No reason to round up... I gave the young man a $5 bill for a $3.98 item. Him: "Do you want to round it up?" Me: "No." Him: "I don't have change." Me: "You only owe me a dollar." Him: "I don't have any dollars.. or change." Me: "Why?" Him: "I would have to go to the back and get some....." Me: "Why would you do this (to customers)?" Silence. More silence. The cashier is the same way, they ask if you have coupons (usually). It does suck when a customer is like "Oh, I forgot I can get one more item!" (another coupon regular thing) then they mad dash for whatever it is. Listen....be prepared. It's rude to the rest of the customers standing in line. She was friendly as was the other front desk staff. When you walk into the lobby you're hit with the smell of moth balls mixed with chlorine....mmmm. The Christmas decor is still up in June, and the lobby furniture is dilapidated furniture that looks like it was picked up from a doctor's office. They serve sugary cereals and nothing but cheap pastries (probably from a bag of doughnuts and served individually), white bread (no whole grain or whole wheat), waffles, and some yogurt. The eggs, bacon, and sausage was ice cold. And the coffee tasted like ass. This is the continental breakfast. Walk across the street for Casey's pizza instead. My bed was comfortable enough. I slept well each night. I brought my own blankets and I'm glad as the blankets provided are pretty thin. Air conditioning didn't work the best, so thin blankets probably would've been fine. We booked a king suite which is 2 rooms. You couldn't feel AC much from the other room. In the second room there's a pull out couch to sleep on. The mattress was ripped, torn, and stained. Good thing we brought our own blankets. I also booked a standard double queen room for my adult children. Their room didn't have a working fridge or lamp. The food they put in the fridge went bad. We did enjoy our in room jacuzzi. Good thing we had that as they tore out the hot tub in the swimming area. I don't think their website tells you that. So be aware. The swimming pool still works and can be used. If you're looking for a place to crash while passing through and there's no where else to stay, this place is fine. But the Hampton Inn across the street is the same price and WAY better! (My in-law's stayed there and I checked it out during the same trip). I wouldn't stay here again.

I can't believe I forgot to review this place after our stay in late August. In my defense, we were…read morein the process of moving cross country. Originally we were going to stay in a Motel 6 in Des Moines due to pets and a tight budget. However, after arriving to possible drug deals in progress, we moved on to a Holiday Inn Express, which was booked but arranged for us to stay at another Holiday Inn Express in a neighboring town. The cost was reasonable for the quality of accommodations, and we were relieved they allowed our small travelling circus to stay when most non-Motel 6s have a 1 or 2 dog limit. We had a good night's rest in a safe, clean room and awoke to a decent continental breakfast. The only dark spot was when a bunch of drunken men went screaming down the hallway at some odd hour in the morning and upset our dogs, but it wasn't an ongoing problem so I can't hold that against the hotel. If you're travelling across country or intentionally visiting the area, this is a safe, clean pet friendly place to stay. As far as I can tell, once you're past Nebraska, Motel 6 is no longer a viable option.
