They now have a couple of tables outside the front and the back opens on to the cutest modern garden, all charcoal wood and purple flowers. It's such a lovely little space that we doubled our intended order to soak up the ambience for a little longer. The guy who served us we really nice and seemed quite knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I was curious about a drink which he explained and sold to me which was prosecco and some kind of lemoncello that was related to bethnal green somehow!?!? Regardless of the provenance, it was very tasty and a nice change to the blackcurrant/ raspberry liqueurs that normally accompany bubbles. Hubby had a very local lager that was possibly the best larger I've tasted, light and smooth but kicking at 5.2%!!!! It's not trendy in a hipster way but a little piece of a more sophisticated life tucked the back street of leyton. We have decided that it would be a great place to take the parents when they visit so whoever you are, i think you'll like this place.

The front of the shop is small but has a large selection of great looking wines, and actually a good selection of craft beer too - some common favourites but also a few I hadn't seen anywhere before. You can also takeaway wine in a refillable bottle for £6 which is cheap & cheerful out of the box wine, there's something about filling up a refillable bottle and taking it home which somehow feels so much more fun than just buying a bottle that can be drunk now or saved for years! Who knows, maybe it's the obligation of having to drink it then and there which makes it feel somehow special - ,even when it's the cheapest wine in the shop! The back then is the wine bar, which is exactly that in that there's a bar and they serve wine. But it's not a wine bar in the trendy glitzy sense that usually comes to mind! You can also get coffee of course, I tried a croissant which was ok but not fresh. From the fridge at the front there's a few deli things like cheese and meat, and happily also a few beers so you can get them cold! Overall it's a great addition to the area and brilliant that they're so adventurous with what's essentially a little shop on a high street!

The 'cheese maturing cellar' stocks every cheese you could possibly imagine and stores them at various levels of smelliness depending on your own personal tastes. It is truly a homage to fromage! For the sweet tooth's out there La Fromagerie also has a sizeable selection of cakes and pastries. By the shop window there are a couple of tables which are perfect for sitting down with a cup of tea and choosing one of these delicious treats to nibble on. Or if you're feeling extra extravagant then try one of their Valrhona hot chocolates- though beware, these are only for true chocoholics and pack a a fairly bitter punch. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a really high quality deli. The food isn't cheap but the quality is fantastic.

What I love about this shop is that the staff is helpful and friendly and offers lots of suggestions when you are buying cheese, Caroline really knows her stuff. Whenever I go into the shop I feel a bit overwhelmed because I'm never exactly sure what I want, I love that I can tell them what I like and they have several selections instantly in mind. When I say that La Fromagerie is more than a cheese shop it means they sell other things. You can pick up a dessert or order a cappuccino. They even have a few tables to sit and enjoy a drink and if you love the smell of cheese you will certainly enjoy that. The shop isn't very big and it doesn't take many people before it starts to feel crowded. Despite that, it's a warm environment and I don't mind wiggling around a few folks as I happily exit the shop with my purchases.
