What a beautiful day. - worship at Mary, Queen of Peace: check - coffee from the wonderful people at PJ's: check - walking on the lakefront with my little buddy: check - crazy, cool tree covered in icicles melting and cracking: check Today was one of those amazingly cool and dry days we get as a real gift from the Father about 4 or 6 times a year. Probably more, but work is work, yeah? Still, it was so cold and crisp, and the sun was so beautiful and bright, that we parked up the street on Girod just to walk past the shops on our way to the lake. Ok, we also parked there to get a pic that super cool tree and the sun shining through the icicles. The lakefront is a gorgeous walk along the seawall - sun glinting off the calm waves, other walkers/runners/cyclists (not too many today!) enjoying the gift of the day the Lord has made. Freki and I were definitely rejoicing in it! We did get some water at The Barley Oak - always dog-friendly, or maybe dog-encouraging. It's one of our favorite places to stop and meet new people to pet. If you see Freki, say hi, he wants to pet you, I promise! 2 thumbs and a couple dewclaws up for this one! read more

What strikes me about Mandeville is how different it is from New Orleans. When you get off the bridge, you are in Cajun country. The names, the architecture, even the pollen are different on this shore of the lake. The lakefront has an abundance of trees with Spanish Moss and a nice view. It is very peaceful and a great place to watch the sunset, and there are a few businesses among the houses, a path along the lakeside, and a park at the Eastern end. There are limitations; there isn't much of a beach, and when the local kids were telling each other not to go in the water because it was toxic, I believed them. The things to do here are walk and watch and soak in the breeze and that's about it. There isn't a ton of infrastructure, and people looking for a restroom or water will have to find an open business of some sort. The selling point of the area is simply its charm. read more

The Mandeville lakefront is one of my favorite places in Louisiana. Throughout my entire life I have been drawn to the water. Maybe it's the stories my grandfather told about the times he commanded a ship during WWII. Maybe it's the the drives by the lake with my dad. Maybe it's all the time I spent on boats with my dad and brothers. Whatever it is, it draws me in, relaxes me, and centers me. I often find myself driving along the lakefront when I need to think. The slow leisurely drive, coupled with the beautiful view, is very relaxing. The numerous parking spots allow you to exit your car and grab a seat along the seawall. Looking out across that vast lake makes me feel like I am on vacation. The problems of the day wash away as I stare towards the city. That view and the resulting relaxing feeling are a big part of why I moved to the Northshore. If you have children, there are two different areas with playground equipment. The area closer to the causeway is much older, with wooden equipment. I prefer that area for my kids since it is the type of equipment I used to play on. They prefer the area near the yacht club with the larger, more modern equipment. No matter which you visit, your kids will enjoy themselves while you enjoy the view. It is difficult to describe my love for this place, but once you visit, you will understand completely. read more

There are certain places in this wonderful world of ours that are just really special. The Mandeville Lakefront is at the very top of my "really freaking special" list. There are so many things to love about it that it's hard to even know where to begin. I'll try... Lake Pontchartrain is huge and just gorgeous. I love it so much. When the sun is rising above the lake and you are awake to witness it you'll feel happy to be alive. When the sun sets and it looks like the lake is swallowing it you'll be in awe of it. Midday when the sun makes the lake sparkle and light dances off of it? It'll bring tears to your eyes. There are baby ducks swimming all along the Mandeville Lakefront. Baby ducks! I want to scoop them up and bring them home. Those things are cute and I want them all! I am very tempted to fill up my bathtub and let them live here with me. The pelicans. Pelicans fill me with pride for some reason. I love them and love that they rule the lakefront like the badasses that they are. On a clear day you can see the greatest city ever known to man from the Mandeville Lakefront. Hello, New Orleans. This is a beautiful place. Come see it. I know you'll agree with me. read more

I came back to Mandeville after 19 years to find the lakefront every bit as wonderful as I remembered it. It's a beautiful, calming place for a walk, to bring the kids to play, or to sit with a good book. There are beautiful homes all along the park nostalgic of southern plantation homes. read more

I don't get to the Northshore nearly enough. On my visit this time, I was sure to check out the Mandeville Lakefront, mainly because I wanted to compare it to the NOLA side. We had brunch at a place that is right on the lakefront, so we got to admire the view as we sat and enjoyed our food. On this particular day it was a bit foggy, so I couldn't see all the way to New Orleans, but it was still enjoyable. One thing I really like about the Mandeville Lakefront is all of the sailboats that are out on the water. If I lived in the area, I think going out and spending a nice day on a sailboat would be something I would enjoy, as long at the water wasn't too choppy. There's a nice little seating area out there and it's just a good spot to sit and relax on a nice day. Parking is plentiful and it wasn't too crowded while we were out there. read more

The lakefront is a great place to take a stroll, walk your dogs, visit with family, watch the sunset, and sure, take photographs. The whole area is so quaint and beautiful. There are gazebos and swings along the way to relax, parks and play areas for children, and magnificent oaks to enjoy. Not to mention the gorgeous houses that line Lakeshore Drive - just looking is like a trip back in time. Definitely a must-see when visiting Mandeville. read more

We've been here a handful of times and never disappointed. It's clean, it's got parking, a play area for the kids, plenty of clean picnic space, gorgeous trees. It's nice and quiet, perfect place to watch sunsets and let the kids play at the park and swing. All around good place! read more

I love the lakefront. Nice place to come sit and relax by the water. The sidewalks are great for a nice walk or run. The parks and splash pad are great for the kids to play at. My only complaint that I have had for years is NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS!!! You either have to go into a restaurant or bar along the lakefront to use the restaurant. Which is a problem, this means you have to leave and either go home or stop at one of the gas stations or fast food restaurants along 190. read more
