Over the years I've been a client of Sandra Maria Spratt both when she operated from her original setting in Thomas street & her new flashy set up on Church street. As her surroundings grew greater I personally (I am entitled to my own opinion) think the care & attention towards my animals lessened. I have spoke to many pet owners in the area who have had negative experiences, I wish I'd listened more intently. I wish I'd boycotted. (like a few people I've spoken to have) I felt restricted by a lack of transport but now after my most recent encounter I wish I'd spent day and night on the road with my cat carrier by my side to get my darling cat to a competent veterinarian so he could receive the attention he most truly deserved. As I stated in my review that is my regret - a regret, I swear I will carry with me to my grave. I strongly urge anyone considering putting a companion pet into the care of this hospital to reconsider. I will regret everyday trusting them with my cat, most notably Sandra Spratt. I was restricted by the fact that I had no transport & this is the only small animal clinic in the locality. A fact she proudly boasts about on the hospital's Facebook account, she capitalises from it. I watched as he deteriorated further & further under her watch, all the while being told he was in great form & wolfing down his food. He was skin & bone, anemic & dying when she discharged him on Friday evening with the instruction to "see how he gets on over the weekend." He was worse than ever and I will never forgive myself for leaving him there! I was forced to take him to another vet the following day 'cause I couldn't stand to see him suffer. The vet who examined him said if left without help he wouldn't survive the next 24 hrs. I wish with every fibre of my being that I had sought after another vet and removed him from her 'care'. Perhaps if I had done that he may still be alive. Don't allow yourself to fall into the same position as me, I'm utterly heartbroken. Take my advice, if you love your pet you'll want them to have the best care possible, she is NOT the best. This veterinary hospital is an abomination! P.S. I had to leave one star for the purpose of posting this review, it would have been none if that option was open to me.

This is a great veterinary practice. We've used…read moreSpratts/Mitchelstown Veterinary Hospital, dealing mostly with Sandra, since we first took on a pet some years back. We started big- with a pony. We received excellent and sound advice and care for this highly strung gelding. When he broke a bone in his foot last year, the livery yard advised us to have him put down. Sandra researched and sought out other options and got expert care from a specialist vet and a really good farrier. The pony recovered. Because Sandra didn't treat him, she didn't receive any fee - just our gratitude. With our two smaller animals, a sheep dog and cat, we receive sound and appropriate advice and care. Gentle reminders are texted for vaccines. We got great advice on how best to manage a rescued sheepdog now based in a town garden rather than the freedom of an open farm. He had never walked to a lead and he is very strong. The practical tips on how to look after him never get paid for but are willingly given to us. During the summer, and nowhere near home, he got attacked by another dog. He received a nasty gash over his eye. Far from home and in a panic, we contact Mitchelstown Veterinary, showed the wound and got instruction on how to care for it until we could find a vet in the locality. This is great service and it is always willingly given. When our poor cat took a turn that needed investigation, Sandra took him in at the clinic, assessed him and realised that he had serious gum disease and needed his teeth out. Our now gummy boy made a great recovery and hasn't looked back. She checked with us on running blood tests to identify the root cause - she warned us that each test costs and that she may not find anything. We asked her to go ahead with her hunch and she identified the underlying issue - and didn't break the bank! He is fine now and we know what to watch out for.

On Tuesday 13 January 2026 my two dogs ate sausages while on a walk in Ballincollig. These sausages had been laced with poison. We got to Sunbeam after a diversion to another vet when they both became very distressed, the vet on dudty did manage to stabilise my two for the onward journey to Sunbeam For that I am thankful but the communication and empathy from the head vet there was dreadful! Sunbeam had the night team ready and waiting for us and they successfully kept my dogs alive that night and over the next 8 days. My dogs are now home but would not be so if it wasn't for the professionalism, experience and hard work by all the team at Sunbeam Northpoint who went above and beyond to keep my dogs alive and enable them to survive this vicious poisoning. It was very touch and go for the first 5 days with only a cautiously optimistic being mentioned on day 6. The day and night teams updated me regularly, and I really appreciated those calls every morning and late at night. As Lady and Earl, improved it was evident on my daily visits to see them that from the reception staff to the nursing and veterinary staff, the entire team were so invested in their care. Earl and Lady, being Weimaraners can be standoffish with people but my dogs became very attached to all the team at Sunbeam as witnessed by a recent return visit when they rushed in the door, tails wagging to see who was on !! Earl and Lady have told me in confidence that Sunbeam has " the best humans ever" on site. This review is to thank the wonderful people at Sunbeam not only for their veterinary knowledge but for their compassion, kindness and empathetic communication. If you are a new pet owner, this is the place in Cork to bring your pet for excellent veterinary care served up with kindness and professionalism.

All records are computerised and reminders are issued via email. They have good overall offers on treatment packages and also liaise with your insurers.
