Background: After retiring from the military and while traveling overseas last year, I found the perfect home on Zillow. My initial issues included: 1) not being from the SE Iowa area, 2) not knowing anyone in the area either, 3) not having purchased a home previously with a VA loan, and 4) having reservations with "dual representation" from the listing agent. My realtor friends (from other states) highly recommended I find a local agent to represent my interests, so I began a diligent and thorough review of all agents I could find in the Burlington-Davenport region (and all points in between). This search led me to Dustina Fenton's reviews. (I would like to wholeheartedly thank all previous clients who provided reviews; you were the driving force for me reaching out to Dustina.) Immediately she put my anxiety at ease and helped step me through each waypoint of the homeowning process. She was an advocate for me regarding issues I did not even anticipate. We told the driver we wanted to keep the dumpster for 2 weeks even tho we paid for one (cash) upfront. Today, Wednesday, I called Mike to confirm we would be able to keep the dumpster another week. Mike said he already rented the dumpster but he could give us a 14-yard dumpster for less money. He then said they would pick up the dumpster at 12:00 on Friday but when I said we didn't get it until 3:00 he said they have to have time to dump it and get it to the next client. They are a new company and trying to make a name for themselves in Burlington but if they continue with this practice they won't be in business for long. I understand they make more money renting it out weekly but we told them we wanted it for 2 weeks. We flip houses but we will never use them again or recommend them.

I always felt like I was the boss and every decision was my own. We discussed my options while he educated and offered me his advice, but never told me what I needed to do -- he left this up to me to decide and encouraged me to take my time with my decisions. I received multiple estimates but my gut told me to go with GFR. I asked Bub to stop by once more after I had cleared out my basement so that he could do one more walk through and us finalize the project. Once finalized, lucky for us, his crew was able to come the very next day due to finishing up a job nearby! This was a blessing because we had one concerning section of a wall that needed to be addressed as soon as possible. I trusted that his crew would be more experienced than other competitors and represent Bub's code of ethics -- which they sure did! They arrived prepared and ready to work hard every day. They demonstrated respect and did a great job of tuckpointing cracked brickwork outside my home, reinforcing shearing with mortar and installing 12 wall beams in my basement. When I made any additional requests, they were quick to do them without hesitation. I was very pleased with their work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond. Bub stopped by on day 1 to check the progress on the job and stopped by a second time when the job was completed. He made it a priority that I was completely satisfied before accepting payment.
