This is a lovely little station in North Wales, and much like many other North Wales stations, the beautiful Station House, which in this case is these wide and beautiful thick old style chimneys. It is actually known as one of the best stations in the whole of the UK because it's so pretty. Only one train comes through here an hour, but it's absolutely gorgeous, with a sculpture on the outside and a cute bridge and of course the beautiful white Station House. So all in all it's one of the best examples of a North Wales station, and almost feels like a nice welcoming home rather than just a station. It has a smaller building on the other side which looks a lot like the bigger one. And that's it.

In 2008 Flint station won a "best station in the UK" award. That really doesn't say much for the…read morerest of the stations in the UK. Actually it isn't particularly bad, it has a very pleasant indoor waiting room which must the best (and warmest) waiting room at any station along the North Wales coast. It also has a ticket office. But that's about it, there's no cafe for one thing, although the station is located in the town centre so you can quite easily pop across to Subway or Tesco express for food and drink. Perhaps the "best in the UK" prize was awarded for something this station offers that is worth celebrating, it offers an easy escape from Flint!

Not to be confused with Klandidknow, which is the answer to the question of whether the Klan knew…read morethey were not Christians but basically the Devil's minions. Yes, the Klan-did-know. This is the busiest station in North Wales, and one of the reasons for that is because this is where you would change trains if you wanted to go to Llandudno, which is one of the most beautiful cities, hence the name of this station. LJ also provides trains into other parts of Wales other than going along the coast. So for this reason it's in a great location and gets a lot of traffic. However the station itself isn't as beautiful as a lot of the others in North Wales, partly because it's here to serve a purpose more than it is to look pretty, and is nowhere near town. I still really like it, though I've used this station on so many occasions now that I'm a bit bored of it, and I'm sure I will continue to use it and appreciate it in the future.

Llandudno Junction is situated on the Chester-Holyhead railway line, and is the junction for the…read morebranches northwards to Llandudno and south on the Conwy Valley line to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The original station opened in 1858 as the junction for Llandudno, and became the junction for the Conwy Valley line in 1863 (initially to Llanrwst, later extended to Blaenau Ffestiniog). The station was rebuilt in substantially enlarged form in 1897, but rationalised in 1968. Today the station has a mixture of through services to Llandudno, Bangor and Holyhead, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Chester, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and London Euston. It has a small refreshment room, ticket office, toilets, car park and is also served by local buses with a long bus shelter at the front. Passenger usage in 2010-11 was just over 300,000 a year.

It's not often that you can say something good about British public transport, but this new…read morestation, opened in 2006, is one such place. Built to replace the former Allerton and Garston stations, the new station provides an interchange between Merseyrail's Northern Line, running from Hunt's Cross to Southport, with the Liverpool-Warrington-Manchester and Liverpool-Runcorn-Crewe lines, as well as providing a major bus interchange for Liverpool Airport and other local services, and parking for 240 cars (already fully used) and secure storage for motor-cycles and bicycles. The station is built on the sort of scale and quality we're not used to in Britain: the main building is bright and spacious, with a ticket office (for both bus and train services) and three disabled accessible toilets (token-operated, available from staff for free). The toilets are amazing, and talk to you while you are using them, telling you all about their features! The electronic timetable displays give details of bus and train departures, as well as flight arrivals and departures from the airport. The building itself is environmentally sensitive, with a rainwater harvesting system, geothermal heat-pumps for heating and photovoltaic cells to generate electricity. There are no shop units in the station yet, nor a buffet facility, though these are apparently planned. The station is fully accessible, with lots of lifts. My only gripe with the facilities is that there is no heated waiting room on the platform - it can get pretty chilly on a windy February day! The Northern line operates a 15-minute interval service on weekdays, half-hourly on Sunday. The Liverpool-Manchester service operates every 30 minutes, and that to Crewe and Birmingham every hour. Buses run to the airport and Liverpool City Centre every ten minutes. Unfortunately, neither the trains to London nor Norwich stop at the station - in the former case, frustratingly, because the platforms are too short. But overall, this is a real asset for south Liverpool, and is currently used by over 5,000 passengers a day.

Once you've been to Liverpool South Parkway, most will surely agree that it is more than just a…read moretrain station. It's a bus station, taxi-pick-up and drop-off point, free car park for rail users, refreshment stop and bicycle park; the list is exhaustive I know! On top of all that, with fast and frequent bus links to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, it's also a great place to start your holiday, all housed in an award winning, environmentally friendly building. If that's not enough, on Mondays to Fridays, it is believed that nearly 300 trains call there every day. This a top transport station in Liverpool. If you haven't used the station before, I would suggest taking a look inside and see how good Liverpool South Parkway really is.

This is a cute little station that is bigger than you'd expect, and is right along fast tracks that go to Llandudno and places like that. It's funny to see that the Welsh name for this station is something that is romantic and means something in modern slang. It's a well sheltered and very typically Northern rail station, despite not having the signature smokestacks that a lot of the stations in these parts do have. It used to have them until quite recently, and was gorgeous, but they redesigned it and that took a little bit of the charm away from the amazing station.

Colwyn Bay railway station lies on the London-Holyhead railway line and has direct links to amongst…read moreother places Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, Chester and Crewe (in addition to London and Holyhead). There are two platforms, platform 1 which is nearest the entrance is for trains heading west and platform 2 is for trains heading east. This isn't a station where you'll have to spend any time searching for the right platform. The station is located in the town centre and has it's own pay and display carpark. Facilities are somewhat basic. At the entrance is a manned ticket office and also a ticket machine. This machine comes in handy when there's an OAP at the counter buying a return to Inverness via Bournemouth (I don't know how they always manage to arrive sixty seconds before I do!). There is sometimes an issue with ticket machines in that they can't offer advice which means passengers may unnecessarily purchase an expensive peak time ticket when they could have bought a cheaper off peak ticket. This isn't a problem in Colwyn Bay as most trains, at least all the ones I've ever caught, seem to be classed as off peak regardless of what time of day you travel. Platform 1 has a small enclosed waiting room and also ladies and gents toilets which I've never needed to use so I can't comment on their cleanliness. Platform 2 in contrast just has a few benches, if you're heading east and don't wait to sit outdoors you'll need head back over the footbridge and wait across the tracks. There is a room on platform 2 that may once have been a waiting room but judging by the grime on the windows it hasn't been opened for decades. Catering facilities comprise a vending machine in the corner of the ticket office but as the station is in the town centre there are cafes, takeaways and convenience stores within a few minutes walk.

New Brighton Station is just up the hill from the New Brighton Promenade. This is that station you…read morewill need to access the New Brighton Promenade and seaside attractions, and Fort Perch Rock. From Liverpool, you will need to get a train on the Wirral line from any of the Liverpool stations. You will take the New Brighton train all the way to the last stop. The journey takes a little over 20 minutes from Liverpool. The town of New Brighton is a charming little seaside destination, once a bustling holiday resort in the late 1800's and into the 1900. Although many people tend to think of the town as dead and boring now, there are actually a lot of fun things to do in the summer months, down by the water. Along the promenade you will find ice cream shops, sweet shops, a bowling alley and laser tag place, the Floral Pavilion, local pubs, and miles of sandy beaches when the tide is out. The New Brighton train station has public restrooms that are free to use, and also has a small café next door in case you need a cuppa before setting off home.
