Heck, it's even their church motto, "no perfect people allowed". Though we started at the South campus location, we've been coming to the Buda location more regularly this Summer after having their worship team bring us to tears on multiple Sundays. Israel (the keyboardist) needs more opportunities to sing-- HE IS AMAZING, voice of an angel!!! I'm personally drawn to sermons that pair Scripture with practical, everyday applications and personal stories, and their pastors deliver every single time. From my last review, the setup of service hasn't changed-- still uncomfortable with the makeshift, bouncy floor. As for the loud buzzers? It's the summer, so the kids are out! However, I'm expecting them to return once school starts...which will have us relocating back to the South campus.

You'll see a sign that says if you're a first time guest, to turn your hazard lights on. From there, the team will lead you to front-row parking and will escort you to the first-time guest booth. We were warmly welcomed and received a welcome gift--which, interestingly, was a book by the pastor... I've received beautiful mugs and tumblers from other churches as first time gifts, but to each their own. We attended the 10:30 AM service (second service of the day), and were surprised with how packed The Connection Church service was. The program of service flows perfectly, 2-3 worship songs, and church updates followed by the sermon wrapped up in an hour. For those seeking communion for the day, they have it laid to the side as optional. Parents with children can drop off their kids during service in Connection Kidz. If your child needs you, their number will light up on the monitors to the side of the church. While I enjoyed the experience, it can be very intense for some. For new guests, they follow up by sending you an invite for a special dinner with the pastor and his family via mail and email.

While we already have a church home, we enjoy visiting other churches in the community from time to…read moretime. We decided to attend The Stone to shake things up. The worship was incredible with worship leader, Jessie, leading the congregation. When service started, they started with a child dedication of families and their children on the stage before asking the church to come forward and extend their arms in prayer and song. Being 1) new to the church and 2) Socially anxious-- I found myself a little uncomfortable, but at the same time, I thought it was beautiful. Seeing parents cry in awe of their church joining in worship and prayer for your little one was a sight to see. The Austin Stone leans more towards reading Scripture verses and focusing on its meaning. Personally, I'm drawn to sermons that pair Scripture with practical, daily applications and personal stories, so I found myself guilty of struggling to pay attention and staying awake. The seating is comfortable, with extra cushiony chairs, however, seats are inline with each other, so it gets difficult/irritating to see if someone say 6'0 is sitting in front of someone who is 5'0.... NOTE: Since The Austin Stone is located down south in Menchaca, expect lots of young families (inc infants and toddlers) and adults under 45.

I had to leave before the eucharist of Easter eve.....definitely a disappointment. I expected a longer service but that was quite lengthy. The father was incredible. Fluent in Texan and Spanglish. Kept a lighter atmosphere. The deacons remind me of my grandfather. Candle lighting outside was definitely different and FUN! Great for families, friends, and Austinites. I'll be attending regularly.

I've been going to St. Ignatius for ages, and though priests come and go (they're usually assigned,…read morelike service members), the current ones are particularly awesome. It makes such a huge difference to have a priest you can really relate to. Father Bill, one of the younger priests in town, is fantastic, and I love Father Mike too. They trade off for daily mass (7:30 a.m. and 12:05, usually in the side chapel). I used to cringe at the idea of going to church every day, but it sets such a positive, uplifting tone that really gets you off on the right foot. My overall stress levels decrease substantially when I make that half hour effort. I'm not a "joiner" at all, but there is a very active church community here with all sorts of activities and groups. It's great for families, and lately, I've noticed a ton of people in their 20s and 30s at mass. The 5 p.m. mass on Sunday is always packed - probably because of Father Bill, honestly. I've attended several churches in Austin over the years, and though this isn't very convenient to where we live, it's my favorite.

Decided to go to midnight Christmas mass at St. Martin de Porres for the first time. I have a special bond and love for St. Martin de Porres, the patron saint of Social Justice, interracial marriages, ethical vegetarian and healer of people and animals, but for some reason, had never gone to this church, probably because I kind of avoid dripping springs and highway 12 because people are so impatient if you are looking for an address on a busy road and I don't want to get run over or bullied by people in menacing big trucks. Anyway, the church is small and built more like a home than a church. The priest seemed kind and tried to turn the homily into a sunday school lesson trying to get the crowd to participate, which I liked. To be honest, however, I am so very very disappointed with changes in the mass. Just what the Catholic Church needed - to alienate more people. I grew up with the vatican II mass and loved that everyone knew the words and participated freely and with gusto. It is something that has made the church, even the Catholic church, with all of its many many many faults, home. The new Roman hierarchy has made sure that the people can no longer participate freely., making much of the mass in an incomprehensible Latin and adding ridiculous language and $20 words to common prayers. St. Martin of Porres, defender of the poor, would surely disapprove of disenfranchising the people like this. Shame on them. Shame also on the Catholic Church for fighting for shortening the statute of limitations on molestation claims so that people harmed by evil priests can not get justice or peace. Kudos to the priest who said Christmas eve mass for bringing up issues of helping the poor and charity. He seemed like a kind man. Not sure if I will go back though. I believe that it is ok to challenge your church. My 12 years of Catholic school taught me to be engaged and not to be complacent. Therefore I recommend a blog for all of you who are fed up.
