If I could I would also give this school a zero. First of all this place is a horrible environment. Some of the kids are out of control, don't know how to behave, and are terrible influences. Do you know why?: It's because countless parents who have bad children send their kids here thinking it will change them because its a religious school, NEWSFLASH it doesn't, their kids are the ones to change students for the worse. A few of the teachers are also horrible. There is this one particular teacher, I shan't say her name but is a horrible teacher. She complains of having migraines everyday and takes her frustration out on the kids despite being a teacher. She has blatant favoritism and ignores the ones causing trouble and puts the blame on the ones doing nothing. Multiple parents have complained about her and nothing has been done to remove her. Another horrible teacher here teaches TK/Kinder. She yells at your kids, pitches them, and belittles them. She only cares about the cheerleaders which she doesn't even take care of. When you see how she treats those little kids you will be disgusted. She throws little kids food away if they don't eat fast enough for her, a little reminder, these kids are 5-6 years old. Once I heard her bad mouthing kids because their parents forgot to pay for their midterm fee. If YOU DON'T LIKE KIDS WHY ARE YOU TEACHING THEM!!!! This brings me to the next topic:the principal. This principal has got to be one of the most mean spirited women I've met. She only cares about money, not the kids. Also the tuition is not that bad, what's bad is the fact you're charged for everything, and I mean everything. Didn't do the raffle you pay, didn't volunteer pay. They make you pay for everything that's not your fault. They DO NOT value education enough. Why are these kids worrying about art and PTO snacks when they should be thinking about their work. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with thinking about other things as a kid but why am I hearing these kids talk about having enough money for snack sales and then having bad grades, it's ridiculous. They barely challenge these kids. When I talk to other parents that take their kids to other Catholic schools I always hear about these good programs the school has:Scholarships, Clubs, Sports, Internships, this school barely has either. When I pulled my kid out I was surprised to see how behind she was compared to other kids from different schools. Their so called social studies is nonsense! My child in the 3rd grade, when I asked her simple things about social studies she didn't even know! I asked her if it was in her book and she said it wasn't?! In all seriousness don't send your kids here if you prioritize their education and your well-being. Send them to schools in Torrance or Redondo, not here. read more

This school is absolutely amazing!!! I can't tell you how much my children are being positively impacted by the school. The teachers, administration, and parents are amazing. The school makes you feel like you are apart of the family. I enjoy the school and can't wait to return back when COVID-19 is over. The school is doing a phenomenal job with the zoom and online instruction and I feel like my children are still getting a dynamic education. The teachers keep my children engaged and they seem to be having fun. A great key component of the school is the fact that they promote and support parent involvement. I know some parents might look at as a negative or added responsibility, but it truly isn't. Good School. Safe environment. Sister school of Serra High. Tuition is slightly higher but not by much. My child was able to transfer over with her archdiocese scholarship and that helped with payments. On a good note they do give a break down of what you are expected to pay in the handbook the beginning of the year to avoid surprises. This year they have new teachers who are great young and serious about technology. So this adds another pus in my book. The best thing about the school thus far is they have added Spanish to the curriculum for grades 3-8. There is no other private school who has an actual Spanish class and teacher. So my daughter will not enter high school in Spanish 1. She is learning conversational and proper grammar like the freshman in high school. I grew to love this school and it gets better every year. No major complaints that would make me want to remove my child. Teachers are friendly, principal guards the students as if they are her own, secured campus, 2 computer labs (primary and upper grades are seperated), touch screen boards in every classroom, and smaller kids have a new play ground. I've been meaning to write a review for quite some time now. My children have been here for the past few years, trying to get them removed and relocated to a better school district. One that focuses on what they need and helps with what they lack. (Everything costs!! Tutoring, after school/ homework help, lunch, no IEP assistance, if your 1min late to school it's 5/10$ per kid, btw the kid's attendance nvr matched up! Not sure how they arrived different times, or absent different days) One that's not just about money and lacks the morale and values that they claim to possess! Don't get me wrong the teachers that my children have had and I've come across have all been great, personality wise, very friendly and helpful when they can be! (Two of which did not return this year) But that principal Lino, very rude or disrespectful when you challenge her! She used to speak, not now! She is just caught up in her feelings. If it's an issue that will jeopardize the school recieving money, she will not help you! But she'll do and say whatever to get the money! Additionally, she straight out told me she just wasn't going to respond to my email, after I approached her about a non-response. I stated "if [she] was incapable of providing me with documentation needed (also court ordered) , may I please have a contact of someone who could, her supervisor." Father Sang wasn't any better, these people seem nice, but don't challenge their income! No help! Even if kids are struggling... Two years ago, my children's tuition payment was behind and she asked for the children to be removed that day! No finals, no assistance, no questions asked! (Sidebar: " I was pregnant, and she let me go to my appointment first, then come back to get them.) Providing a letter of the amount owed to them, and notice for children not to return. If you're so faith filled and a "strong catholic education" is the most important, why couldn't the kids finish?! (Btw dad pays tuition, court ordered, as long as they attend) **I've reached out to parents who did not return with their children after first year, and asked the POV, only to recieve the same feedback. So, it's not personal.. business is business, and I work in customer service and have been a pre-k teacher, so customer service and children are main priority! read more

This school is HORRIBLE if you want your child to have a competitive education in life. Low cost tuition so I suppose you get what you pay for, but the location was convenient at the time. Wasn't worth jeopardizing my child's education just to save a few bucks or being conveniently located. 3rd graders got 1 (sometimes 2) sheet(s) of homework a day and the work was below grade level. I spoke to the teacher, Mr. Gray (nice guy and understanding) but he was new to the school and just followed the curriculum which I confirmed with the principal. Now she can be rude and condescending when you ask questions about the curriculum of the school and plans for the future. BASICALLY DON'T WANT THE BEST FOR YOUR CHILD, YOU'LL GET A VERBAL SMACK DOWN FROM HER, but if you are as quiet as a mouse, drop your kid off, don't care about the education or learning curve, do your service hours and write that check no questions asked you are the ideal parent and it's the perfect match! I made the easy decision not to return after Christmas break. Do you know the office had the audacity to call me around mid January requesting January's tuition payment????? Come again?!?! It was then that I told the office (intentionally mentioning no names) that she should have been calling me to check on my babies health, making sure she was Ok or if she was even returning to finish out the school year. This school is below sub-par. I didn't realize this until the current pandemic as I started to research other schools for my daughter. Maria Regina school lacks what most schools offer. the principal also does seem money-hungry vs. caring for the students, parents, staff, and the community as a whole. She is extremely unprofessional and lacks communication skills to over-see a school. The schools lacks educational resources that many Private institutions provide as well. As a parent, I feel ashamed about the negative review Maria Regina School has received because some facts there stated are not true. First of all, MRS has received the WCEA and WASC Accreditation which is ONLY granted to schools that meet the primary criteria of being "a trustworthy institution of learning" (check this website for how they rank the public institutions and to understand how Maria Regina School got accredited, please and inform yourself: http://www.acswasc.org/about_why.htm). Secondly, the amounts posted are incorrect. Registration is NOT $400 as stated; it is $350 and it is a one time payment -this ensures that your child will be enrolled at Maria Regina School. Tuition is the same for all grades and depends on amount of children attending; however, if you are a registered parishioner at Maria Regina Church, you do get a "parishioner rate," plus there are other options of financial aid like Catholic scholarships which help with up to $2000 in funds free for all families who qualify and apply within a time limit. Fundraising is NOT $2000!!! Including the $800 scrip, which Ashely M. failed to do, altogether is only $1,540 throughout the year! Scrip is not only gift cards, it is purchasing at places that any family may go for necessary things (clothes, food, etc). What family you don't know that may attend a party on any given weekend and needs to buy a gift? Use the scrip points throughout the year and that is a way to get rid of this obligation. It's really simple. If we were to calculate the amount of money we spend on food alone, in 5 months we would have spent triple the amount of $800 required. Besides, if you choose to pay the entire scrip amount, you wouldn't pay the $800 -the option if you choose to BUY OUT at the beginning of the year is only $400 -which drops all fundraising obligation to $1140! Service hours is 35 yes, but throughout the year! There are 36 weeks of school, so, maybe one hour a week will satisfy this requirement, plus during carnival time, you can knock out 8-12 hours on a weekend! Thirdly, I am happy with the way the principal runs the school. She ensures that every teacher meets the qualifications to teach and seeks to challenge each student to develop their best abilities. I am proud and happy I have chosen Maria Regina as the school for my child. Not only is he doing better in his grade when compared to public schools, but I am more than satisfied with the curriculum and sports activities offered. Each teacher at MRS focuses on dedication aside from thriving to to be attentive to each individual student. I am happy I have made the best choice in my life; after checking out other Catholic schools (St. Joseph and St. Francis), Maria Regina was the one that met my expectations academically and spiritually. I am grateful for the school, for the teachers, and for the education my child is getting. No money could ever reward the outcome and the educational career of my child -it is after all an investment for his future. I wish parents would really consider checking this school out! if it was possible i would not give this school a one star. Education wise really good my daughter in kindergarten has 4 pages of homework plus 10 questions online its to much for a 5 year old. This shoool is so money hungry that they charge you for ANYTHING literally. really for a gown and cap for a kindergarten $65.00 really? Wow unbelievable. and then for raffles you have to participate not if you want you have to or else you pay for them. Plus for graduation the teacher is going to give them a gift but you as a parent HAVE to pay does that even make sense?really? I have to strongly disagree with some previous comments. I have my son graduating this year from MRS. The staff starting with the principal have been a great support system to me and my son. Fees are fees and when you enroll you are informed of ALL that you are responsible for. Everyone has their own opinion, which i respect. I have had a positive experience with MRS The principal knows all the kids names, this allows for a better and closer supervision of them. I can walk in at any time and speak to her regarding my child. There will always be different characters and personalities as there is everywhere. read more

This is a good school that works for our family. I am a current parent that has high educational and ethical standards. The school works well for my son. The level of work is challenging, although homework takes a long time to complete. My son is in the first grade and his teacher is amazing, considerate to his needs and very experienced. I do not have a problem with payment like the other reviewers on here because i do automatic deduction. The principal is nice and stern, which is what my son and the school needs. The school is a true Christian family atmosphere with a strong PTA. The older kids are still kid-like, which means they are not fast, rude, and disrespectful. This school is bad in so many ways . Starting with the Principal she does not care about her students only herself and money . One day in a meeting she tried to belittle me and talk down to me like I was a child for simply asking her a question. Then she bluntly lies to my face and made up some rule that was not listed in the handbook she provided us on parent night . Also many of the teaches don't have teaching credentials to even be teachers . I sent my daughter here and with in a month I removed her . The teacher of my daughters calss was a nice lady but she had no educational background that gave her the right to even be a teacher . The teacher was ok but its not worth the cost . Also the school is very deceiving about cost and fundraising . You are mandated to fundraise about 2,000 a year on top of what tuition and uniforms cost . Now this would be fine if the school was modern and up to date but its not . Over all I was very disappointed in this school and wish It would have worked out but It didn't . No I would not recommend you send your children to this school . My Family has a long history with this school (my younger brother now 25 years old attended MRS from 3rd-8th grade) and it's conveniently located close to home! The staff at Maria Regina are professional and have high expectations of each student. They are very hands on and show great concern with your child's education and personal development. Love this school! The first time I walked in this school I felt like it was the right place for my daughter. She has learned so much in just a short period of time. The office staff is super friendly and willing to give you as much detail as you ask for. The principal is very approachable and you can pretty much ask any questions you might have. I have seen a lot of schools in the search for the right one for my daughter and this is the best so far. The class sizes are very small which gives time for the teacher to give each child the attention they need. Hopefully they will add more extra curricular activities in the future, but that would be my only complaint at this time. read more

As a new parent of Maria Regina Catholic School (MRS), i am greatly concerned about the negative information being placed on the internet. More importantly, the attack appears to be personal rather than factual; especially regarding financial obligations. MRS discloses financial responsibilities at the onset of new student testing and again once the child/ren is accepted into the school community. Additionally, an annual MRS manual inclusive of all school policies, procedures, and obligations is disseminated to families for their reference at anytime throughout the school year. While all parents have the right to choose a school environment that best suits the needs of their child/ren the teaching process begins at home with their primary caregivers...us (parents). It is embarrassing to read a review containing misspelled words and false data. My child is in kindergarten and enjoys being at MRS. The school is not perfect and in reality no place is. i am pleased with the willingness of staff to address any concerns and am slowly developing an understanding of how vital parent/teacher involvement is to creating a "whole" child. My husband and i have researched several schools and found MRS mirrors the morals and values we have set within our home. As our son begins his educational journey, MRS has been a GREAT choice for us! read more
