Maple Leaf Farms is about an hours drive south of my home in Northern New Jersey. The farm has 135 acres and is located on US 9 south. They have a country store, an indoor green house filled with annuals, perennials, tropical and indoor plants and vegetables. Outdoors they offer trees, shrubs and other ornamental plants. The quality and prices can not be matched. I made a list of threes that I wished to purchase and drove my truck down to Maple Leaf Farms. I first saw Maple Leaf Farm advertized on television and then found their website. The website is efficiently organized listing their plants both by scientific and common name. Their website also has PDF files derived from Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experimental Station publications. These files give directions as to "How to plant Trees and Shrubs", that come in balled, burlap, containers or bare root. These PDF files were very help since my main objective was to purchase: Redbud, Japanese Maple and Dogwood trees. There are also PDF files on topics like pest control, lawn care, water gardens and a host of other topics. I also picked up some annual flower flats ($9.99), perennials (3 for $39.99) in quart containers and hanging baskets ($5.99-$13.99). Purchased petunias this past Monday in hanging baskets. They were all bone dry and wilted but I was told they will perk up soon after a drenching watering. Today is Saturday and I have faithfully kept them watered and they look horrible. FINAL SALE. No returns. Never had this problem at Gasko. read more

We have been shopping here for the last 17 years. The last few years tho have not been pleasant as far as customer service and workers assisting us in the field with purchases. Today, was the day that I decided I will never go there again. We went around 11am, on a Monday. It was not busy at all. We walked out to the "yard" searching for a few bushes. There was only 1 worker that I saw, standing by the sliding door, on her phone. I waited until she was off the phone to ask her for some guidance to find a particular bush. If anyone knows how big the yard is here you'll understand why I needed help. Well. this woman, black hair chin length and wearing glasses told me "you need to ask someone over by the bushes". I explained to her that there was absoulutely no one in the field, and that I had just walked all around looking for someone. Instead of seeing what she could for me, or help me find someone, she told me "Well, you know B is for Busy, I guess everyone is busy". And she walked away. I left the area and went to the register and spoke to a "manager" who looked around 12 years old. No apology, no offer of assistance and his response was, "they must be busy out there". I'm an avid gardener and visit the many garden stores available to me in Central Jersey. My trip to Maple Leaf Farms yesterday was so disappointing. Although the country store has beautifully crafted items (where I purchased several items) the plant quality was horrendous. Most everything was starving to be watered, getting leggy and or dying. What was supposed to be a relaxing morning picking out some flowers for my garden, turned into a waste of time looking for some plants to buy. The prices are great, but I'd rather pay a little more for something healthy and happy. I won't be going back. read more

Can you give zero stars? "Disappointing Experience Due to Poor Management and Lack of Accommodation!!" We visited Maple Leaf Farms for their holiday train ride with our two daughters. We arrived at 4:30 PM, knowing the train ride was scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM, and expected a reasonably organized experience. After waiting in line for over an hour and fifteen minutes, a staff member informed us that it would be at least another hour wait from where we were standing. We were told this delay was due to one woman attempting to accommodate and rearrange groups ahead of us. Unfortunately, this was handled very poorly, making the line significantly less efficient and causing repeated stoppages rather than steady movement. There were no clear updates or realistic time estimates until we had already waited an excessive amount of time. One of my daughters has special circumstances that make standing for long periods in crowded environments extremely difficult. When I explained this to staff and asked whether any accommodation could be made, I was told that they do not accommodate special needs in that way. We did everything we could to make the situation manageable--taking turns purchasing items from the store to keep the children occupied and fed--but once we were told we would need to wait at least another hour, we had no choice but to leave. When we politely requested a refund, it was refused. We then planned to return the following weekend, but our family came down with the flu. Even after explaining these circumstances and again requesting a refund, it was refused a second time. This was not a matter of impatience. It was the result of poor event and line management, combined with a complete lack of flexibility, accommodation, or empathy. For a family-oriented holiday event, this experience was deeply disappointing. I would not recommend this experience to families with young children or anyone who may require accommodations or cannot stand in long, crowded lines without clear communication and effective organization. There are so many family, friendly places that you can go to!! Just not here! read more

My last review of 2022 and it's for a fun Christmas activity my family did. Maple Leaf Farms really puts you in the Christmas spirit as you walk through their cute winter window displays and end at Santa Claus. My kids had a BLAST walking through the displays, pointing at all the different animatronics and posing at a cute little "bridge" where "snow" fell down all around them. As you walk through the displays you will notice that some of them are dated, but that's the point. It gives an old school Christmas vibe (ala Christmas Caverns from back in the day). When you get to the end of the window displays you meet up with Santa Claus. I really like their set up for meeting Santa. He is standing in a chimney set up as if he is on top of a house. I appreciate this because my son is at the age where he refuses to sit on Santa's lap but he happily spoke to him and posed in front of the chimney with Santa. It was great! He was also a very legit looking Santa. Very friendly and kind to all the kids. After that, we took a little train ride around the farm. It was a cute old timey looking train. My kids sat in the caboose with their cousins and had fun looking at all the different decorated hay bales. They even have a playground area too which we must visit when it gets warmer out. The price to walk through the window display was $12 for adults and $10 for children. To ride the train it was $5 per person. It became a bit of a pricey outing but I would certainly do it again next year because the kids had a great time. Pro tip: buy the apple cinnamon donuts! They were super warm, fresh, and delicious. Me and my wife purchased plants and bushes to be delivered pick them out at the farm and they got to the house. They switched the ones that we bought for dead looking plants and were told no exchanges or returns what the 3 for 30 dollars $ boxwoods. When they deliver them, they look like seedlings don't bother this place is a scam. Anyone who doesn't stand behind their products it's for a reason. They know what they sell is gonna die used to be much better. We'll never go back places not run like it used to be. Wish I would've read the yelp reviews before I went there. read more

Bad experience at Maple Leaf Farms in Manalapan Went to There to get Goose egg stones. They sell by the ton. Had to hire a worker with a dump truck . He got 2 tons which wasn't enough our landscaping project. He complained that he didn't get a full ton and was mixed with dirt. I went back to buy more and mentioned what my worker said. They told me that's how they get it from suppler. They wouldn't do anything about it. For seven years we have bought many trees and flowers. Complained to Dante after getting 2 tons more that were also bad. He called the worker that was filling the dump truck and asked how much was left. The worker said about 1 ton but it was almost all gone so Dante told me that we could get the rest whatever was left so I paid for more. A new worker was sent to fill the truck. He only gave us 3/4 of a scoop and there is still some left. And he refused to give us the rest. He said I should speak to Dante about it because he was being filmed and was afraid he'd lose his job. So I went back and spoke to Dante and he gave me a hard time. He wanted me to pay for another ton. I said you're not a man of your word and what is a man who doesn't keep his word. He yelled and he tells me you have to get the F out of my store. he said that more than once. I was shocked! I'm a 70 year old man who has a heart condition and was not going to allow this guy to give me a heart attack. I said to him I will report you to consumer affairs. I told him it'll be my pleasure to leave and you'll never see me in the store again. I went to Brock Farms and got three more tons of a much better quality stone and got a full amount. Had a great time here. We actually left battleview to come here because the kids were so bored. It was $24 per person no outside food or drinks allowed in. The have a small area to order food and drinks. There is gem mining, yellow duck races, hay rides, corn shooting, bull riding, pig racing, corn maze, little petal go carts. My wife and I went and purchased over $1000 in trees to get delivered from Maple Leaf. This review is to highlight the EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING fact that they do not stand behind their service when they missed a tree on the ticket. Not only were they unwilling to work with us (we even offered to come back with our receipt and pay for the plant if they would waive the delivery fee). We had a nice time here, found out about it from an eye catching sign at C Casola farm. We went just to see the bull riding, but there was also some good live music and treats. The place would be amazing for small children as most of the area is play stations. I really enjoyed the corn maze and there is also a huge store with lawn ornaments, home decorations, and tons of plants. read more

Used to be my go to place for plants & trees. Extremely disappointed in my experience today and may not return. For the passed few years we've come here to get a beautiful Christmas tree. As we frequent Maple Leaf, we know the rules that dogs are not allowed in the store nor the greenhouse area. However, whenever we've gotten a Christmas tree, they've allowed our pup to walk with us as we picked one out. This afternoon we pulled up, walked in and was greeted by a friendly young man. Seconds later, an older gentleman put his hand out and stopped us from walking. Said "no dogs no dogs" meanwhile there was another dog walking around the area. When we pointed that out to him, he just continued "no dogs no dogs" pointing at the gate for us to leave. I guess only certain dogs/ owners can have that liberty. To the old Spanish man with the green hat on, if you're going to work at a Christmas tree farm, get in the holiday spirit you miserable, nasty person. So disappointed in Maple Leaf. There was a variety of fun activities to participate it, places to explore and shows to watch. Spent the day there with my family with the intent to pumpkin pick but as we are walking toward the patch, we are told "THE PATCH WAS CLOSED" we were extremely disappointed, we were informed the patch usually closes around 4:30 but there were no signs or verbal communication that warned us of this criteria. We absolutely would've made it to the patch before 4:30 pm to pick our pumpkins if we were warned because that was the main goal of the day, therefore we unfortunately left empty handed. Two employees responded to our family about the patch being closed, one employee rudely stated it was closed, the other kindly apologized for the misfortune and recommended visiting the store for the pumpkins. Despite coming for the patch experience, we were willing to settle, however, we were then told by staff at the store that they were closed. Other customers complained of the same situation of not knowing of the patch closing early. In the end, WARNING pick your pumpkins before 4:30! read more

My husband and I came here to get some plants. We were really impressed with the selection. We saw some plants that we don't usually see. The only downside to here is the organization. A lot of the vegetable plants are mislabeled and there isn't enough overall signage for areas which can make it hard to find what you are looking for. We also didn't know the prices for vegetable plants and had to ask around. I have been going here since they opened and have spent a lot of money here. Definitely some pros and definitely some cons: Pros: they take credit cards unlike some nurseries in the area, they have an abundance of plants at any given time, good parking, and good location. Their outside staff is very helpful. Their fall and Christmas activities are great for kids. Cons: they say there is a discount for cash but prices on items already reflect a cash discount so there is actually a penalty for using a credit card and not a "cash discount". A cash discount would imply you pay less than what is listed in items. Also, about half of the staff inside are not friendly and are a bit condescending when they talk to customers. Furthermore, their pricing is not clear. They will have the wrong stickers on items and some areas don't have signs saying what the price is, so you get to the cashier and it's a total guess what you're spending. The fall festivities they have are great for kids but crazy expensive for what it is. Lastly, their prices are fair for the most part on plants, but other nurseries offer the same pricing, but give larger plants for that same price. I feel as if their prices have stayed the same since they opened, but their plant size (thus maturity of the plants) has decreased. My overall thoughts: if you have a lot to buy for a landscape project, this probably isn't your best choice. If you want to get a few things or flowers, they're fine, but don't expect a friendly atmosphere. read more

I would never purchase anything from this store again. The owner is the rudest 'businessman' I've ever dealt with. I spent $5500 on threes and bushes. The workers loaded my truck and missed few bushes that we had listed on our receipt. After all the owner's son told us that we still have to pay for it (even if was paid). The owner came over and started to scream at us and almost fought my husband! He called us names and act very unprofessional. We told him to to unload the truck and counted again. He kept being impatient, impolite and nasty. At the end it came out that we were right. The owner walked away without saying 'sorry' or 'thank you'. Was driving by and decided to stop. It's not what I think of when I think of a country market. There were some cute things but being we don't have a house, couldn't really buy anything. Looked around a bit but a little disappointed. Did buy some rainbow popcorn because we had never seen that, but disappointed because when popped, it's all white. When I think of market, I think of food and stuff like that, now maybe it's changed because of covid but I'll go back again. One thing, there is a $15 min for using a charge. I came here because of the "insane" ads. We got a lot of half dead looking stuff. I was weary to buy some dill because it looked like it was dying. The associate there assured me it would perk up as soon as it was replanted. Its my only plant that has died this Summer so I kind of doubt that. I honestly was so pissed I wanted to go to try to exchange it but they were out and the place was so crowded and with such long lines I didn't even feel safe there carrying out my petty trying to return a dill plant any longer. We came here with some friends for some fall fun with little kids. We decided to watch the rodeo show. The host (also the owner) would invite kids to come up for some games and activities in between the show so our kids volunteered. This man has no business working with children. He was rude and mean to children. These kids aren't trying out for something or even looking for a prize. They just want to have fun and parents want to take cute pictures and memories. He made more than one kid walk away in tears humiliated. He would disqualify them for not riding a stick horse correctly or tell them to leave. We're talking children 3-8 years old just looking to have fun. After the show, I approached him and told him that it wasn't nice of him to treat people's kids this way. Rather than apologize, he was belligerent and told me more than once he "had other things to take care of". Why put on a show for kids if you don't like kids or can't work with them? People spend good money to spend an afternoon here. It's sad that Maple Leaf Farms would have these guys do their shows. It ruined our day and I am sure others' as well. Never again. read more

I needed to buy a 4 to 5 feet tall shrubs for landscaping with a bit of privacy in front of the house. I yelped for a nearby location and Maple Leaf Farms was one of the selection. I was a bit skeptical because of the low ratings but decided to stop by anyway....hey, worse comes, there's another farm not too far down this very same road. Anyhoo, I pulled in and there were plenty of parking. I entered through the store to get to the back where all the shrubs and plant trees. There are definitely a great number of selections. They also have fruit trees like apples and pears. After speaking to an employee, I was recommended to purchase these mini evergreen shrubs that requires very low maintenance. It was the perfect height too so for two shrubs, I spent $60 plus tax. I do recommend that before you come to a farm, do as much research online. Although I eventually got the help I needed, it was difficult finding an available employee to assist. I also recommend coming here with a pickup truck especially if you plan to get big items. We had a wonderful visit to maple leaf farms seven adults and three small children. The Christmas displays interested the little ones and a visit with santa! We did the train ride which we all enjoyed. We bought fresh donuts that were terrific! The store sells so many Christmas items I wanted to have them all! Brand spanking......This garden center's first season and with bill boards popping up all over Middlesex county we decided to visit. Main building is cavernous,air conditioned and packed with every conceivable doohicky,garden knomage,cartoon animal thingamabob that one can possibly need, most being just too hokey or tasteless to ever consider decorating any garden. With a cutesy "Garden Pharmacy" section for garden chemicals,Children clothing section {Children clothing section?} and cafe selling small bites,cakes and coffee management has thought of everything.......... or have they? The adjoining state of the art green house that must take up several acres features circulation fans,auto shades and watering system but plants are for the most part small and immature perhaps because it is their first season. Surrounding acreage has a wide selection of larger shrubs,trees and outdoor plantings.pavers,large pottery and fill. Everything appears clean and well organized as it should for a new garden venture. But I see lots of omissions that perhaps they overlooked or will add in the future. Basic garden furniture: Not whole sets but basic folding,gravity and /or beach chairs/tables. BBQ/Grilling section: just seems logical to offer some grills and equipment. Garden lighting and auto watering systems. Adult gardening clothing and shoes/clogs. Pool/pond related accessories. Beer. Maple Leaf Farms will do well simply because of it's location and I expect it's still a work in progress but it strikes me as a very feminine establishment from the plants,flowers to the choice of appointments, product mix and merchandising, it all speaks to the/Grandmother/woman/girl of the family with little to entertain or hold that attention of males.....other than the parking,a running car and whatever is further down Route 9. read more

Went to Maple Leaf Farms after hitting two other local nurseries where nobody was available to help us. I was just thrilled with the top notch customer service at Maple Leaf Farms. Jose took his time to explain about the different plants we were interested in and even helped us determine how many we would need. I mean, who does this these days? Afterwards, Anthony assisted with our purchase and while we checked out with friendly cashiers inside, he took our plants to the side so that we could pull our car right up to the gate. He then carefully helped put them in our car. This was a wonderful experience and I plan on going there for all my nursery needs. read more
