Bún riêu - rice vermicelli in a clear tomato broth with bean sprouts, imitation meats, and tofu.
    Jennifer H.

Food: My parents enjoy the food from here, especially, the vegetarian bún riêu and the bún bò Huế. As mentioned by other patrons here, the dishes are fragrant and flavourful. I like the number of toppings included in each noodle dish. Service & atmosphere: We mainly come here for take-out. Pricing: Great value for the portion size you are getting, each noodle dish is between $7-8.

Mama's Tofu has a variety of vegetarian and Vietnamese dishes that are super delicious and flavourful. If you don't want to get their sweet or savoury dishes, you can buy their great fried white tofu ($1/pc, $4/5pcs, $5.75/8pcs) to add to one of your own dishes! I recommend their spring rolls, tofu (both white and with mushroom), and shrimp tofu. Haven't tried the rest yet but will the next time I return!

I found this all vegan place by accident a couple of years ago, and have been coming regularly ever since. Despite the fact there are only a few tables (and of course, take out only currently with COVID-19), I fell madly in love with their house special "Mama's Pho" (the #1 on the menu). It is without a doubt one of my all time most delicious favourite meals. A huge nice and warm portion of the most delicious textured rice noodles, bathing in delicious fragrant broth, topped with crunchy white fungus, a fantastic array of tofu with sliced veggie "beef" and mouthwatering crispy "chicken" strips. And all the pho selections come with a brimming side plate of fresh crisp beansprouts, a sprig of Thai basil, culantro leaves, and a hot chilli pepper to add. Even though this meal is more than filling (and all very inexpensive), it's hard not to leave without a selection from their constantly refilled hot table including amazing sausage-like beancurd sheet rolls, to-die-for beancurd sheet bbq "cutlets", tantalizing "shrimp" the size of drumsticks in delicious red sauce, a variety of tofus, noodles, and spring rolls. My only regret is they seem to have stopped making their own absolutely delicious black chilli sauce condiment. When I first tried it, it was spicy but not "blow-your-head-off" and had a sort of smoky taste to it. It was addictive. So tasty! Unfortunately no debit cards accepted, but still highly recommended. You'll be coming back to Mama's Tofu.

Tried the following items below. Would definitely buy them again within a month. 1. 4/5 Mock duck (tofu stuffed with mushrooms and wrapped in bean curd sheet then pan fried) accompanied with sweetened soy sauce dip 2. 4.5/5 Shrimp tofu (rolled bean curd sheets in a mild tomatoey sweet & sour sauce ($2.50 each or $4.50 for 2) 3. 5/5 chicken tofu (like Vietnamese lemongrass chicken ($2.50 each or $4.50 for 2) 4. 3.5/5 Bitter gourd stuffed with extra firm tofu in a sweet & salty sauce 5. Che chuoi - Vietnamese dessert of bananas, cassava, tapioca in various forms in a sweetened coconut milk ($2.50 each) 6. Pandan flavoured Agar agar jelly with beautiful flowers (individual portions $4.50 each)

omg stumbled into this place while checking for vegetarian options .. i wasn't disappointed al all . the ladies were so helpful and there is a small seating area. It can get busy specially during closing time. we order bun bo hue. small plates of lemongrass tofu and sauteed tofu its was so good and so flavourful. So willing to come back to try more food. They have vietnamese desserts in small containers it seemed to be flying off their shelves.

Seriously a hidden gem in North York! This place is a small Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant/takeout/counter. I walked by it a few times and didn't think much of it but always wanted to try. My boyfriend and I finally decided to take a try at it and we ordered off the menu on the wall. I ordered the bun bo hue,and he ordered the bun rieu. Both noodle dishes were spot on and you really would not think the whole dish is vegetarian. I have no clue what they use to substitute the pork and other meat but it is darn delicious. I know vegetarian mock meat, a lot of it is soy based. I wanted to ask the lady that worked there, but never got to it. Another thing about both of their noodle dishes was, I felt hungry after an hour! (It's super light food) I decided to also grab some of the banh xu xe, these green soap-like pillow looking cakes that have mung bean filling and a tapioca exterior. Think of it as a chewy, glutinous/jelly-ish like dessert. It's a little hard to explain...so just take one and try for yourself! I think it was 4 for 2 dollars...but anyways it was cheap! I highly recommend any vegetarians out there to give this place a shot. It's worth the trip. Oh and remember! As most Vietnamese restaurants are, it's cash only!

The service is nothing but friendly which makes me always want to come back. I work in the area so coming by for lunch breaks are frequent. They offer a variety of different tofus. They are a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant while they have their already cooked meals in the front for you to order, there is also a menu where they'll freshly cook it for you to either dine in or take out. The banh gio is good. I always come by for that especially for just $2. Sadly they ran out yesterday :( I ended up getting spring rolls (4 for $1) two different types of tofu on a bed of rice and sour soup on the side! She always hooks it up, and the food is good I highly recommended mamas tofu

Food was excellent and service was accommodating. I had beef rib pho and complimentary warm tea. The sauce to go with the beef rib was quite good. I got the rest of the pho to go, as it was a huge serving. It was a bit of a challenge trying to put the contents of the huge bowl into the takeout containers and I imagine other people have this same issue. Will definitely be back. Next time I'd like to try their banh xeo and com sườn bì chả.

They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

I tried to finish the broth because it was so good. I would have given that first bowl 4 stars! Today was terrible! It just felt like a super water-downed broth that I didn't want to drink. Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to. It was disappointing for a bowl of $21 + tax noodle that was just pretty bland tonight even though it looked the part.... Sigh 2 stars today but couldn't average it out to 3 because now I remembered the spring rolls from the first visit were soggy Yes they are friendly but don't know if it's a place you should come before 7pm to catch the good broth?

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle.
