I have been to A&E there twice…read more First time I had a suspected fracture to my shin. I waited for 3 hours in pain and when I finally got to see a doctor the atmosphere in there was making me feel sick. I told him that I need to go out for some air and he said that if I do that then the bed would be given to someone else. I went home unseen. Second time I went in having sliced two of my fingers down to the bone at work. The triage nurse changed the bandage for me and told me to take a seat. Whilst I sat there, the waiting time went up from 30 minutes to 4 and a half hours. Again I went home unseen. I won't go back now unless I am dying. Even then I don't think a doctor would get round to seeing me until I am actually dead.

However, when my Dad had his operation cancelled, TWICE, THE DAY BEFORE, enough was enough and he went private. Being admitted to The Spire was like checking into a four star hotel. No queues, no waiting time, no stressed out nurses and sleep deprived junior doctors, No busy wards with dubious bed neighbours telling you all about their prolapsed piles, no, no, no, The Spire is private darling and that would never do!! It had free parking, a lovely, friendly receptionist and pleasant waiting area which we were in for almost a minute before a porter came to fetch dad and introduce him to his room. Quite honestly, having had no experience of private hospitals before, the room was not quite as elaborate as I expected. Maybe the chaise longue and swags and tails curtains in my imagination were a bit farfetched. The Spire's bedroom looked like a nice Premier Travel Inn with a TV and a lovely white en-suite bathroom. I suppose I was regarding the whole situation from the wrong perspective. The Spire is not about the decor, it is about providing excellent quality individual care in an environment where a patient can choose their own consultant, experience tremendous facilities and have their ailments addressed promptly. Actually, it was well posh! Dad had to choose from a menu of full English or Continental breakfast, a typical dinner was chicken and sweetcorn soup and prawn salad- he didn't want to leave!. All the staff were so friendly and there were no visiting restrictions. Dad was more than amused to realise that most of the patients were there for cosmetic surgery and I must say that I did have a look at what procedures are performed there ( boobs, nose job, lipo, tummy tuck, eyelid surgery and bingo wings...... I was just curious). Great hospital, lovely staff and dad received the treatment he deserved.

The Professor is a wonderful gentleman supported by a Brilliant team within the hospital. At every stage from appointment to admission through recovery to discharge the staff have been wonderful. The Hospital Director Mr Eadsforth has continued to improve and enhance the experience of both patients and staff, and he is well- liked and respected within the organisation. The food is excellent and I highly recommend this hospital if you are contemplating a procedure in the near future.

I recently had to visit this hospitals to have some tests. I have never been before as I have just…read moremoved to the area. Parking is at the bottom of a hill so it is a little walk - it is £1.70 for 4 hours, something I begrudge paying, as I feel it is a tax on the sick. There are the usual outpatients departments, accident and emergency and general surgery. I went inside to the enquiry desk and was welcomed by the assistant. She directed me to the blood test section, I took a ticket, waited my turn and was seen within 5 minutes. I went to the x-ray section (just across the hall) and again only had to wait around 15 minutes. The staff were very helpful and the hospital was very clean and well run. There were soap dispensers everywhere to protect against the spread of germs. All in all, a good experience.

As far as local hospitals go, this is wonderful. On arrival…read moreyou are immediately confronted with an information desk, staffed by very knowledgeable people - volunteers, it would seem. Within any of the departments there are different receptionists who look after all of the patients and check that they know what is going on, then ensure that the patients get to their appointments on time. All the medical staff that I have come into contact with, and that's a lot now, have been very supportive and have explained everything in great detail. I'm sure this is very reassuring to most patients but, as part of my second degree included the use of cNMR, CTI and similar imaging techniques, it wasn't really necessary in my case. The small shopping area/canteen near the main entrance is also well staffed and has a good supply of basic items. A small glitch occurred when I was prescribed some medication, went to the pharmacy for it and found that they can only accept payment in cash. I only carry cash when I Know I will need it, and then just the bare minimum. I ended up sending a cheque through the post as my next appointment isn't soon enough to clear their weekly accounting. Another small complaint has to be the car-parking. Although a hundred times better organised than Warrington, the available space is far too small! This was built on open spaces originally, surely the planners could have predicted it would need more than 40-odd spaces? After all, Halton Lea (formerly The Shopping City) was built at the same time as a futuristc shopping mall, with all sorts of transport facilities. If you need to be there in the morning time, go a little early or, better still, have someone drop you off. Update - January, 2009 Have just found another moan. They don't actually have a proper crash team here. If you have any sort of heart complaint while in the care of Halton, they send you to Warrington Hospital's A&E. Great in my case, as I live there, but could be a problem for others, especially if they've left their car on the carpark! I still think it is a very good hospital, notwithstanding the gripes.

In the start of 2025 I was taken to WHISTON HOSPITAL by ambulance to A &E there is spent 8 hours in…read morethe back of an ambulance then 3 days in the corridor before and allocation of bed on a specific ward was available as I need a separate room due to personal illness and being a C Diff carrier so it's a precaution. But I had to go back on the 14th Dec to A & E once I'd had my bloods done and assessed I A and E it was only a matter of 3 hours then I was allocated a bed on observation ward then treatment began. 24hrs later I was moved to the correct ward in an a room allocated bed. This was a vast improvement which not only assist ing my physical but mental well being in itself. I have being a long term patient in and out on a regular basis been given the best care available by the doctors and nurses at Whiston and can only commend and praise the work and the treatment I have been given. Whilst I was in A&E I must admit I did see a lot of footfall come and go wanting treatment which could've been acquired and was more suitable for the walk in centre locally at the Millenium or seen a doctor if they had rang the surgery to make and emergency appt. The life and capacity is being square out of A&E due to these factors. I would like to give a huge thankyou to the drs and nurses at Whiston Hospital. Whom along with treatment have not only shown me their care but with compassion and empathy also. Poor care, my mother says she would rather die than go to Whiston!!…read more The place is new and soulless, clean and tidy, but no care, staff talk between themselves, while you stand waiting to ask for help. They managed to lose my mothers belongings, broke her hearing aid, they could not understand how important a hearing aid is, thinking shouting at a deaf person is the only answer. When you ask for info the Drs answer was I have not seen her, the nurse pulled out a scrap of paper from her pocket!! what happened to records? To telephone you need a password, but you have to go in to get the password, the system is just not right. Car parking a joke, no info on the web site, even parking attendants telling you to park on the grass, taxi ranks full of cars parked in the wrong place. Not enough disabled bays, so cars just dumped all over the area. WH Smiths is so expensive just to buy water or sweets, at least Costa Coffee was ok. All in all It was very disappointing, when the care is so bad for patients they say they will not press the care alarm again, it must be bad. Some nurses were lovely, but it was never the same staff each time you went so confusing and upsetting for elderly people. Come on Whiston, do some fine tuning, make the patients feel cared for, and improve the food, terrible compared to Newton. Its not only medicine that gets people better.

The sonographer checked ultrasound markers for the Nuchal Fold and Nasal Bone, and conducted a full anatomy check on which includes: head, body, arms, legs, stomach, kidneys and bladder, the NHS only check the Nuchal measurement, so the private scan is much more accurate. I was also offered a Pre- eclampsia screening at the same time as down's syndrome screening, which I felt was important as I had a girlfriend who lost her baby at 7 months because of it, so I was clear that I wanted this extra screening precaution as the NHS do not provide it, only for high risk people. It was £40 well spent for pre-eclampsia screening and peace of mind. The verbal detailed information given by Judith at this is my, was far more comprehensive than I received on the NHS, I was not even sure they checked half the things this is my checked for and it took them almost 20 min's to find the Nuchal !! I was worried as nothing much was said during the pregnancy scan and the sonographer was not very reassuring. I live in Manchester so it was an hours drive to the Leeds clinic but well worth it, I was worried about my second pregnancy after having a miscarriage earlier this year. I wanted the reassurance to know that everything would be OK with this pregnancy and after searching the Internet found a private centre called this is my, who specialised in pregnancy scans and Down's syndrome screening in Leeds as their Manchester centre opens Mid Sept and another one in Hull in December. I was overwhelmed by how much extra information this centre gave me as opposed to the NHS. I will certainly treat ourselves to a 4D scan and dvd movie in December. Paying privately for the most precious thing in life is money well spent and my pregnancy care is in good hands with this centre. Lisa Dodds

Withington Community Hospital isn't really in Withington. It's in West Didsbury. I was a bit…read moresuspicious when I was referred to this hospital as in my experience any establishment with the word 'community' in it has had zero sense of community and on the contrary has been pretty rough. However, this NHS hospital is large, modern and welcoming with nice artwork on the walls - or so my boyfriend tells me. The dermatology department, which I was referred to, is located in a little old portacabin just down the road. Every time I've been there I've had to wait for at least 20 minutes after my appointment time. The walls are covered in little posters warning patients not to abuse staff if they're running late, which made me think that my experiences were not uncommon. When I was finally seen the treatment I received was absolutely excellent, the nurse was always so friendly and didn't give the impression she was rushing through (probably the reason for the wait). On one visit I also saw a specialist Dr who was just as friendly and helpful. You can park free for 30 minutes (which would be enough to drop someone off but not for an appointment), there is a pay and display machine for longer visits and the 84 bus stops right outside the hospital. There isn't an A&E, so this is only really a hospital you would visit on referral from a GP, but there is also a walk-in centre in the main building.

Joined to St Marys Hospital my beautiful daughter was born here. All the staff were professional…read moreand polite. they tended to all mother and baby's needs and mine when I nearly fainted haha. Both parts of this hospital are extremely hygienic and most the decor/equipment is brand new. 5/5 in my opinion !!!
