One of the largest hospitals in the area, but may feel under-appreciated or underused with the Manchester Royal Infirmary only a short drive away, which is the largest hospital in the country by the number of beds. The hospital was redeveloped in the early 2010s which was much needed, and the refreshed look still feels modern to this day, it is fairly easy to get around the hospital and find where you need to go, the environment is clean, and the staff are friendly, with overly good standards. I did find a huge contrast between certain areas and wings of the hospital, even down to the modern features and comfort of the chairs, but it is the NHS... you can't expect too much. It's surprisingly easy to get through to someone at the hospital's switchboard, and I was passed to my consultant's secretary and appointment line in a matter of minutes, which is how it should be, while other hospitals can be much more inconsistent. Mobile Signal in the hospital is weak, likely down to equipment interfering with the connection. 4*

I came here today for a medical appointment, it is worth noting that in Department 30 where I visited and it seems they operate this across the hospital, they have 15 minute timeslots but of course they often go over, so do expect delays on your appointment time but do get there on time, I had to wait for 1/2 an hour over before my appointment lasted 10 minutes over what they allowed it for, and taken around 27 minutes. I normally don't like to review hospitals as I don't like it affecting my care, but after being discharged today I feel that I'm in a more comfortable posision to do so. Most of the consultants here and staff I spoken to seemed nice, there even was a really nice, older lady who has been there for many years, a voulenteer who helps make tea, coffee and cordial for free while you wait, there is a cafe serving Starbucks coffee at the other side of the hospital, but it isn't great, it isn't a proper Starbucks and I doubt they even do everything up to brand standards, and I would advise if you want a coffee to go down the road, as 1/2 a mile just a right turn from the car park, on your left is a Starbucks Coffee and opposite there, there is a nice looking Nando's, Wetherspoons and Starbucks Coffee. This hospital is quite big, so it often can take a while to walk to your appointment if you come in at the wrong enterence, I found parking at The Christie Multi-story easier, despite having to go up until the top 12th floor to find a space, there is lots of parking put on, outside from the hospital but they are barely advertised and isn't as nice to park, and often you can go in and out and find nowhere to park at all. Overall, this is quite a nice hospital and does deserve 3 stars, it has good phone signal too and is a nice thing to have in Manchester, as it is a leading hospital not just in the country, but in the continent, sadly I don't feel it deserves over 3 stars due to certain issues such as how appointments are dealt with and the situation in general regarding the cafe, and even car parking and public transport options to get directly here.

Withington Community Hospital isn't really in Withington. It's in West Didsbury. I was a bit…read moresuspicious when I was referred to this hospital as in my experience any establishment with the word 'community' in it has had zero sense of community and on the contrary has been pretty rough. However, this NHS hospital is large, modern and welcoming with nice artwork on the walls - or so my boyfriend tells me. The dermatology department, which I was referred to, is located in a little old portacabin just down the road. Every time I've been there I've had to wait for at least 20 minutes after my appointment time. The walls are covered in little posters warning patients not to abuse staff if they're running late, which made me think that my experiences were not uncommon. When I was finally seen the treatment I received was absolutely excellent, the nurse was always so friendly and didn't give the impression she was rushing through (probably the reason for the wait). On one visit I also saw a specialist Dr who was just as friendly and helpful. You can park free for 30 minutes (which would be enough to drop someone off but not for an appointment), there is a pay and display machine for longer visits and the 84 bus stops right outside the hospital. There isn't an A&E, so this is only really a hospital you would visit on referral from a GP, but there is also a walk-in centre in the main building.

However, when my Dad had his operation cancelled, TWICE, THE DAY BEFORE, enough was enough and he went private. Being admitted to The Spire was like checking into a four star hotel. No queues, no waiting time, no stressed out nurses and sleep deprived junior doctors, No busy wards with dubious bed neighbours telling you all about their prolapsed piles, no, no, no, The Spire is private darling and that would never do!! It had free parking, a lovely, friendly receptionist and pleasant waiting area which we were in for almost a minute before a porter came to fetch dad and introduce him to his room. Quite honestly, having had no experience of private hospitals before, the room was not quite as elaborate as I expected. Maybe the chaise longue and swags and tails curtains in my imagination were a bit farfetched. The Spire's bedroom looked like a nice Premier Travel Inn with a TV and a lovely white en-suite bathroom. I suppose I was regarding the whole situation from the wrong perspective. The Spire is not about the decor, it is about providing excellent quality individual care in an environment where a patient can choose their own consultant, experience tremendous facilities and have their ailments addressed promptly. Actually, it was well posh! Dad had to choose from a menu of full English or Continental breakfast, a typical dinner was chicken and sweetcorn soup and prawn salad- he didn't want to leave!. All the staff were so friendly and there were no visiting restrictions. Dad was more than amused to realise that most of the patients were there for cosmetic surgery and I must say that I did have a look at what procedures are performed there ( boobs, nose job, lipo, tummy tuck, eyelid surgery and bingo wings...... I was just curious). Great hospital, lovely staff and dad received the treatment he deserved.

The Professor is a wonderful gentleman supported by a Brilliant team within the hospital. At every stage from appointment to admission through recovery to discharge the staff have been wonderful. The Hospital Director Mr Eadsforth has continued to improve and enhance the experience of both patients and staff, and he is well- liked and respected within the organisation. The food is excellent and I highly recommend this hospital if you are contemplating a procedure in the near future.

They were so friendly and made the whole operation almost enjoyable! The nurse, anaesthetist and surgeon all saw me within the first hour of arriving and the anaesthetist was incredibly thorough; she talked through my pre-existing conditions and thoroughly checked me over. The technician and post-op nurses were also so friendly and made me feel at ease! Very grateful.

It's one of the most respected research and teaching hospitals in the UK and it's chest clinic one of the best (with some of the country's best professors working within the units). I was there last year (once in the chest clinic as it happens, and once in A&E) and given the usual negativity NHS hospitals receive, my experience was nothing but highly positive. The care and understanding and expertise of the staff is outstanding in what can often be unnerving places. It's a sprawling site and facilities are improving all the time (they're currently building a large health campus on site). I think the majority of people having to visit here would be equally positive.

I gave birth to my daughter in the Maternity Dept at Wythenshawe Hospital. After being in labour…read moreand stuck on the triage ward, I was transferred to Delivery when my waters broke and had fantastic care and support from the midwives there. I had a long an exhausting labour (with epidural) all night and finally gave birth to my daughter at 6.20am on the Sunday morning in Nov 2008. I could not fault the midwife or the student midwife who looked after me, they were amazing! If it wasn't for them, I probably would have wound up in theatre, having my daughter by C-section. The doctor who delivered my daughter (she had assisted delivery) was equally fantastic, and very professional. They looked after us so well and made coffee and toast for us after I had showered and freshened up after the birth. Sadly, I can't say the same for the ward I was on after having my daughter. The put me in a 4 bedded ward opposite a 15 year old who had the most annoying boyfriend and about 50 familiy members come to visit at visiting hours. Having had no sleep for 3 days and an exhausting labour, all I wanted to do was curl up and get some sleep, but I coudn't. The midwives on this ward basically left us to it, and after 1 night's stay there, I'd had enough and discharged myself and my daughter. Needless to say, we both recovered at home very well and the community midwives were very pleased with our progress.

They eventually admitted me, operated and gave me 6 weeks IV antibiotics and discharged me for a second time with the infection still in my spine. They took 6 weeks to arrange a scan and recall me. They then failed to start IV antibiotics for a further 9 days, until I asked a different hospital to take over my care. I've been left with significant injuries to my upper body and right knee. Tameside Hospital have purposefully altered my records to hide their negligence - repeatedly! All the evidence is available, yet Tameside continue to refuse to meaningfully engage, to enable these to be corrected.

No hospital is perfect we all know that but Tameside in particular gets a beating in the newspapers and on the news. MRSA and C Dif have been topics of concern and also waiting times etc etc. So take it from a girl who works in the accident and emergency part, we all work hard. It is a hard job and i understand that people do not want to be there. We are helpful and we have millions of thank you cards, but I guess that part gets missed out. Anyway it is a lot better than it use to be. Massive improvements are being made right now and are ongoing. New buildings are being made, A new A&E is being built, new everything. Yes, it was in need of a update but the service is just as good as anywhere else! Its clean despite what you may think. For everything else you simply drop in, write down your name and date of birth for the receptionist and wait your turn in the queue. The centre is modern - in fact it's brand spanking new - and the staff are friendly and professional. They will give confidential advice (which won't be passed to your doctor or anybody else without your consent), free contraception including condoms, the pill, injections, the IUD and emergency contraception, test for STIs and give information about abortions. On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays they run clinic especially for under 25s - check the website for times.

North Manchester General Hospital is one of the older hospitals in Greater Manchester, being…read morefounded in the early 1900's, making it over 100 years older than the new hospitals in Manchester city centre. It is in the Crumpsall area of Manchester, and is in fact the only remaining hospital in North Manchester, which it of course takes its name from. It does have an Accident and Emergency of here, of which I've found to be old-fashioned inside, with slightly longer than average waiting times. The overall look and feel of the hospital, really did feel old and old-fashioned and in dire need of refurbishment, especially when compared to other hospitals, it really didn't feel like a nice place to be (even for a hospital). Parking here isn't great either, there is only limited spaces and you do have to pay which I strongly despise, the location isn't really near anywhere central other than a bus stop (with services into the city center which take a long amount of time, and a number 16 bus which runs every 2 hours into Rochdale and Middleton down Rochdale Road). Overall, poor overall feel, poor parking and overall poor nature of this hospital where I feel it is only surviving and still standing through being the only hospital in North Manchester, sadly warrants a single one-star I'm sorry to report.

The hospital itself offers, nhs dentist ,speech therapy chiropodist, physio. and specialist apointments with doctors. I had phsio at the hospital after suffering a fracture.. my son also attented the hydrotherapy pool, the care i have received has been of top standards. There is lots of carparking which costs £3. At the hospital there are also wards.
