Our adoption process was left frustrated, double-billed, and ultimately left out in the cold. Law firm changed us for a "paperwork prep" time that obviously needed more prep since the lawyer showed up to court without all the papers that we gave her. A 1/2 day of leave and babysitter fees gone in the wind. Did she ever appologize? NOPE! Was the prep charge refunded?..NOPE! Filed Termination Order with obvious errors. Birth dates of children in question were wrong. If you do the math on the errors, the children would have been born less than within the same 6 months of the year, to make matters worse, we were told we would be charged again for the correction.....WHO LEFT THE GATE OPEN? Deleted correspondences, messages and charges for service paperwork off of the mycase website. Why delete this information unless you have something to hide? These are just 3 specific examples of our frustration. After we scheduled a date to sit down with the actual attorney for Wednesday the 1st, and not with the 2 assistants, we were told we weren't over-charged and that they weren't serving us anymore, all this over "MY CASE" website, not a phone call or in a personal discussion. How's that for service people? So, do you think I'm a fictional person making this stuff up? Lets wait for a response from them to see? Going through custody battle and to be displayed to the public as if I've abused my children and Edward's knew that was a lie. Those attorneys who handled my case left due to unacceptable behavior and mismanagement of clients. I spoke to those attorneys that left, and they told me some disturbing things. Those attorneys told me that my case was ignored, and they have fabricated audits against their own clients and are willing to testify against them when I file my complaint to the NC Bar. Those same attorneys were confused as to why they didn't even offer to give me a full refund. One of the attorneys told me "I knew this day would come," when I asked them to support my complaint against them. I strongly recommend staying away from Attorneys Hogan and Edwards. Even their named partner, Attorney Blue left the law office. I currently have a complaint against them with the NC Bar. If you look up disciplinary actions against them you will see Attorney Hogan on file for misconduct regarding mismanagement of client money. Be aware and seek counsel elsewhere. I post this in hopes to save others from the heart ache and time they are likely to experience. Most people hire an attorney at the lowest point in their lives to seek relief and help when they need it most. Handing over a large sum of money that may have taken you years to save up is not easy. When you do hand your life savings over to an attorney you expect their best effort. Mr. Edward's provides lip service and no follow through. He cant even keep his own house in order. Please don't make the same mistake I did. You deserve better, especially when you are at the worst place in your life seeking competent help. I hope this post helps others to avoid the stress, anxiety, and disappointment I experienced. They will be sued for legal malpractice as well. If you experienced something similar, get a hold of me and let's join up to sue them together. Update - Looks like Antwoine Edwards was disciplined by the NCBAR as well for deception, dishonesty, misrepresentation, and falsification. NCBAR 14G0857. So both partners are on the NCBAR radar for bad conduct.

The representation was disorganized, inconsistent, and, in my opinion, highly unprofessional considering the amount of money charged. Throughout the process, there appeared to be little organization or preparation. Meetings often involved confusion about facts that had already been discussed multiple times, missing information, and repeated errors. Important documents and details seemed poorly managed, and my mother was frequently left doing work that counsel should have been handling, including gathering records, organizing evidence, and contacting witnesses herself. I personally witnessed inaccurate statements being made, shifting explanations, and repeated contradictions regarding billing, filings, and case handling. We repeatedly requested an itemized accounting explaining nearly $30,000 in legal fees, yet meaningful explanations were never provided. Separate legal matters were also combined together in billing. At one point, my mother was instructed to obtain bank records for an account she repeatedly explained she did not have, only for Mr. Puryear to later admit the request was made in error. She was also instructed to move forward with actions involving estate property before ownership and title issues had even been properly verified, which later resulted in additional legal complications and expenses. Despite being provided with extensive supporting evidence, records, and witness information, many critical issues were never meaningfully challenged. Important inconsistencies in the opposing side's allegations were overlooked, and concerns raised by our family were often dismissed or ignored. What was most alarming was the lack of accountability and professionalism when concerns were raised. After repeated requests to speak directly with senior leadership regarding these issues, the firm ultimately withdrew from representation. Based on what I personally witnessed throughout this process, I would not recommend Davis Puryear or this representation to families dealing with sensitive estate or litigation matters.
