An amazing place where everyone work in getting your kids at their best. My son started going here 2 years ago and he enjoyes every minute spent there. They are so supportive during tournament and i really love an appreciate all the hard work they put in every kid to help them get where they need to. read more

Just a great place! My two kids love coming here. I like watching them learn a skill and burn off energy. The two instructors are fantastic! I look at this a great investment in my kids' self esteem. Well worth the investment! I wish I had done this as a kid. read more

Mandeville Karate is the place to be for the highest quality martial arts training in Mandeville, LA. Our state-of-the-art facility has two raised wooden workout areas, an attached lobby, and a second floor viewing loft, as well as private bathrooms, private dressing rooms, showers, and two private lesson rooms. Achieve great results in our classes, where you'll use a variety of blocks, kicks, punches, and strikes. Our formal training program is based upon traditional teaching methods that gradually build your physical condition and mental concentration. We believe that through our program kids and adults can gain self-confidence, self-control, self-discipline, and the ability to accomplish nearly anything they set their heart and mind to.

History

Established in 1984.

Mandeville Karate Training Center was established in 1984 by Joe Dupaquier. We are like most Karate Schools that teach Self Defense, Fitness, and Character Development (Self Control, Focus, Confidence etc.). We are different in our approach. What you will find in other Karate Schools teaching character development in the form of a vocabulary lesson. Words like "Respect" are written on a dry erase board, while children sit on a mat. The vocabulary lesson is given and kids are expected to now have that quality ingrained in their being. At Mandeville Karate Training Center students are immersed in an environment that has a developed culture of Respect, Focus, Discipline. Over a period of time those qualities are absorbed by the student. This process takes time. This process is more effective. This process has longer lasting results. This process is why Mandeville Karate Training Center has a longer and more positive history in Mandeville, Louisiana than any other school.

Meet the Business Owner: Travis B.

Travis Bush grew up in Mandeville and Bush. He graduated from Mandeville High School in 2000 and is presently enrolled at SLU in Hammond, where he studies Criminal Justice and Sociology. He began training at MKTC in 1987 at the age of six. In October of 1995, at the age of thirteen, Travis earned his junior black belt and was only the third junior black belt in the history of MKTC and the 5th in the history of our system of Tae Kwon Do. In December of 1997 he received his Adult black belt (first degree), and in March of 1999 he received his Second Degree. He has continued his Martial Studies by competing in tournaments, attending seminars, learning Okinawan Kobodo (weapons training) and attending the International Karate Kobodo Federation?s training Camps as well as spending time at IKKF Headquarters training with 9th degree black belt, C. Unlike other dojos where you pay for your belt color, Louisiana Karate Association makes you earn it. There are no free things in life. The lazy river is artfully done, giving a nod to Louisiana wildlife and nature areas. There are a lot of skillful and friendly lifeguards around the area. There are several different food pavilions, restrooms, locker areas, and areas to sit. There is also a fun water slide, giving homage to the infamous alligators with albinism who have taken residence at the Zoo and Aquarium over the years. This would be a fun place to relax with your kids during one of the summer sessions. My friends and I attending the adults-only Sip and Dip event held on Fridays during the summer. It was very affordable for a private cabana for six with early access. Be sure to reserve your tickets for the event early online as it does sell out. It got a bit crowded toward the end, and they did run out of regular floats, though some preferred the thick floating noodles offered. Every Friday night has a different theme, so there is something for everyone. They bring in Dickie Brennans for the bar, and they were wonderful with decently priced drinks and quality alcohol. They were also creating with the mocktails. I certainly will return for another Sip and Dip either later this summer, if able, or next year. Absolutely worth it!

My first time at Cool Zoo was for the adults-only Friday night party, Sip & Dip. This event is 2X a month during the heart of the summer and features theme nights with DJs and of course since this is NOLA, people get creative and might dress in theme. I went on 80s night and the music was so fun and I loved people wearing neon, 80s tshirts and even hair and make-up. Refreshments stands are spread out among the park and they do a themed cocktail and sell beer, hard seltzer and soft drinks, along with typical concession food and popcorn. I had the cocktail of the evening, the Purple Rain and while it was eye-catching, it was so sweet and possibly strong, too, that I couldn't drink more than 1/4 of it (and it's a huge cup, fairly priced at only $13). The grounds are beautiful with fountains and an area with slides and water features that you'd normally see children dominating (with perfectly good reason) but it was actually fun to see adults having at it on the slides and at the water sprayers. Then there's the lazy river, which is a decent size, warm and full of jets to move you along. We ended up not using flotation devices and swam/walked through it. My main issue and why this event isn't personally my cup of tea: it's too crowded. It sells out but I think they sell far too many tickets. We arrived 15 min after it started and there wasn't a lounge chair nor seat at a table to be found. Cabanas are so cheap here but they sell out immediately ahead of the event, likely the day that tickets go on sale. The only way I'd return was if I could get a cabana. The lazy river is completely packed 45 minutes into the event. We were lucky enough to get a locker (which also sell out so imagine being there without a space to put your things??? how is that fun?). People are in general nice enough to hand over the inner tubes but good luck ever getting a place to sit if you didn't line up in advance of start time. I keep going back between 3 and 4 stars for the main reason that everyone who works here is SO nice. The staff really made everything bearable for me, as they were so welcoming and helpful to point out where the lockers were (there's another set behind the set you initially encounter). I just think this isn't the event for anyone who avoids crowds of people. And the crowd that was there that night were totally fine (at least early in the evening). They just sell too many tickets for me to enjoy it.

I even worked there in college and this is a first-hand review of my experience and my feelings about how the club handles the safety of its' older members, two of whom are my parents. The fact that Franco's got my original review taken down instead of absorbing the feedback and addressing safety concerns shows they care more about their reputation than safety. I stand by my original review... I'd like to reiterate, please enter at your own risk. There are trainers and employees who are not vaxxed and working closely indoors with members in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who could be at risk because of the selfishness and irresponsibility of Franco's, it's staff, and policies. Is there a vaccine mandate in Mandeville? No. Can businesses implement one? Yes. In my opinion, to hide behind the, "no mandate" defense is lazy and puts profits before safety. We were incredibly disappointed and horrified to learn one of the trainers who works with my elderly members including my dad, had Covid and was unvaxxed. How many days do you think this trainer showed up to work as a carrier before testing positive? It's unclear and scary to think about. Of course getting Covid isn't anyone's fault... But to knowingly and willingly go to work in an indoor environment with people who are elderly and choose not to be vaccinated, all with permission of your employer, is dangerous. I don't think it's unfair or unkind to warn people of a potentially unsafe and dangerous environment. I'd like to offer a suggestion - if you are not going to require vaccinations of your staff, I'd recommend only having those trainers who are vaccinated, teach/train members 60+.
