I go through periods of ordering quite a bit from here, or taking long breaks - This is largely due to the quality on delivery sandwiches being a bit all over the place, or items being forgotten in the delivery multiple times in a row. I really also don't love seeing "cheddar" on the menu, but receiving a cheap slice of plastic American cheese on a $20+ sandwich...That's going to be the main reason I drop off (likely for good) this time, as it totally ruined the sandwich for me and I don't want to risk it again if this is considered normal. If the sandwiches weren't so expensive, it might not be so egregious. When the sandwiches hit, they really hit. They can be a bit heavy handed on some ingredients, but overall it's a pretty decent bite. The snack sized sandwiches were a good addition, and a regular with a side of chips is enough to split. New menu and it is going to start offering breakfast sandwiches soon. The new menu board has less sandwich options. The add on for vegetables and hickory stick is no longer on the board. My favorite sandwich from here has always been the corned beef. The new corned beef sandwich does not have the Mack sauce. I usually asked to add the hickory sticks and lettuce, onions, etc, so I did that even though I did not see that on the board. The new menu also means those previously free add-on veggies and hickory sticks are now chargeable at $0.49 each. I was not told of this extra cost. I also did not like the bread that was used for the corned beef sandwich. The texture was a bit gummy. Another thing I did not like was how it was not indicated how much savings you would get by making it a combo (side and drink). It was $0.50 savings. Yup, you only save 50 cents when you do a combo. Since it is not stated anywhere, I'm sharing it here. In any case, I am quite disappointed with the sandwich choices now since the old corned beef sandwich I like is no longer on the menu. Plus I cannot believe my small sandwich combo meal cost about $21! I will not be going back in a hurry. Second review: I didn't have a lunch and my friend was gonna go here so I figured I'd tag along. I got the #26 - one of the veggie ones. I ended up liking it more than I thought. I got the large size and that was a good size for me. I like how you can add hickory sticks to any sandwich for no charge. I think I will go here again mainly bc I saw on their website that you can substitute any meat for the veggie patty option. First review: You get your value for your money and I say that bc you get good, fresh ingredients. I got the small veggie sandwich $8 after tax I think. Hey didn't have the meat substitutes, otherwise I would have tried that. I really liked the creamy honey mustard sauce. We visited for the first time today, and were disappointed with our sandwiches. They are served on thick, dense, chewy ciabatta bread, with only a small amount of meat inside. Seems they have their meat:bread ratio backwards. Heavy on the mayo-based sauces (e.g. the "Mack sauce", a clone of Big Mac sauce. Eww...), which results in a fatty, greasy meal that makes you feel a bit disgusting once you're finished. Prices are high for what you get - $9 for a small or $13 for a large sandwich. I'd probably rather go to Subway next time. read more

This is my favourite spot in New West. This is not my first time visiting and I used to come in from time-to-time since 2015 when they were at their old location. The sandwiches are great. I always tend to lean towards a number 4 when I'm there, but I always check the menu to try to pick up a new number or see what the special is every time I go there. They have a very wide selection of sandwiches between beef, turkey and deli-cuts. The way the meat, sticks or whatever the contents of your sandwich are; they're perfectly stacked. It's always super delicious too. Depending on the sandwich you select you may have a monstrous pile of meat between bread. The bread is always fresh and it's great too. In my opinion the bread they bake and use ties everything together. Be careful though. If you come in on a weekday around lunch time, you're going to end up waiting. Staff is friendly too. Front counter people always strike up a conversation with me when it's slow. Absolutely worth checking out if you're in the New West area or even the Surrey Central area. read more

I love Big Star! The sandwiches are all so fresh and tasty. I love the pulled turkey - it is so much better than getting lunchmeat turkey. And like other reviewers have said, the hickory sticks are a must add on item! They stay crisp and add a really great taste and texture to any sandwich. Kudos to the staff here too - I have come in a few minutes before closing a couple times now and they are still really nice to me. I know how annoying it can be when you've already cleaned your tools and the counter etc, but they still gave great service and made my order just right. The only negative that I can think of is that the sandwiches get a bit boring. There are a lot of sandwiches on the menu but at the end of the day they all taste really similar - I think most of them have a similar sauce, they have only a few meat choices, and the sandwich buns are all the same. So it's good if you eat at Big Star once in a while, but don't go too often if you like to have variety. read more

Despite the mask under her chin, the employee making my order chose not to mask up. While preparing the sandwich she touched her face. When I made mention that none of that is food safe, especially during a pandemic, she shrugged it off. She did agree to make me a new sandwich, but she started it with the same face touching gloves, and only after starting did she remember to put her mask on. Been wanting to 'revisit' Big Star ever since they moved to this location. It's always so busy on Columbia whenever I pass by so I don't bother. But on Tuesday night, I just happen to be driving by around 7pm and there were plenty of parking and store was open until 8pm (despite what their website states). The guys who greeted me were ultra friendly and the place was immaculately clean. After reading the entire menu board, I decided to get the #7 with onions and hickory sticks (a must!) to go. The prices are comparable to other places that serve premium sandwiches that have quality ingredients so I'm not mad at the higher price. When I got home, I just heated the sandwich for 20 seconds in the microwave and voila...supreme experience! The bread was fresh and didn't fall apart despite the multitude of goodness inside. The roast beef was very tasty and moist from the juices it was soaked in. The capocollo added a little spicy sassiness, and the mayo and provolone gave it a bit of creaminess. And finally, the hickory sticks (which stayed crisp despite the drive home and the nuke) and the (still) crisp lettuce gave it the contrasting texture. Recently did an online order and had a terrible experience. My order was 40 minutes late after giving them a pre-order of 1.5 hours before my delivery time. My delivery time should have been the latest 12:30pm and I received it at 1:10pm. When I called the store to find out the status just after 12:30pm, I was not given any apology or explanation but was told I could cancel my order if I did not want to wait. The lady I spoke to gave me a rough idea but then said she can't guarantee and she can just cancel my order. What kind of service is that? Honestly, how am I supposed to determine that if I don't actually know how much longer it would be. I feel like I should have been notified beforehand if they were running behind and then I could have made my decision. Then to top it off, when I finally received my order, the modifications I specified were not done. Terrible customer service and experience. Not sure I would order from there again. read more

The only really prevailing flavours were mayonnaise and bread. The roast beef seemed unseasoned, the bacon was there texturally but no flavour, and the Hickory Sticks added a neat crunch but were buried in the mayonnaise as well. It was delicious, but so is any sandwich, really. A very well-made sandwich, with quality ingredients, but nothing shone through as "fantastic". No better than a sandwich I'd make at home. For a $12 sandwich, it sure tasted like a $7 sandwich. I figure I should have tried something more exciting, but I try to stay basic when testing a new place out. If they can't do classics, I fear for the experiments. OVERALL: A neat joint with sick vibes and a tasty, but not out-of-this-world sandwich. The corned beef was on point, definitely fresh. And the mustard was tangy, which complimented the sandwich well. But the bread did not hold up against the amount of meat. I ordered 1/4 pound (which was the smallest size) and it barely kept together. But taste wise? Definitely fulfilled my craving. My bf ordered the Kahlua, which was the feature sandwich. Roast beef with spicy mayo and pineapple. Didn't really remind me of anything from Hawaii (which is what I assume they were going for) but I figure you throw pineapple on anything, and people will automatically associate it with Hawaii..... but I digress. Again, taste wise, I did like the flavours. The pineapple did compliment the spicy mayo. But the bread did not hold up. BUT they sold Stumptown Cold Brew Coffee with Chocolate Milk, which is one of my favourite things on this earth, so that's another star right there. Some suggestions? I do wish there was a water station. Even a jug of water and plastic cups will do. And better bread, please. I came in hangry but felt like I walked out way more than I should've and could've realistically handled. I had half and saved the other half for later. After reading tons of positive reviews, i decided to come here with my boyfriend. It's a small little shop conveniently on Colombia. It's super clean inside and they seem to have people cleaning the floors and tables constantly. The staff were super friendly. We shared a roast beef sandwich and we didn't understand the hype over this place. The sandwich wasn't bad at all but it wasn't as outstanding as everyone made this place out to be. Fast forward to this weekend, I got the #25 sandwich (turkey, bacon, provolone, and mack sauce), which the staff member at the counter suggested, and my boyfriend got the #9 (ham, capocollo, bacon, and habanero jack). I'm assuming the meat sandwiches are what earn this eatery most of their good reviews. I ordered their only vegetarian sandwich option, and it left quite a bit to be desired. The sandwich was a bit difficult to eat, as they were thick pieces of artichoke, too thick for a sub. I will say the staff were very nice, and the interior of the restaurant is very clean and modern. It's just that darn vegetarian sandwich that, I am sad to say, is not worth the price. Of course, I can't speak for the meat sandwiches, which may very well be excellent. Looking at their menu online beforehand though, I could see that it was a place geared towards more classic meat/ cheese sandwiches. However, even with getting every sort of veggie option on it plus the vegan turkey meat substitute, it turned out to be a pretty average sandwich. The staff member was super friendly and helped me out which I really appreciated. The place was packed so they must be doing something right.
