around High street. Very dog friendly and very nice front desk staff. Bar (5 Stars) - Gorgeous inside bar area, which we saw both from ground level and via the upper catwalk to our room. Service was friendly and engaging. Patio (5 Stars) - Steller outdoor patio on a very nice day. We relaxed with our drinks and never wanted this experience to end. Dinner (5 Stars) - As fine a dining experience as we had during our week in the Cotswolds. We took dinner in a very nice dining room with comfortable seating and excellent meal choices. Breakfast (5 Stars). Breakfast was in the dining room and featured good selection, nice dining room, timely service, strong coffee, good portions, and tasty choices. You can't do much better than that. Accommodation (4 Stars). One thing we found about historic UK Inns is that climbing up the stairs with luggage is required. Yes, they'll help you, but we're starting to get a little old for this. The room was a big small, but we really appreciated having both a bedroom and sitting room, which accommodated our different sleep schedules.

Wasn't too sure what to expect from a hotel restaurant, usually poor food with a massive markup…read more.. The food here was okay if a little confused/fussy! There are a few bonbydazzler's on the menu; melon with griddled pineapple, coconut and basil anyone? What were they thinking there- like the worst ready, steady, cook! mystery bag ever, poor Ainsley would be spinning in his chef's retirement home. We were sent out an amuse bouché of fried risotto balls which had so little flavour they just offered an unpleasant texture. Not very amusing at all, served with a cliche of balsamic vinegar. Then we were delivered olives and bread with olive oil and balsamic, meh... I started with the Ham Hock, piccalilli and sourdough. It tasted pretty good but was presented like a raw burger with a squashed slug across the plate. Far too much meat, the balance was well off, although it seemed to be the only starter to come without a coating of balsamic. The cheddar and onion tart was apparently nice but would improve with some onion chutney not drenched in the damn balsamic! Main course was apparently coq au vin. Not as I have ever had it before though. Only one bit of the chicken was cooked in wine the other a cheffy bone in supreme of chicken that was pan fried. There were a few chunks of gammon, some enoki mushrooms some undercooked shallots, leathery leeks and passable mash. This dish was largely free of balsamic but had its trendy cousin pea shoots liberally sprinkled over. This bastardised coq au vin wasn't really to my liking- had it all been cooked together in the traditional style it would have been great, unfortunately the chef wasted his time and effort cooking everything separately. Other meals largely met with similar criticisms, the salmon came with turned vegetables which looked totally naff! I opted for the local cheese board which was okay. I can't say how local the cheeses were as there was no information so I'll just take their word for it. After all Birmingham is well known for its dairy produce... It was served with celery, chutney and walnut bread, call me old fashioned but I'll take a Carr's water biscuit every time thank you! It was balsamic free however- I can only assume they had used it all in the previous courses. Other desserts were similarly hit or miss, the fruit selection even had star fruit on it which I assumed had become extinct as I haven't seen any since the 90's. The other main gripe was it took two and a half hours from sitting down to finishing dessert which was ridiculous. I understand that we were a table of eight but it was hardly busy, if the kitchen stopped buggering around with everything it would have taken half the time! The waitresses were very pleasant, if a little disorganised. The meal would have been much improved if they simplified the meals and stopped trying to impress with outdated fads and additions. I would happily pay a premium for a quality meal but this really wasn't! On a random point the light fittings were the worst I have ever seen; a chandelier surrounded by a semi transparent tube of plastic with the colouring of the bottom of a CD. If they employed an interior designer I hope their ideas book was sealed and buried, the designer sent to Broadmoor hospital for the criminally insane.

Scampi very good, and superb "signature" chips. You get a little motorway noise, but nothing to worry about. Ceiling fans in bedrooms are a bonus in summer. Not needed early Movember, though! :-)

We hired the whole hotel for 24 hours and these were a great 24 hours. The food served in the duration were great we also had people stop the night before the weding and the day and night after and the service was still top notch. The award winning food is great and a good mixture of drinks are available. Lovely leisure centre and spa and beautiful topiary gardens and views. Highly recomended either as a wedding venue, hotel, restaurant even to pop in for a cup of tea and cake! Lovely, welcoming reception staff. The hotel has a warm welcoming feeling and is very historical inside expecially the wooden pannelling and the beautiful room 4 with the hidden priest hole! We will definitly be celebrating our wedding anniversaries here!

11/3/18 - Booked for 5pm…read more Food Standards' Rating - 5/5. Very busy, but some tables available - 5 of us. Got there a about 25 minutes early, but a place to sit around near the bar area. Moments later shown to our table. I sat at the end and it was close to the entrance to the kitchen. Starters came out quickly. Only 3 people having starters. I had the chicken livers en croute. The sauce was very moreish... Reasonable portion. For main: I had Rare Sirloin of Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, Red Wine Gravy. Really thick slice of beef. Wonderful taste. Came with both roast and new potatoes. The latter were overcooked for me (microwaved?) For sweet: Sticky Toffee Pudding, Caramel Sauce & a scoop of Vanilla Ice-cream. Loved it. The service was OK given how busy they were, but I had to catch the eye of the owner when he passed by to order more drinks. I'll put the following conversation down to being busy: ME: "Please can I order more drinks when you have a moment?" REPLY: "I'm serving that table at the moment." ME: " I did say, when you had a moment." There was confusion at the end of the meal. There was something to the effect that we only had the table for 3 hours. So at nearly 7pm we had only been there two hours. One of waiting staff came me to tell me that I had to move. I said I wanted to order more drinks. Their loss I thought, bring me the bill. Another person brought me the bill, and I said I thought I had another hour before I needed to vacate the table. The owner appeared and I explained to him, and he said that there had been some confusion I didn't need to move. So he screwed up the bill and said what would I like. I ordered a double malt, which it turned out he took off the bill for the confusion. Now my only other niggle... They a grand array of gins, but only one brandy (Martell - yeuk!). Plus only two malt whiskies. No dessert wine. I get the feeling, near the bar area, that the locals look down on the out of village people. That's not the inn's fault. Does give a bit of uneasy feeling. Tanworth-In-Arden is the where Nick Drake spent most of his life, and we'd always stop of at The Bell and have a G& T on the green after paying homage to the folk revival singer and songwriter. Over the years Nick Drake's popularity has grown and so have the ambitions of the most recent owners of The Bell. The Bell has now been transformed from a regular, snug country pub into a finely furnished place and is now being sold to the high society of Warwickshire and visitors from beyond as a 'Hotel, Restaurant and B & B accommodation' business that's convenient to Selfridges, The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and The Cotswolds. Even though I like more traditional fixtures and fittings in a country pub, (and I DO miss the bar billiard table), who am I to tell the owner how to run his business? The boy done good. He's used his entrepreneurial mind to turn the pub around and to offer an experience to those visiting Tanworth. And even if I'm unlikely to eat there, the inescapable fact is that him keeping the pub running successfully means that I can enjoy my post-Nick Drake memorial G&Ts on the green in the Saturday sun.

It must be people who've never stayed in actual 5 star hotels. The grounds are maybe 4 star. The room is 2 star. The service is 1 star. We had to fill out our breakfast choices on a list like you'd do in a 3 or 4 star restaurant the day before. And as if that's not bad enough, the food is rationed. You get one mushroom and one sausage on your plate. They do not have veggies to add to an omelette. They can't make boiled eggs. If you happen to forget to fill out the breakfast list the day before, they have no flexibility. You just won't eat, because the food is rationed out precisely as to how many guests will eat. The number of eggs is exact etc. The same women who cook also clean, so they are visibly irritated when you show up without submitting your choices the night before because they have to hurry to clean the rooms. They only serve breakfast in a 1.5 hour window because they have to rush to go and start cleaning the guest rooms. We asked for extra towels and extra water in the room. It never happened. The bath soap was not refilled. The cleaning ladies left their cleaning agents in our bathroom twice. I can understand this happening once but twice is horrendous. I have never seen this happen before in a 5 star hotel. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels and this is DEFINITELY NOWHERE near 5 stars. It is 3 star at the most! They are clearly trying to make a huge profit by economizing their supplies, food and staff!!! And the outside of the door is unkempt. The room is tired, the bed is tiny--IT IS NOT KING SIZE. IT IS QUEEN. The bed sheets are very low quality, the room is dusty and smells stale and the entire room is 2 star. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE BAD REVIEWS: THEY ARE THE TRUTH!!!

We…read moreloved that the artist Miller owned it and his friend John Singer Sargent spent a lot of time here. Other notables were Claude Monet, Oscar Wilde, and William Morris. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with nice touches like a great selection of teas and shortbread cookies. Super comfortable bed as well. The grounds are huge and we played croquets. Great breakfast in a beautifully paneled room, too.
