We were in one of the single cabins, which had a small bathroom and a main room with a small table and chairs, two double beds and a kitchenette. Having access to a couple of burners, a miniature fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and some dishes made eating easier. The larger cabins have full kitchens. There are also three charcoal barbecues available for use. The cabins were clean and well kept - nothing fancy, but I felt comfortable staying there and the service was excellent. The ladies working in the office were always happy to recommend a restaurant, show us how to set up the BBQ or make a call for us. There are lots of picnic tables and plenty of room for kids to run around, with a huge field behind the cabins. With so much room, it might have been nice if there had been a few more amenities available - maybe some soccer nets, or a badminton net or a small playground or something. The location here is great - located in Cheticamp, you can see the water (it's across the street - but a cliff, no beach) and walk or drive to most amenities. A small coffee place is down the street, the golf course is right next door, and Cheticamp has a pharmacy, NSLC, grocery store and several restaurants. There are also horse stables, kayaking, whale watching tours and other fun family activities nearby. It's a beautiful spot with lots of hikes and other things to do, and I easily could have stayed longer than three days and enjoyed myself. If you're looking for walkable access to the beach this place isn't for you (it's a bit of a drive, which can be frustrating) but it's clean, affordable and met my basic needs.

Our kids did not sleep and the next day of our trip was ruined. The property looks neglected. Pool ceiling peeling and falling. Walls yellowing. Metal rusting. Gym with a decaying mirror and an ice machine sitting open. Windows fogged and taped instead of repaired. Breakfast was picked clean more than an hour before closing on two mornings and only restocked after we asked. Staff dismissive. Property falling apart. Hard no.

We were welcome by Donna (staff) and there's nothing welcoming about it. She hurriedly talks about the hotel info but it's more of a mundane task for her instead of being an enjoyable part of her job. Downsides: Accommodation -We were placed in a room that is dated, dingy and smells moldy/musty. -Floors have several stains in them (see pic) and the carpeted floors were uneven and makes squeaking/creaking noises when you walk on it. -We were informed that we have a waterfront view which is partly true. When you're in the lower level rooms, your view will be obstructed by trees /shrubs so it is very unlikely you will see a full view of the Bras d'Or Lake. -Outlet plugs were limited and situated in very hard to reach places. If you didn't bring a power bank, your electronic devices will be nowhere close to you. -Washroom is very small and taking a shower is very unpleasant since it's slower to drain and basically you're standing in water. Dining -Place is very remote, not a lot of places to dine and no shops close by. It will take you more than 20 mins to walk to the nearest restaurant and 5 to 10 mins by car. -That left you with no choice but to dine in their restaurant called McCurdy Dining Room that has limited choice of menus. Food is mediocre and very expensive for a rural place. Seafood chowder is watered down, not a lot of seafood in it and a little bit spicy. Their Seafood Pasta is bland and has more noodles than sauce/seafood. Same goes with their Chicken Parmesan Pasta. You also have to wait for a long time for your food as they're understaff and trying to accommodate more customers that they can handle. -Breakfast was included when we booked our room. It's a buffet style and you get the basic breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Upside: Nothing good about this hotel and wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy!

We were lucky enough to stay at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. What a wonderful location. Overlooking the the lake, and each room has a small patio and chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The folks at this lodge were so friendly and helpful as well. East coast friendliness is definitely evident here! :) Beds were comfy and rooms were well appointed. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet room. Ample closet space. 2 comfy chairs to watch a flat panel tv and free wifi. This hotel also has a great dining room and is not far from downtown Baddeck and other attractions like the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

There was a ton of us piling into this resort for the weekend of the 30th-1st and although there was slight disorganization in terms of attempting to book, we were in the end more than accommodated. The assistant manager running this resort does not seem to sleep; she fills all roles, at all times of day and night. Gorgeous cottages facing Margaree harbour as well with adirondack chairs facing the ocean. Absolutely picturesque. My absolute favorite part about this resort (and the thing that will get me back) was that we were not nickle and dimed. 11 of us easily fit into 2 cottages and there was never a mention of the typical: Extra $30/person/night etc etc. Ie- two nights in these cottages worked out to $70/person! A great place to head for a couples weekend what with the close proximity to beach, golf and spa. Love this place! By the way, note the lobster pound. Lobster was so fresh that the fisherman were coming in to refill the tank almost as fast as we were ordering!

The other guests we met were great. We appreciated the fridge space for our stuff, and being able to make and eat our supper in the house, which others were also doing. Perfect for visiting the area and great value. It was nice not having rooms stuffed with bric a brac or so many decorations there are no free surfaces to put your stuff. My travelling companion has ben to a few, and she was keen to show me how a B&B outperformed a motel, especially like the one we had stayed in the night before in Baddeck, Cape Breton. This is a no-frills B&B. As in, I made a reservation on the phone, and got the room number. When we arrived, there was a table with registration cards to fill out. No owner in sight. We actually mistook another guest for the owner, as she was the only person around! There was a sheet of paper with the needed instructions, the wifi password, and the owners cell number. So he seemed reachable if needed. We found our room, mostly thanks to the numbers being on the keys we found on the dresser in the room. The keys had little lights attached to them, which was a nice touch. We used them coming back from the beach that night, after dark. We went out for dinner, and must've missed the owner at that time. We chatted to another few guests in the common room that night, and discovered that breakfast was not served at any particular time, as it was a cereal and milk affair that could b found in the fridge. Tea and fruit were in a bowl, and on the counter nearby. The good is that the beds were comfortable and clean, the water was hot, and the towels were pristine. Looks like renovations occurred in our bathroom, the tiles were lovely. The B&B is also very close to the beach with a nice boardwalk, and also very close to a golf course. The next morning, we departed after helping ourselves to the cereal and tea, never having seen the owner. This B&B is a good place if you are looking for basic accommodation with no frills, and hot breakfast isn't a big deal to you. The price was comparable to an old motel we had stayed at the night before in the area, tho the decor here was much better! The owner was cheerful on the phone, and other guest reported seeing him, so perhaps we were just unlucky. No other guests reported any hot breakfast, however.

They asked me if anyone had responded to my questions about food allergies regarding the restaurant. I replied that they had not but didn't get a response then either so we did not eat there. The rooms have a beautiful view of the lake and they are very clean with comfortable beds. However, our room had an odor, I couldn't tell if it was from animal or if it were just stale. I used a lot of Febreze. It is also very dated like 80s/90s. Very convenient to local food and attractions. My suggestions: Tom's Pizza, Rose's Smash Burgers, the Alexander Graham Bell museum and my favorite, the Baddeck Gathering Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-Lee, it's a Breton music hall)

We had a pleasant stay in a great room with a beautiful view of the Bras D'Or (lake.) The restaurant had the same great view and very good food. We then had a personal disaster when our car suffered a catastrophic failure while we were 700 miles from home. The motel owners Cat and Everett and the rest of the staff were angels and went to heroic lengths to save us. Gert and the front desk sent her brother-in-law Richard to help get our car off the road and make sure that we were OK. Everett picked us up and brought us back to the motel. Cat arranged a tow to a repair shop (alas the car could not be fixed.) Cat arranged a rental car. Cat arranged our flights. Everett drove us 45 minutes to the rental car. They then saved us a huge one-way fee by retrieving the rental car from the airport 2 hours away. I have traveled a lot and have seen many things. I have never seen this type of kindness. Gert, Margaret, and Marlene at the front desk were amazingly friendly and helpful. Our waitresses Erica and Bonnie were very friendly and great at their jobs. Our maid Joy was great and kept the room spotless. I did not know any of these people until a few days ago, yet I feel like they are family. I have never written a review like this, but wanted people to know about these wonderful people at the Cabot Trail Motel. The weather was not great and our car died, but this was an unbelievable stay.

While I've been told that the Domes are great, I don't recommend the Red Dragon Mongolian Yurt…read more To say that my group was underwhelmed, would be a drastic understatement. More accurately, we at times felt unsafe, ripped-off and as though we were being pranked due to the numerous situations in which we said, "this cannot be real."   The things within the yurt that were broken or downright laughable were numerous: * There was an overwhelming smell of chicken manure in the yurt itself and compost outside. * None of the interior or exterior doors closed. A gust of wind, wildlife, and other people were free to enter the yurt at any time during our stay at any time. * One of the beds was broken upon arrival (the vast majority of the support bars underneath the mattress were fully on the floor or only attached on one side). When we asked about it, we were told, "you probably won't be charge for it." * None of the beds were the painted Mongolian bed that's pictured on booking sites. * Bins covered in blankets doubled as tables. * One of the exterior doors couldn't be opened as the handle came off in our hands when we attempted to use it. * Neither bathroom lights worked. * The toilet wouldn't flush (1, 2, toilet paper or not, or holding the handle down for a while). After asking assistance and were told, "that's not my job." * We were located in what appears to be a workers site/maintenance area. It felt like we were using a yurt made for employees to stay in perhaps? There was also equipment strewn about the yurt that must have been left there by maintenance. Ex: ladder to get on the roof. Outside, were various cords, pallets, broken down machinery and other equipment. * There was garbage on the floor from previous guests. * There were no chairs outside (as there was at other, smaller yurts) so we sat on the edge of the deck. * There was a large pile of mulch outside our front door, along with garbage and boulders that I can only assume previous guests used to keep the doors from opening.   I'm quite confident that I could go on, but it's getting comical at this point.    Our belief is that your 3.9 rating on Google reflects a number of friends and family making recommendations and that the rating will continue to drop as guests experience what we did.  Highly recommend avoiding this booking.
