I was soooo hungry and could smell something delicious coming from this little shop at Granville St and 11th. It was around 1pm on a Friday, it was very quiet. Found a table right away. There are some small tables for two along with high tables. I ordered the 'hot' sandwich, chicken parm. I was expecting crispy chicken parm with yummy cheese and rich tomatoe sauce. Let's be honest, the star of this show is the bread! The baguette was warm, soft and so delicious. However, that's where the excitement stopped for me. The chicken with breading was soggy and the pesto and mozzarella was such a small amount, it felt like a soggy chicken sandwich with lots of bread. If they put more pesto dressing, more mozzarella cheese and more tomatoe sauce, I could have looked past the soggy chicken. All in all, I'm glad it tried it, the bread is amazing, and I'll come back to try a 'cold' sandwich to see if the other options are better! read more

I have been going to this spot since they opened, not gonna lie , one of the best fast sandwiches spots around. Until recently... The best part of the sandwich was the bread, they sourced it par baked from a bakery and finished it in store. it was amazing. For some reason (I expect cost) they stopped doing that and now get the bread from another of their locations. I would agree with some other reviews here, Mangia's is a bit expensive, but I and my friends were willing to pay for quality. The new bread they use is dry, tough and sub par, I tried to get used to it twice, but will not be going back. Awesome food and service was amazing, I'm in the store quite regularly picking up orders. The place is always busy and staff are friendly. I decided to preorder a pickup order & try their sandwiches firsthand. When I arrived my order was ready and waiting for me. And I got my order without delay. I ordered the meatball sub ( next time I will order the smaller size ) and it was very tasty presentation was great. Portion size was very generous. Price is fair. Pretty good sandwiches, couldn't really ask for more. I got the meatball, and I liked that they had chopped it pretty thin rather than just toss the entire thing in the sandwich and calling it a day. Overpriced mediocrity. I stopped by on a weekday for lunch. Little takeout stand with some tables inside if you want to sit. Parking is only on the street nearby if you can find it. Really caters to the pedestrian crowd and those working nearby. Got the italian sandwich on toasted focaccia. The bread was stale, then toasted to try to hide this, ended up being overly hard stale focaccia. They are also very light on filling. And in terms of sauce, just balsamic drizzle. This is not a good sandwich, or fresh, or worth the ridiculous $15 they charged for this. I just ended up hurting the roof of my mouth without the satisfaction of a good sandwich. Its like nobody running this place has ever had a good sandwich before. My gold standard for an italian sandwich are the Schiacciata sandwiches all over Florence. Maybe its not fair to compare to something like that. Mangia's is probably trying to mimic and elevate a more readily available deli sub at a North American fast food sandwich shop. But even then they fail, since again, stale bread, overpriced. They get an extra star for the staff being very nice. Otherwise, for this sandwich shop's sandwiches, 1/5 is generous. Avoid. Decent little old school deli of a sandwich shop. Classic subs with either Baguette or Focaccia bread. Baguette is baked in house, more crispy then fresh but not quite rip the top of your mouth open crisp. Ingredients are fresh and the interior is cute. Ultimately a nice spot except for two things. 1) for what you get, it's unfairly priced high. 2) the music blasting was a downer, bunch of sad slow rap that clearly the staff liked but was a drag. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time, and finally had a chance to stop in today. I was hopeful because in contrast to the dry, dense, tough focaccia used at their parent store Jo's Italian Deli, they offer "baguette" bread which is much better for sandwiches (it's not actually french baguette, more of a larger Italian sub-type roll. You'd think people claiming hard to be Italian would know the difference.). I had an Italian Deli sandwich. It tasted ok, but there was barely any meat in the sandwich and it was extremely expensive for what I got (like $17). I was surprised because the photos from Elizabeth on Yelp show TONS of meat in the sandwich cross sections. But mine didn't look anything like that, there were maybe two layers of very thun-sliced meat, so Elizabeth's photos must've been double meat sandwiches. I wish I had read more reviews because upon further inspection, it seems a lot of people are unhappy with the small amount of meat on the sandwiches. There was such little meat on my sandwich that I couldn't really tell it was in there. In fact, I ate most of the sandwich thinking they forgot the salami, because I couldn't see or taste it. When my sandwich was almost finished, I opened it up and there was a single layer of extremely thin salami at the bottom. Just goes to show they really skimp on the meat. If I ever purchased a sandwich here again, I'd order double meat. That would add a few bucks more to the cost, putting the total price at around $20. That's too expensive for an uncooked sandwich made in 2 minutes from deli cold cuts. Not sure what they are thinking with those prices. They better hope that Jimmy John's doesn't come to town because they would blow them out of the water with way better subs that cost half the price. At least they have an option to get baguette, unlike their parent company Jo's Italian deli, which just has a dense thick focaccia that is terrible for a sandwich. read more

I needed a place for lunch on a Saturday and saw a bunch of people heading into Mangia's. A quick and causal sandwich sounded great so I walked in. It was fine. My order was taken quite quickly, and I ordered a turkey sandwich with everything on it. They make all the sandwiches fresh, which is definitely nice. I got my sandwich within a few minutes. I opted to eat in the shop, as they have 4 small tables and a counter. The sandwich itself was fine. It tasted as you'd expect a turkey sandwich to taste. It was good, satisfying, but nothing phenomenal. I'd definitely come back again if I needed a quick bite, but wouldn't go out of my way for it! read more

Best Tuna sandwhich in the city bar none, delicious spicy filling & bread just like I like it. The awful music detracts from the atmosphere true and staff aren't any too happy at their work-neither would I be; it is a clean bright space though. Next time I'll get mine to go there are few OK places to sit outside in the neighbourhood and you aren't likely to be confronted by the kind of situation so common downtown. read more

A generous four - more like a 3.5. There definitely some good things about the sandwich. Went Italian Deli as a bit of a benchmark, with salad and regular size sub was $18+. Few choices of pre made salad or pack of small olives. Subs made to order - relatively limited number of ingredients and some that are no charge at other places were an add on here. Provolone cheese, couple of fresh sliced deli meats - slice thinly and reasonable portion. Tomatoes slice and very finely shredded lettuce, salt and pepper and some sort of seasoning. Mayo I think and oil and vinegar. Reminded me of Mr Sub a bit with better bun and better ingredients. Asked for light dressing but still found it quite wet even though kept flat and ate about ten minutes after ordering. Bread seems to be made on site (or at least par asked and finished onsite). Small bright seating area. Definitely better than Subway, not as good as some of the American based sub shops. Portion was fine but some may find it a bit light for the price. Compared to Nat's, it was a lot less sandwich but also a different style. Also didn't have the giant piece of onions etc that you find at every pizza place that has subs and salads. Glad to try it and it's closer than other options but would probably choose local banh mi or Nats over this. From a food prep/cross contamination issue - sliced meats were all cut and placed on the same bare metal scale one after another which isn't ideal. Also the same people were taking cash and then slicing meats etc. - wearing same prep gloves the whole time. read more

Their sandwiches are good but I find it's way over priced. Staff are nice and it's a clean spot but the one thing that really brings down the rating is the fact that their hours are unreliable. Their website and posted hours say one thing but then they will randomly be closed. It's happened on multiple occasions where I'll try to stop in many hours before they're supposed to close and they're not opened. If you're lucky, they'll have a poorly written sign on the door saying that they closed early, but usually not. It's extremely annoying and will not be trying again (the food isn't worth the headache). read more

Sandwiches come in 2 sizes, 8inches vs 11inches. They have multiple options for the base of the sandwich like ham&cheese, meatball, tuna salad etc. For toppings you can ask for a "classic" style which has onions, cheese, lettuce, and some other things, but you can customize it as much as you want. When i received it i cant say i was impressed. I was expecting more for $11 (8inches), it truly wasnt anything special. read more
