I've been spending a lot of time here since the start of Covid and just realized my review needed…read morean update. The park has seen many improvements over the past few years. They've built a new playground near the pavilion that is pretty awesome, they've added more benches along the trails and they've done some upgrades to the ball field. The ball field still needs improvement and the road needs to have the craters filled so hopefully the town will take that on this spring. It's a peaceful place to walk my pup on my lunch hour to recharge my batteries.

Theres also a fitness trail-this is a year-round park so it's good for cross country skiing as well. Lots of people use this to walk the dogs. Of course it's a carry in carry out park. The trails are fairly easy and short several bridges but there's benches next to the streams so you can sit and reflect. There's two entrances to the park. The also hold summer concerts here.

Even nearly 18 months after it opened, it still was graffiti free and looking nice. Plus, it overlooked the river and TWO different sets of railroad tracks. Seeing three trains go by while were were playing on it certainly boosted this railfan's review! (And, unbelievably, my cousin who was on one of the Amtrak trains and lives in NYC spotted us train watching as she rolled by!) We traveled over from the Corning Preserve to Quackenbush square, walked around a bit, and came back. Our toddler liked it when we kicked a rubber ball along the walkway (hot tip: if you kick it and he doesn't get it, you better run because it will roll down the hill!) There wasn't a lot of shade but it was overcast that day so it worked out. It isn't a huge "park" but it sure beats a barely used highway ramp which is what it used to be. The fact that you can get a nice, different perspective of the downtown area makes it a fun place to explore for a little while. And it is free. And... it is near trains. Don't wake me... I must be dreaming.

A bunch of flat fields people meet at for events and flag football etc. Not tons of shade but enough to keep it enjoyable. Bring water and you will be sure to enjoy!!! :) There has been some concern with suspicious people lurking by parks that's worth mentioning. One lady said she was with the paper and was taking pictures of kids and evaded once questioned. Another man was recently banned for lurking and aggression at the park.

And yes, there is plenty of grass to walk around with your dog while enjoying the warm breezes. Sure, you could spend time looking into the river and watching the boats slowly go by. Kids probably enjoy the playground area while their parents can find something to do at the tables. There is even a restaurant on premises, though I personally have never seen it open. No, while all of those are wonderful reasons to come here I can't say that is why I like this park. Instead, I love it because it is right next to the train tracks and I can watch the trains go by while spending quality time with my family in a nice setting. There is a connecting bridge that allows you to look onto the trains from above (warning... they are loud!) but you can also enjoy the park for what it is while the trains rush by on the other side of the protective fence. It is a great place to spend time. I only wish it was closer to where I live.

If you find yourself in Saratoga for any reason at all (horses, golf, family, passing through,…read moreetc.), do yourself a favor and spend some time in the park. I've actually been to Saratoga several times before, and this was my first visit to the park, and it is BY FAR my favorite thing in Saratoga. The grounds are beautiful, and surprisingly large. The large buildings that house the Roosevelt Spas and more are well-kept, with the areas around them landscaped and looking like a beautiful college campus. There are also miles of hiking trails, equestrian trails, fishing, biking, disc golf, boating, and more. We weren't quite prepared, but walking around the park was enough. The tall trees, the running water...I just needed a little nature in my life. There is a reason that the Saratoga Springs are known far and wide, and the weirdly salty, effervescent water purportedly has a ton of beneficial properties. It also creates strange and wonderful rock formations, and you'll come across a few spigots where you can taste the water, and see how it affects the rock around it. I highly recommend doing a bit of exploring.

When I was a child my father would take the family to his company's Clam Steam outing at Krause's…read moreon the Mohawk River. We did that for many years. Then as adults, my wife and I would occasionally dine at Krause's restaurant which had been added to their outdoor pavilion complex. We always looked forward to ordering and enjoying the Clam Steam Basket. Each basket contained some chicken parts, potato, sausage, corn on the cob, and steamed clams. At some point, I learned there was another place called Lanthier's Grove that also booked clam steams/bakes in a seasonal pavilion setting. Until this week, I'd never had the opportunity to have been invited to an event there. Along comes my 60th High School reunion and Lanthier's is identified as the planned location. This was as good as any to have a reason to experience Lanthier's. The setup looks like it's capable of accommodating maybe a thousand people. A good amount of grassland parking and long rows of picnic-like tables under side-less pavilions. I'm sure that any event organizer is given ample opportunity to customize the food offerings for their gathering. Ours had hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage & peppers, chicken wings, clam chowder, potato salad, coleslaw, steamed clams, and a raw clam bar. The raw clam bar and the beverage bar each had their own respective pavilion a short walk from the main pavilion with the food and tables. A separate soda shack was located between the raw clam bar and the beverage bar and was more popular with the local honeybees than with the event attendees. My initial disappointment was that we were not receiving the traditional "steam basket" of food that I've known all these years. But signs above the food counter identifying the various stations at which each food was being served, and friendly staff at those stations, made the self-service ordering and pickup of your food prompt and convenient. I believe I may have missed an announcement when the steamed clams became available as I was trying to alternate the sipping of my soda with the honeybees. About an hour later I did hear the announcement that there were still some steamed clams available at the shacks behind the food pavilion. I promptly went there to get a dozen. I was surprised to be informed that I would need to pay $11. But like I said earlier, that's apparently the plan our event organizers agreed to. My steamed clams were overdone. Most likely because I missed the first announcement when they became available. My wife said there were plenty of clams in the chowder, but it had no flavor. The sausage & pepper sandwich I had was very good. The raw clams were clean, but you shouldn't be surprised if you occasionally get a shell chip in your slurp. Overall, the rekindling of high school friendships made for a very enjoyable experience at Lanthier's.

The facilities are very basic, with the shop/chandlery seemingly randomly stocked, and the amenities (restrooms, shower) rather grim. The docks are in bad shape and quite rickety, mostly close inshore. That said, the staff have an outstanding reputation for doing the basics of keeping a boat in shape and a boat owner happy. I have heard two different stories of the staff doing rescue-tows and refusing even to be tipped for slip-owners. The boat yard is right next to the slips and the ramp (there is no winch, note) so if you have a small boat, want to go cheap, and convenient, this seems like a good option. The river location is between locks 7 and 8, more or less halfway between Freeman's Bridge and the Rexford Bridge.
