Stopped in on our way to Spruce Grove from PG. (wildfire road closure) way nicer inside than out. Parking lot is a bit of a mess. Asked if we could just get wonton rather than buffet as we just wanted a little snack. Giant bowl of wonton incoming. There must have been a dozen wonton in each bowl. It was a dissatisfied dining experience. There was no Western style food offer in the very limited selection of Chinese food. No beef, no macaroni and cheese, no mashed potatoes, no pasta just greasy vermicelli noodles, it really changed from a actually buffet that offered both Asian and Western food. Pop or milk was included, ice cream also. Cost over 20.00 to just eat .This place use to be packed full of people and families. So dissatisfied. Never going to patron this establishment again. The newest incarnation of the Mama Panda in Grande Prairie is a colossal failure. I had never heard good things about the old version of this restaurant but was intrigued to see if the new ownership had righted the ship. If this is better than it was, then the old place must have been like a night out at Terminus (Yea that was a Walking Dead reference) So before you even get 5 feet in the door, they have you rang up and ask for you to pay...and the debit prompts you for a tip! On what planet would a restaurant prompt you to tip 8 seconds from walking in. It's absurd. So no tip from me. You would think a Chinese buffet would have a pretty wide selection of Chinese food...not ol Mama Panda. You can get a couple different types of chow mein, some deep fried wontons, sweet and sour pork (unfortunately you have to kind of mix the sauce into the pork as the sweet and sour sauce is just plunked down in the middle of the tray) and a couple other not too appetizing option. You want Mash potatoes, fried chicken, chilli, fries, spaghetti with meat sauce, and disgusting beef sausages....you'll be right at home. I tried the fried chicken and it was actually no too bad but pretty greasy. There are plenty of dessert options at the Panda, and the two types of cake I tried were a little dry to say the least. So... We tried the infamous mama panda last night. It's infamously terrible in most people's minds. Hmmm where to start. They require you to pay first and ask for a tip at the register... When you walk in you kinda have to guess where everything is after we found the cups and found an area of clean forks (the one cup of forks had a bunch of granola spilled into them) and actually a lot of the surfaces were a little dirty, I didn't pry into it as I didn't want to ruin my appetite. Spilt food won't kill you. So you pour your own drinks and get your own food and utensils. (Lol why do they ask for a tip at the beginning) So on to the food Noodles were alright, mixed veges were actually delicious, fish was blah, Chinese flat noodles were all cooked stuck together in clumps, the battered imitation crab was oily but alright, sushi looked sub par, I didn't try it, chicken wings were Delicious! Pork chops were good, fried chicken was dry, beef stew (in my boyfriends words tasted like dog food) it wasn't thaaaat bad, spring rolls were VERY oily, sweet and sour chicken was fresh and tasty. Soft serve Ice cream was delicious chocolate or vanilla but no option to uses twist... The ginger ale was running out of syrup so tasted like club soda, my dr pepper was good enough. Don't get me started on the general population that was frequenting the restaurant either. Looked like welfare bums and family's with loud children. (Didn't mind the kids that much) All in all It is NOT WORTH the price. It's overpriced like all the restaurants in this city ughhhh It should be a 6.99 lunch buffet and 10.99 dinner not the 16$ that they charge. Everywhere I read everyone says well its cheap and you get what you pay for.... Are they crazy??? It's overpriced but the ONLY Chinese dinner buffet they have in town that I know of. The whole restaurant has changed. (Well it looks the same, but the quality has improved dramatically!) great staff, and delicious hot food that is constantly being changed out to keep the freshness! Will be returning! read more

After not a bad Re-opening 2 Months ago. They are now back to serving Extremely Bad Food. I spoke with the Manager and all she could say is that it is Hard to find good Help. Chicken Wings were over cooked and tasted like dirty burnt oil, Chop Suey is Mainly green cabbage (no Bok choy or Suey choy)overcooked. Ginger Beef & S&S Pork was Gelatinous, Fried Rice bland,BBQ pork dish tasted like sour meat, Squid Dish was extremely Fishy and Nasty, Roast Beef was severely overcooked and tough, Lumpy cold tasteless Gravy and its a mix! Hamburger steaks (or patties is more like it) are frozen preformed & were dried out and taste like eating cardboard. Don't know what they do to the fries but they destroyed them too awful! Soups well don't even try for they are bad & tastelss.Wonton Soup is full of cabbage and terrible tasting Wontons, broth is like warm dish water. Chicken Soup they put Elbow Macaroni in it and let it cook in the soup, this too was like water but had a hard time shaking it off of the spoon. This was our 3rd bad Meal since the Re-opening And now we know that No Care Quality or Consistency goes into the food. And the cleanliness is not so Great either anymore had to go to 3 tables last night to find one that was reasonably clean and had Napkins. We do no recommend and we will not return!! read more

Food is typical cheap buffet crap, but the won ton soup is to die for! The soft ice cream machine is a great touch! service SUCKS...they are not nice people! You walk in, and payment is demanded before eating - INCLUDING TIP??. Tip - really? They don't even bring water to the table or drinks....I have never tipped ahead of time before - and will never. They are doing themselves a disservice that way - I always tip at least 20% in a restaurant, and if they had provided any type of service, they would have gotten a tip at the end....very weird...anyway - not a bad place if you are desperate and in a hurry adn don't care about the taste or flavour of your food. read more

The food is not bad if there was food. Do Not go to Momma Panda's later than 7:15 pm. We were there the other Saturday evening around 7:15 because our grandson wanted Chinese. We paid our 45.00 dollars (2 adults and a 7 year old) they went to dish up. There we 5 empty food trays in the Chinese section and 2 in the normal buffet. When asking could we get the trays filled we were told they don't fill them close to 8 o'clock if they are empty because they close at nine. I believe in not wasting food but why not tell the people when they are pay that they are almost out of Chinese or give them a discount. But neither was done no apology or nothing. Service was atrocious, the prices are always navigated around! Sunday early bird is CLEARLY PRINTED but yet they claim nope it Sunday brunch....at 3:30 in the afternoon. Gimme a break. I'll never enter that Chinese rip off joint EVER AGAIN. read more
