I believe this doctor is competent, thorough and compassionate. Took awhile for me to build up a rapport with her, but maybe it's me.

IDDMC is the place that John Muir and other providers in Contra Costa send their patients when the…read morepatient is in need of monoclonal antibodies and their phone number for that is 925-932-7124. Luckily for me (and perhaps not for IDDMC) when I was doing the research to find another clinic ICCMC's employee told me about and told me she'd send me a text about it when I told her I was driving to the doctors (which she did not do as she said she would). I found out who does this sort of treatment in CoCoCo, and the phone number was the one I was given. This discovery led me to write this review. I called right after my appointment with John Muir Medical Center Urgent Care, around 11:30. At first there is a recording stating that one has reached Infection Disease Doctors. Then I was placed on hold. When someone answered I told them what I needed, they took down my number and told me someone would get back to me. I was clear as to what I needed, what the doctor told me to get. Two plus hours later I called again. I asked when I would expect a call back and was told by the answering service they did not know. Another hour later, I called my health insurance, hoping they would have another lead for me. United Health went above and beyond to try and find another clinic. They even called this clinic where they were told that the number I gave was not correct and it did not go through. Really? I was getting phone calls from Urgent Care, the pharmacy, my mother, my work. I think they just flat out lied to my insurance company. When I finally did get a call towards the end of the day, the person on the phone said "you called a few times today, we were with patients and this was the first time we could call." Ok. I guess I am use to a doctor's office having a front staff. No mention of trying to get a hold of me earlier, my guess is this person was perhaps not the person who lied to my insurance company. (And they wonder why I called twice and then got my insurance company to call, their professionalism was off from the start.) I was told they were not doing infusions for this week as they did not have a "filter" they needed. I think I heard it right. But bottom line, they knew this when I called the first time, when I got their recording, when I got their answering service. It was too late for me to call around and find another clinic. Now, what could they have done? How about put that on your initial recording SINCE THIS PHONE NUMBER IS FOR THAT? How about you allow your answering service to tell me no appointments were being booked? How about just returing your phone calls for SUCH A TIME SENSITIVE TREATMENT within an hour? Really, IDDMC could have made other choices but instead they chose to lie to my insurance company, give me attitude about calling every two hours, and then did not follow through with the number to another clinic when I was told they would. They cost me a day in my quest to get this treatment. I finally did find Total Infusions in Oakland. They had an amazing online tool to schedule an appointment, they called me immediately after I scheduled on to tell me they a same day cancellation. They were so professional when I went in. Service was excellent. Overall, I would not trust IDDMC to do anything for me. This reflects poorly on John Muir too. (Just noticed I did not post this when it happened in mid-April, I blame COVID Brain, but it still stands. Thank you Yelp for reminding me.)

They did not need to stay after hours, or to be as kind and caring as they were. I am so thankful there are still people like this in the world. The office itself is clean and organized, and my infusion was painless, and Karen is so good at what she does- I am left with no bruises at the injection sites. Thank you ladies for fitting me in and taking care of me.

What an idiot. who let this man be a doctor? Stubborn willful ignorance is the best way to describe…read morehis approach. He should educate himself, but to call him an "expert" by any means is utterly laughable. He even brought up the notion that there are these large groups and organizations in this very area (and maybe a reason 1/4 cases all in bay area, I don't know I'm not the infectious disease specialist) that are advocating for a condition that he still refuses to believe is real. The level of disillusion is just baffling, and his knowledge about the subject, that he is literally by definition supposed to be the expert of, is simply wrong and outdated. I felt like I was talking to a flat earthier who was also somehow an engineer at Nasa. i would really choose any other doctor if you actually want any help. Also he should go tell the millions of people in this country suffering from chronic Lyme because of bad doctoes that wont help, that chronic Lyme doesn't exist. That after 10 days of treatment they're cured, despite the tremendous amount of scientific data coming out in just the past 10 years saying the exact opposite. Just baffling.

OMG! Another horrible experience with Ella Gupta. My mother and I were both transferred to her in…read more2022 after our beloved Dr. Vincent retired. We transferred almost immediately to another primary care doctor due to her absolute lack of interpersonal skills and lack of giving a second thought to her patients. Well, this week I had the unfortunate opportunity of having her as the on call doctor and contacting me and giving me BAD MEDICAL ADVICE. I had blood tests done Tuesday. They came in in Tuesday evening, after 10 PM. I was not feeling well and was sound asleep in bed and the phone rang. I let it go to voicemail. It rang again, SUTTER. i thought that was odd, so I answered it in bed. Ella Gupta was on call and one of my blood test results said 'critical level low'. It was potassium at 3. She left a huge long message which I kept and am writing to her manager. Hopefully they act on this complaint. Bottom line was she told me I needed to get up and eat a banana. I told her did not have one. Take electrolytes. ???? Gatorade. I told her did not have that. Then she went through all the bad things that happens if potassium is low enough and that includes heart stopping and cramps and other things. She said this was nothing to mess with and I should go to ER. I said sleeping soundly and no. She said this is a 'low threshold' of feeling badly and if I felt badly in the AM go to ER. Needless to say, I wanted to go back to sleep but could not as anxiety took over. What if? I felt very badly in the AM, as I had a flu shot and acute sinus infection and LOW POTASSIUM so I got an UBER and went to North Bay ER. Had I not been on Medicare as just 65 it would have cost me $6000. I don't know what I will be charged but I WENT to the ER as she frightened me. She has a medical degree from somewhere - so I should take into account she was calling me at 11 PM? At the ER they told me no way should I have come, just take a supplement pill. While I was in the ER, the primary care doctor called and also was shocked I went to the ER with that level of potassium, and said a supplement was all that was needed. Wow. Dr. Gupta then had her office call me the next afternoon, when I was also in bed trying to SLEEP as she kept me up all night, and say I needed to get tests and see her and set that up. I told them no way and she was mistaken. I specifically told her nurse to NEVER CONTACT ME AGAIN. I already had the follow up set up with primary and the ER doctor prescribed the supplement. Dr. Gupta is completely TONE DEAF to patients. She has no idea that health care costs money. She just wants everyone to go to the ER, get all the tests imaginable. She has NO IDEA we have to pay for this. Dr. Gupta continues to have no idea how to talk to human beings. She has no human feelings. Talking to her is like talking to a rock. (I apologize to all rocks as they do not deserve the comparison) If you want good or even just OK medical care do not choose Ella Gupta. Anyone else ANYWHERE will most likely be far superior.

I chose Dr. Gupta because her bio said she treats the whole person and she really listens. I keep going back because I am waiting for the listening part, which does not happen. She likes to take lots of tests for what I do not know, since she never tells me the results. I am left trying to figure out what they mean. I end up asking 1 of my specialized doctors, who have then told me I needed to do or that, but Dr. Gupta never even bothered to do anything. I find out that I am almost a level 4 chronic kidney deasease and the I need to be seeing a kidney doctor, I did not find that out from Dr. Gupta, but from a PA. Who said I needed to make an appointment with Dr. Gupta. I said no way, that I would be looking for another doctor. This diagnosis was in a blood test, which was not followed up on by Dr. Gupta. I have had more then enough of this doctor that treats the whole person. I am really trying to not think this has anything to do with being a black woman, but I have heard from a few other black women who have had Dr. Gupta and they have also said that they have had similar experiences. Hopefully in my journey to find a new primary care doctor, I will have learned from this experience and not put up with this kind of treatment again. That the doctor I choose should be someone I'm comfortable with and not someone I tolerate and know that I have to depend on my specialized doctors to actually read test results.
