I had high hopes for this place and I was disappointed to be honest. Maybe my expectations were to high and the food couldn't meet those high expectations. But I was expecting really good Italian food and from what I saw from my friends and my dish, I simply didn't see this. I ordered the All Arrabiata because I like spicy pasta. The portion was quite small and wasn't very impressed with the overall dish itself. It was kind of bland and didn't have the taste I wanted when I ordered. Annabatterie offers a variety of baked goods as well as small eats, coffee and tea, and even some alcoholic beverages. They also offer patrons a nice outdoor area, weather permitting. It is nice finding places like this in Mainz's neustadt and not littered with tourists in the old city. Either way, this place would make a killing. But it just fits better on a quiet street in the heart of a residential area. I am often in Mainz and this is my go-to place. I hope you get a chance to check it out.

The menu is very vegan friendly - there are vegan options for sandwiches and baked goods, and there's oat milk for drinks. I got a Blumenkohl panini, a Mandelkuchen, and a Chai Latte. I was a fan of the panini, the smashed cauliflower in was actually very flavourful with curry-esque spices. No complaints on the latte. The Mandelkuchen fell short of my expectations, I thought it was on the dry side, although the strong almond flavour was nice. If I had been able to see a cross section of this before I ordered, I would've gotten something else - the cake hadn't been cut into yet when I ordered. The other cake slices looked better. Everything is priced reasonably - my total was about €14. It's the kind of place I'd probably go to all the time if I lived here.

I had already marked this place off as a place to grab something to eat, however it quickly turned out that they don't do breakfast - it is basically a coffee shop that has some cakes but that is about it. The other problem is that it is located on the fringes of the city. Still, it is a nice cafe, and there is a really cool church nearby as well. Oh, and the staff, and coffee, were nice as well.

We were however a little disappointed that the salad my colleague ordered could not be upgraded in size to a main dish and on top was already quite expensive as a starter. The waiter was a little brusque, but not unfriendly.
