This is a great business based on passion. I'm just restarting tennis and this is my first time to restring a racket. My main issue is that I got a racket with default strings that I had to realign every few shots. I arrived after getting an appointment and I didn't know what tension / setup that I needed. Rodger got 7 rackets, brought me onto the court to try the different tensions, during which, he pointed out a couple of errors I was making on my swing. He also showed me some video clips of Alcaraz, showing his swing and follow through that I wasn't doing. The 53 lb racket seemed to work best so we went with that. Great experience here with a recent restringing of a Babolat Pure Aero 98 2023. Roger is fast and the string job was perfect! He did a one-piece string job as well, which is a bit more advanced than the typical two-piece stringing I used to do when stringing my own racquets hunched over a Klippermate on a coffee table! Bonus is a label on the inside of the throat, which lists their contact information and the date & details of the stringing done. He also included a new overgrip, which I didn't need, but nice to have. Five stars. read more

I played with the same sticks since 2007 and was reluctant to upgrade, but talking with Rodger Lolley (outside the pro shop due to covid) made me realize I needed a new racquet. When Wilson no longer manufactures grommets for your model... it's time to switch. Although Rodger was enthusiastic about the Yonex EZONE 98, which is what Nick Kyrgios uses, I bought a pair of Wilson Blade 98s (16x19). Nonetheless, it he was very knowledgable and I would go back for tennis equipment. Also, reliable stringing with a quick turnaround. read more

Rodger & Linda have done the strings on my racquet a couple of times. Rodger is very knowledgeable and is super patient with beginners like me. They are also extremely fast. I had dropped my racquet off for stinging on a Saturday afternoon, by Saturday evening Rodger called me about the type of strings I wanted (hence the patience in my lack of knowledge) and by late morning the next day, my racquet was done! This place is a shining example of how a racquet stringing company should aspire to serve their customers. I had been using another stringing company which were fine but a little out of my way. My tennis buddy had mentioned Marina stringers as a closer alternative and little did I know how this seemingly innocent suggestion would change my life. I had initially called and left a message detailing my specifications and if they even carried my preferred Luxilon M2 strings. Rodger promptly called me back and informed me that he did not have these strings but offered me plenty of comparable alternatives. He told me he would be happy to have me come by and we could ascertain what might be the right fit. Little did I know upon arriving Rodger would essentially give me a mini tennis lesson. Upon arriving in this beautiful scenic oasis of tennis heaven he invited me to hit with three different racquets of various tension. I literally hit for what seemed like a half hour with his ball machine and then afterward he brought me into his office to analyze the stroke production of the greats like Federer, Safin, Joker and Nadal on his iPad. He even showed me a forehand stroke that altogether eluded me up until this point, which since implementing into my repertoire has unlocked a whole other dimension to my game. I had my doubts about another stringer in my area so based on the reviews I found here I thought I should give Marina Racquet Stringers a try even though it was out of the way for me. As a beginning player of less than a year I don't know how best to string my racket so Rodger took me out onto the court with a variety of rackets and fed me balls till he deciphered the perfect tension and string type. Wow, what dedication and care. But wait, there's more: I got an armload of technique tips, a veritable mini lesson, that really, I mean REALLY helped improve my swing. And, I might as well add the fact that I didn't want to drive out there once to drop off the racket and again to pick it up the next day so I asked Rodger if I could get while-you-wait service and we made an appointment for a time when he would be able to do that and I sat in the cool breeze of the marina while my racket was being strung on the spot for me. Oh, did I fail to mention that it is twelve dollars CHEAPER for a stringing than the other local pro shops?!!! And that he slapped on a stylish new overgrip included in the price? Or that the free underground parking nearby (you'll need directions) made parking convenient and pleasurable? We are fortunate to have Rodger Lolley as our coach, so he knows exactly what tension to use on our rackets. However, for anyone who doesn't know what specifications to provide, he will either hit with you or watch you hit on the ball machine to determine whether your racket should be strung more for power or control and at what exact tension. You can also test out various rackets from his shop and see what feels best to you. He'll answer any questions you may have about the different types of strings and what you should use based on your game. Turnaround time is fast and Lynn (his wife) and Rodger do their best to accommodate rush jobs (e.g., tournaments, vacations, etc.) when they crop up. Just note that although someone is often at the shop during the day, Rodger is often out on the courts teaching and Lynn's onsite schedule is flexible, so to ensure that you can drop off/pick up when you want to, appointments are necessary. Everyone is happy with the job they do -- they have even strung rackets of one of the WTA's top players several times when she was in Los Angeles; if that doesn't convince you to try them out, I don't know what will! Although this review site is for the racket stringing, I have to add that Rodger is a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of the game, from technique to strategy. He's a very patient teacher and can describe the same concept in different ways until it clicks in a student's mind, and he is also patient knowing that just because your brain gets it doesn't mean that the body follows suit! Although he coaches kids who are competitive in USTA, including some that have been nationally ranked, he enjoys sharing his love of the game with people of all ages and all ability levels, and what's most important to him is that people have fun. Whether you're a beginner, or thinking about trying to get back into the game, or a highly skilled player who just needs tweaking on a particular stroke or your serve -- he's a master of serves -- Rodger can help. He also has a clinic that his students (and Pearl residents) can attend on Saturday afternoon in which he'll set up drills on the ball machine or teach a particular part of the game (e.g., service returns, volleys). There are also fun social events each month during the summer for his students (past and present) and residents. If you love tennis, you owe it to yourself to give Rodger a try.
