Yet another section of Portages Hike & Bike Trails, this particular section has an interesting history @ the very end of the trail. If you start your journey from Vaughn Road, you can see where nature has carved out large sections of earth & see beautiful ledges peeking out of the soil.
Unlike the less visually appealing section that starts near the rubber factory, you are surrounded by woods & farms on either side...and if you have a appreciation for trains/local history; then you'll enjoy walking the trail as it used to be part of the railway that ran through Mantua. Although the entire trail is part of the rails, there is a large plaque at the end of the trail (going towards Garrettsville) that explains the sad but inspiring history that caused a terrible train wreck so many years ago.
This section is also well shaded and smooth, you could easily push a stroller or pull a wagon. It is also great for walking dogs that have behavioral issues as it is not well used & relatively quiet. read more
