One of the most documented cases of a haunting in American history, most people have heard the story of the Bell Witch. From 1817 to 1821, a man named John Bell and his family were harassed by a mysterious and invisible spirit now known as the Bell Witch. According to the legend, the witch had the ability to speak, shapeshift, and be in multiple places at once. Former president Andrew Jackson was quoted as saying "I had rather face the entire British Army than to spend another night with the Bell Witch" after he and some of his troops spent a night at the Bell's farm. The tour is good, the area and history draw you in. I felt sadness, and history, energy lingering. There are books, movies, songs about this family, and scientific research. A great and unique cave experience in Bowling Green. We…read morerecently took the underground boat tour at Lost River Cave in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and it was a very cool and unique adventure! This is Kentucky's only underground boat tour, and we were lucky to visit right after the river had lowered enough to reopen following flooding. (When the water is high, the cave becomes submerged, so timing is everything.) Our tour guide, Bri, was fantastic. She was funny, engaging, and an incredibly skilled boat driver. She kept the group entertained with corny but hilarious jokes while sharing the rich history of the cave, from its days as a Native American hunting ground and Civil War campground to its time as a hideout. It was even a 1930s nightclub which was being used as a wedding venue when we visited. She navigated us as far back into the cave as possible, pointing out beautiful and interesting rock formations along the way. The tour was about 45-minutes and included a guided walk to the cave entrance with 3 stops before you board the boat. Be aware that it involves a steep walk down (and back up) and requires bending over low in the boat with your torso flat toward the seat when the water is high as you first aneter and leave the cave. This makes the ride difficult or impossible for those with mobility impairments. Despite the physical aspects, I thought the experience was truly unique and peaceful as you glide through the cool, dark cave. I highly recommend this for anyone who is interested in unique cave experiences or anyone who enjoys a blend of nature, history, and corny jokes.

He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

The sites seen along the way were lovely and some only accessible by boat. Passing under the bridges and by nature was made more fun knowing their history, we also saw the effects of the recent flood. We didn't see the distillery, but that might have been a different tour, different season or a result of the flood, but we got to see the singing bridge, which we were told would be deconstructed in time. We had a great time aboard the Kentucky River Boat and would return. Be sure to tip your tour guide as ours added to the experience!

Facilities are nice but a good majority(if not all of them?) of the interactive museum features were 'not functioning' so just wander and read all the details and stories posted along the walls. It's crazy that the place was a tourist attraction way back in the day. You'd have to plan for being on the roads for probably days to get here. Tour was cool. Very pretty. Out ranger was super personable and seemed to love his job so that's nice. Glad we decided to drop by and check it out on our way back from Chattanooga.

I tried booking online thru Eventbrite but all tours that weekend were fully booked. I decided to give it a shot and called them. As many other curious visitors of Waverly Hills we were in search of history, architecture and the paranormal. TB was widespread in the area, resulting in a waiting list to stay at the sanatorium. Despite its name, Waverly Hills was not a mental hospital; a sanatorium is any institution that provides treatment and convalescence for chronic illnesses. Our tour guide was a member of the Historical Society. The experience included a guided tour where we were lead, at least partially, across all 5 floors and we also had the chance to look down the body chute. Waverly Hills has a reputation as one of the most haunted places in America and has been featured on ghost hunting shows as "Ghost Hunters," "Ghost Adventures," "Paranormal Lockdown," and "Buzzfeed Unsolved." There were some 30 of us in the tour... the historical stories shared with us were interesting and cool but I did not feel any of the following: full grabs, see shadows, apparitions, or shadow people, feel permanent residents walking up to people, taps, temp changes-cold spots, or hotspots, heard screams, footsteps nor door slamming. Too many people on our tour but I can't complain because we were just lucky to get in as extras. The haunted house had a decent amount of scare actors and the overall decoration and atmosphere were great. They provide food and drinks for purchase after, as well as a small gift shop. Notice: Bathrooms are accessible AFTER the haunted house. Until you reach the exit, there are port-a-potties available before you enter the building.
