I had been wanting to try this Vietnamese vegetarian spot for a while. Anything with "Mama" in the name just feels comforting, so it was already on my list. It's mostly a takeout place with just a couple of tables inside, so it's simple and casual. One thing that stood out right away is the large variety of vegetarian versions of classic Vietnamese dishes on the menu. I ordered the lemongrass tofu salad rolls and they were delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and really satisfying. I personally would have liked a little more spice, but that's just my preference. I'd definitely order them again and look forward to trying more from the menu next time. read more

I'm not a vegetarian, but I love eating tofu! Not entirely sure, but this place looks family run and is more of a take-out place. I got the mushroom tofu blocks, char siu beancurd and also their vegetarian roast duck. The mushroom tofu blocks contains very finely diced mushroom (probably shitake) and vermicelli. The mushroom enhances the soy flavour of the tofu. The vermicelli give the otherwise homogeneous texture some variety. They fried these tofu blocks in very fresh oil as it has a light colour exterior. This is my favourite out of the 3 varieties I ordered. The char siu beancurd, had a chewy texture. Flavour-wise, the BBQ sauce/marinade tasted great, but you will soon realize it is quite salty / there is a significant amount of MSG. The vegetarian duck was definitely a surprise. It was sold as a log, without any description of what is inside. When I got home and cut it up, I was surprised to find a tofu sandwhich (with assorted mushrooms as filling) and it was wrapped in fried beancurd sheets. It was definitely a bit messy to eat, with the roll falling apart. But I do like their invention! Mama's Tofu has a variety of vegetarian and Vietnamese dishes that are super delicious and flavourful. If you don't want to get their sweet or savoury dishes, you can buy their great fried white tofu ($1/pc, $4/5pcs, $5.75/8pcs) to add to one of your own dishes! I found this all vegan place by accident a couple of years ago, and have been coming regularly ever since. Despite the fact there are only a few tables (and of course, take out only currently with COVID-19), I fell madly in love with their house special "Mama's Pho" (the #1 on the menu). It is without a doubt one of my all time most delicious favourite meals. A huge nice and warm portion of the most delicious textured rice noodles, bathing in delicious fragrant broth, topped with crunchy white fungus, a fantastic array of tofu with sliced veggie "beef" and mouthwatering crispy "chicken" strips. And all the pho selections come with a brimming side plate of fresh crisp beansprouts, a sprig of Thai basil, culantro leaves, and a hot chilli pepper to add. Even though this meal is more than filling (and all very inexpensive), it's hard not to leave without a selection from their constantly refilled hot table including amazing sausage-like beancurd sheet rolls, to-die-for beancurd sheet bbq "cutlets", tantalizing "shrimp" the size of drumsticks in delicious red sauce, a variety of tofus, noodles, and spring rolls. My only regret is they seem to have stopped making their own absolutely delicious black chilli sauce condiment. When I first tried it, it was spicy but not "blow-your-head-off" and had a sort of smoky taste to it. It was addictive. So tasty! Unfortunately no debit cards accepted, but still highly recommended. I can't believe I lived in the area for 4 years and only discovered it a month before we moved out. Regardless, we came here about 10 occasions upon our discovering this. It deserves more than 5 stars because the flavour just tasted so good. My favourites were the lemongrass tofu, mixed tofu, bean curd rolls, drumsticks and shrimp tofu. The only downside is that I've came on a few occasions where they ran out on a lot of the foods prior to closing so I was thoroughly disappointed. Seriously a hidden gem in North York! This place is a small Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant/takeout/counter. I walked by it a few times and didn't think much of it but always wanted to try. My boyfriend and I finally decided to take a try at it and we ordered off the menu on the wall. I ordered the bun bo hue,and he ordered the bun rieu. Both noodle dishes were spot on and you really would not think the whole dish is vegetarian. I have no clue what they use to substitute the pork and other meat but it is darn delicious. I know vegetarian mock meat, a lot of it is soy based. I wanted to ask the lady that worked there, but never got to it. Another thing about both of their noodle dishes was, I felt hungry after an hour! (It's super light food) I decided to also grab some of the banh xu xe, these green soap-like pillow looking cakes that have mung bean filling and a tapioca exterior. Think of it as a chewy, glutinous/jelly-ish like dessert. It's a little hard to explain...so just take one and try for yourself! I think it was 4 for 2 dollars...but anyways it was cheap! The service is nothing but friendly which makes me always want to come back. I work in the area so coming by for lunch breaks are frequent. They offer a variety of different tofus. They are a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant while they have their already cooked meals in the front for you to order, there is also a menu where they'll freshly cook it for you to either dine in or take out. The banh gio is good. I always come by for that especially for just $2. Sadly they ran out yesterday :( I ended up getting spring rolls (4 for $1) two different types of tofu on a bed of rice and sour soup on the side! The noodles and the tofu duck are excellent choices. The tofu duck is just as tasty as a meat substitute, and is very close in taste and texture. dropped by for my first time today and bought between 6 to 8 containers....for then normal for a couple of people but it all looked so good that I had to try as many different pieces as I could. it was all amazing and I can't wait until I am able to return for more. My wife, who found the place, was just as pleased, if not more than me with the quality and taste. The girl behind the counter was very helpful in guiding me and helping me make selections. So delish and amazing value! The dishes are so similar to the meat version but much healthier as it's vegetarian. Love the variety and the prices are good. I love this place. I stumbled upon it by accident as I was shopping at King's. I was going to try Pho Bo TO but when yelped Mama's, I knew it was a safer bet(I'm picky because I know how to cook). When asked for recommendations, I was told bun bo hue and pho are best. So I went ahead with bun bo hue. I also got suckered into having their 4 spring rolls for $1. They were so crispy and yummy. I got excited to have the spicy beef soup. It was great however I was hoping it'd be better than Saigon Lotus. Lol. But at $8, it wasn't a lost of value. This is such a cool little place in a part of town you wouldn't necessarily frequently visit. Great little restaurant with some excellent and unique menu options. There's not a ton of space but I imagine most people just order for takeout anyway. I think the place is run by a family and their friends, and they're all very kind. This is a vietnamese vegan restaurant ran by a family. My mom has really gotten into the tofu scene lately, she will usually get a box of their plain white tofu every week. They are very consistent in their tofu quality. I'm not a huge tofu person in general, but their very nice and helpful cashier/ waitress girl, Jenny recommended me getting their mixed sweet and spicy sauté tofu and it was absolutely to die for! The flavouring is great, one of the first items that truly made tofu an eyeopener for me. It goes great on rice, and even a green salad surprisingly! Jenny is so helpful in explaining to me any questions that I have about their ingredients. Its also always lovely having a quick chat with her! I always manage to run into her, as she always works on Saturdays. She sometimes even gives me a couple extra pieces! Quick tip, be nice to her and she'll definitely hook you up! That's what you call good customer service! After you finish your meal, definitely try one of their vietnamese desserts. One of the absolute favourites is Che Chuoi, also known as a vietnamese banana che/pudding. An absolute pallet cleanser after a full meal. The prices are great too with the majority of the items being under $10, especially for a vegan place in toronto, which can often be quite expensive.
