We came in recommended by our rigger to have a forestay replaced, but found he had made no reservations. We were surprised at how accommodating they were to our needs and the staff were very friendly. They found a great place for us to dock and were very helpful with their local knowledge. The marine basin is clean and well protected, a little unnerving to pull into with a 26 foot beam catamaran, but it is easier than it looks. We even saw a baby manatee that stayed around for hours. West Marine is right next door and Publix is 1.5 miles down the road, with several good restaurants nearby. The pricing is quite reasonable. We highly recommend them and would come again if boat repairs are needed. read more

This is the best boat yard we have ever used. I would give them 10 stars if I could. It only took a handful of days waiting to get our boat in the yard. The price was very, very reasonable and the folks there are professional, accommodating, courteous, and knowledgeable. We had the boatyard do the bottom paint and they did a great job for a good price. My husband was able to do a lot of the work to re-power our Gemini catamaran with help from one of the mechanics. We stayed in their comfy "love shack" since you cannot stay on your boat while work is being done. We greatly appreciated the love shack since finding a hotel last minute in Marathon is about impossible, even if you could afford the nightly rate. I definitely recommend this yard and will use them whenever we are back In Marathon and need their service. read more

CROOKS! These guys quoted me just under 3k for bottom job and paint. Then I get a bill for 10k and almost blew a gasket! My mechanic sent me pictures of the crap job they did where they painted over my new lights and didn't even sand first. So my mechanic asked them to do the job over. And then they did a crap job AGAIN so he asked them to do it over again. Basically Marathon Boat Yard charged me 3x as much money as they quoted me because they couldn't get it right the first two times! Get EVERYTHING in writing with these F's and then make sure your mechanic documents Everything like mine did. They hold your boat hostage here until you pay their RIDICULOUS bill as they knew my vessel was going in the water that day. I negotiated my bill down to $7500 but shame on you JERKOFFS! Will NEVER use you dirtbags again and neither will my mechanic. read more

My wife and I have had our vintage sailboat seasonally stored and serviced at MBY for 12 years. They have done 3 bottom paint renewals, hauled and repaired a broken prop shaft. Over the years they Installed new thru hulls, a sonar transducer and Victor in their diesel shop rebuilt a hp injector pump. We have confidently stored our beloved boat thru many hurricanes with out incident. Bruce and Sherry and staff are always courteous and given timely scheduling in the Keys crazy season, get us in and out of the water when we need to be sailing or leaving the Keys. We are not locals. We live in Colorado when not in the Bahamas or on a hook. But we will be back to Marathon Boatyard next time we need service or storage. read more

My experience with mbymc was one of the worst experiences I have had working with a service company. Blatant misinformation about when they would start and evaluation and, begin the necessary repair process to flush a cooling system on my boat. After sitting on shore from 1/13/17 until today 2/9/17, with no service work performed after repeated promises...lies.. I am going there today to try and get them to put my boat in the water so I can have it towed to another marina.....they got Approximately $3000.00 out of me for nothing ...they should be happy. Marathon Boatyard Marine Center's staff and owners are very pleasant, and talk a good game. In reality, I found them to be disingenuous with predatory business practices. The service manager, Tommy, out and out lied to me about them having a particular tool to align my generator's clutch. Parts were to be ordered for overnight delivery, and they weren't (I called Northern Lights and checked). A part was left to have a thread re-tapped that day, and the 15 minute job was done 2 days later, after I stood there with one of the owners, Sherrie, in tow. When the tech finally came to the boat, he had his tools in a plastic grocery bag, and no alignment tool. He didn't even know what he was supposed to be doing, thinking he was working on the propulsion engine. I sent him away, and did the repairs myself. $300 in parts ended up costing close to $600, as I was charged an hour of labor, shop supplies, shipping, etc. I did a debriefing with Sherrie, the owner, who graciously admitted "a communication failure", but insisted that " over 90% of theirtheir customers were very satisfied", but made no offer to ameliorate my situation. Her efforts seemed to be directed toward placating me instead. I could give you the long story about calls not returned, and written estimates not produced as promised, as well as the arrogant young service manager hanging up on me, but I hope that this will give you the picture. read more

Should have known better than to take my boat into a repair facility that required my credit card to make an appointment. Explained to service manager that I thought my starter was bad so he said that he would "get the engine running" than evaluate if any additional work would be required to get it running well", the next thing I received an estimate that it needed a starter and two new batteries along with the labor charges to evaluate the engine. I approved the estimate that was Premium charges but figured they were a certified Yamaha dealer that also sold my hull manufacturer so it would be worth it. The next information I received was an email that my card had been charged. I emailed them back to confirm the boat was ready, they confirmed. I drove three hours the next day and picked up the boat, launched it and was exactly the same as when I brought it to them except I paid them, it had two new batteries and a new starter. Called the service manager who said to bring it back in. Then they sent me two more estimates for additional work, one was for a new key switch and one for additional evaluation charges to run the engine ($380). Gee it would have been nice to know about the key switch before I drove three hours to pick the boat up, launch and return and gee it would have been nice if they had run the engine like they promised the first time ( they mechanic, who worked on the boat told me he had instructions to change the starter only), gee I wish I could charge them for my wasted time, gee I told them about the starter what did I pay them to evaluate... if my credit card worked??? What a business....if your not related or a local take your business else where.
