I lost my tattoo cherry at this long established & well respected studio & have been back since…read more My first piece, the ever predictable female choice of a tramp stamp, was done by one the studios guests artists and although I was reasonably happy with the result the artist wasn't very forthcoming despite me asking for some input in relation to the basic idea I had. The lines are very clean & the work is admired but I was left wanting more. My second trip to the studio was pretty different. I was lucky enough to have an idea that sparked the owners (Louis Malloy) interest which meant I now have a great tattoo & something that's a little different. The shading & the line work in my black and grey shoulder piece is fab, and the speed & lightness of touch with which LM works is pretty impressive. B e prepared though, fools aren't suffered gladly & you need to have a clear idea of what you want before you contact the guys here, especially if you want LM to do the work. Would I go back? Yeah, if I can be patient enough to wait for a reply to my email & actually get an appointment. Would I recommend the studio? Definitely, if your prepare to wait for a reply to your email, ha ha ha!! In all seriousness my Mum has since been tattooed here, as has one of my friends.

He first tattooed me in 1997 whilst he was serving his time working for another local artist,and since then nobody else has been allowed near my body with ink filled needles or piercing implements of doom.... His apprentice Abi is pretty damn talented too,and the lucky woman has a tattoo by world reknown artist Paul Booth on her hand!!! The actual studio itself is warm and welcoming and seriously friendly.Rob being the type of artist who likes a challenge,he is happiest when he can get his teeth into a bit of custom work. I basically gave him the letters ZOMBI and my forearm and said come up with something. He did,and pretty soon I will have a lovely Zombi tatt to show people who probably have no interest in my arm at all : ) A word of warning though,Rob is a busy man,you generally have to make an appointment to get a tattoo from him,Abi on the other hand, being the apprentice often has more free/spare time. That is how you can generally tell how good a Tattooist is,if you can walk right in off the street and get a tatt done then they are doing something wrong,a good Tattooist is usually booked up for a few months at least (Cancelations not withstanding). You can't beat a good Tattoo,and not many Artists can beat Border Rose......

James was on the desk and although all of the artists were fully booked for that day took my number and said he would see what he could do. Lo and behold a few hours later I got a call, jumped in the car and got my birthday tattoo done by James. I love the vibe in Border Rose, even if you are not a personal friend, you soon feel like one. It's always spotlessly clean, professional and a fun place to hang out whilst your other half gets some pain delivered! Go get tattooed there, I dare ya!

After complaining to the man who did them MIKE FRANKUM went bk to hopefully fix the issues was told he'd txt in a week to try finish everything up. Got zero txt. Customer finally given up. Proper let down. Not only did MIKE cross a line between customer n employee but then tried to make customer lie to her family. By the way at the time the customer was sufferering a severe episode in mental health n MIKE saw this as a green light to take advantage. Customer even paid a bit extra cause they felt guilty that MIKE did a bad job on a tattoo he was paid over the odds for cause they wer so desperate to just get finished n felt bad that working on them meant he'd b loosing money. Plz do your homework before getting work done here. CUSTOMER previously had 5 other tattoos done here by somebody called GLEN that wer perfect so extremely gutted with wat theyve been left with. Will now b seeking to take this to small claims court as not only did he not finish his work but preyed on wat was an extremely vulnerable person who on multiple times explained that they was suffering with a mental illness episode n even explained how bad it was. By no means is Stef's a bad tattooist however in my experience there are far better ones out there…read more Before you read on please bare in mind that my personal experience comes from a good few years ago but is the reason I have not been back. I found them quite uneducated in piercing practice as when I had my nose pierced for the first time they used a gun. Anyone into piercing knows a gun shatters the cartilage whereas a needle separates it and should always be used over a gun for non ear piercings. A friend had his first tattoo done there many many years ago, a celtic band that went around his upper arm, and it wasn't 'level'. Another friend wanted a very simple custom design but was put off by the hefty price tag charged to design per hour. Obviously they're doing something right as they've been there as far as I can remember yet personally I would not get anything else done there.

They really show her specific talents and act as a guide to the artwork she produces. If you don't see something you like, you can bring in drawings or ideas and she will help you create the ideal design with a drawing deposit (which you will have to pay anywhere you go). This is taken off the final payment for the tattoo as well! She's very friendly, knows her artwork and will help you in decisions - if you're not sure on colours, give her the reigns! She won't disappoint =) Don't be afraid of what you're going to talk about for 3 hours whilst having your tattoo done as she's good to talk to and she's happy to let you bring a friend with you too! I was really impressed with my tattoo, the detail, the colour and the specifically old school with brighter colours design.
