Wow. Where do I even start? Rhonda is simply amazing. I began my tennis journey as an adult about a year ago, having only picked up a racket once before taking my very first beginner group lesson with her. Now, I'm addicted to this sport and play as much as I can -- in large part thanks to Rhonda. Having a patient, thoughtful coach makes all the difference, and Rhonda is exactly that (and more!). Her enthusiasm and support are infectious. I honestly don't know how she finds joy in watching a bunch of adult-beginners batting around green dot balls, but somehow she makes me feel like I'm playing center court at the US Open! She's incredible at building confidence, which is huge when you're learning something new at any age (but maybe especially as an adult?). Rhonda has a knack for observing you for just a few minutes, pinpointing exactly what's off in your technique, and offering small, easy-to-apply adjustments that make a huge difference. Also when it came time to purchase a REAL racket (not the dinky amazon one I brought to my first lesson), she helped recommend the specs and coordinate the purchase (invaluable because I had no idea what to ask or look for!) As an adult beginner, I was looking for a good coach that could offer solid, fundamental instruction to develop good technique and habits. Thankfully, I found Rhonda, who offers great group classes to learn the game of tennis. As I progressed through her red ball and orange ball classes, her coaching helped me improve enough to join her live ball sessions. These sessions bring together a great group of people, who look to have fun while also take part in some friendly competition. Everyone is super encouraging, which makes for an awesome environment to play with people of different skill levels. Additionally, when I wanted to invest in a good racket, Rhonda allowed me to try out a few different models of Wilson rackets during the classes. I ended up purchasing a Pro Staff through her, which was great because it came at a really good discount with all the desired specifications I wanted. Tennis is one of those sports that look extremely easy to learn but it isn't, unless you have an effective teacher. And I know that as good of a professional someone may be at something, they may not be a great teacher of others. Rhonda is a professional AND an outstanding teacher which is why she produces such quick results with me. As an adult in my 30's, I've tried a small handful of coaches and Rhonda is one of the best. She is lightning-fast-effective compared to other coaches. For instance, when I tell her what I want to achieve by the end of each lesson (like a specific tennis stroke) I can literally see and fully understand the improvements she produces in me. Her kinda quality teaching goes a long way because it sticks! The only reason I'm taking a star off is because my budget cannot afford her tennis expertise and I know that that's my own issue. Were it not for the rate she charges I would be able to continue, but at the same time I understand that her time and quality of coaching is in demand. My 9-year-old son has been taking tennis lessons from Coach Rhonda for over 2 years. She is an amazing coach, and I really appreciate the way she worked with him to teach him proper technique. To be perfectly honest, my son is not exactly the world's best athlete. In the beginning, he lacked balance, strength, and coordination -- probably the three most important things you need for tennis! He could hardly hold up a tennis racket properly, and he would often fall down doing simple agility drills. But Rhonda was super patient with him, and kept pushing his limits, stretching him to become better than he was the last week. She introduced skills (e.g. volleys, slices) that I thought would be way too advanced for him. But in time, she always managed to get him to a point of competency with everything. I can't think of a better teacher for my son. While he may not become Roger Federer, I think his time with Rhonda will allow him to play tennis (at a relatively high level) for the rest of his life. We have only taken 5 lessons with Coach Rhonda and my six year old daughter has gone from being timid and scared of the ball to hitting forehand, and volleying. I was amazed at what my daughter could do by the end of the second lesson. Coach Rhonda teaches them footwork, forehand/backhand, volleying. Wish I could rate 10 stars! I used to take tennis lessons when I was about 10 years old, but after about 12 years without playing, I finally decided to get back into it. I met with a male instructor hoping I would be able to naturally pick back up where I left off as a 10 year old, but boy was I wrong! After 50 minutes on the court working only on forehand strokes, I was more confused and discouraged in my ability than before the lesson. I left that day disappointed with myself and I wasn't looking forward to playing tennis again. After canceling my next lesson, I decided I should try another instructor before giving up on the game...SO HAPPY I did! I reached out to Rhonda through her website after seeing her on Yelp and she got back to me very quickly! We spoke on the phone to discuss my skill level, etc.. Not only is she very professional, but she has an awesome personality! I was nervous going to my first lesson with Rhonda because of how disappointing my last experience was, but turns out I had nothing to worry about! Rhonda had such a different approach - her method made sense. She explains everything so well and it just clicked for me! She couldn't believe I was a 'beginner' and I couldn't believe my improvement just from one lesson with a different instructor. The hour with Rhonda flew by! I had so much fun, I was already looking forward to our next lesson together! I've had 7 lessons with Rhonda since and now I LOVE TENNIS! I am always looking forward to my next lesson because results come fast with Rhonda! She is always extremely encouraging and positive throughout our lessons, which helps me play better and stay confident! Rhonda is an incredible adult tennis coach!!! I took 3 sessions of Adult tennis with Rhonda in Manhattan Beach. She is So positive, motivational and professional. The tennis drills and lessons she taught really improved my skills in tennis. I'm a marathon runner who loves cardio, but I wanted to change up my workout routine. Rhonda is a great tennis instructor. She was teaching some of my family members, when I joined in, making it a group of six people of varying abilities. Although I played tennis quite often years ago, I never learned proper form. Rhonda handled the six of us beautifully. She is a relaxed, professional instructor who keeps it fun while still being able to focus on teaching and encouraging improvement. It would be easy for me to continue hitting the ball by sheer luck, but she has a way of gently but convincingly getting me to want to break the bad habits that are so ingrained in my strokes and footwork. That's no easy feat! We started with hour-long classes but, that was too short. Now, our two-hour class flies by and we all see improvement in ourselves. I don't know how she does it, but Coach Rhonda is a kid-whisperer slash tennis extraordinaire. My capricious little niece (5) and nephew (12) run circles around me in every subject and hobby, but when it comes to tennis lesson with Coach Rhonda, she commands respect and attention with those under her tutelage. My 10-year-old daughter gets frustrated easily if she's not great at something, so I was thinking it's a long shot that she would even like tennis. I had hit with her a couple times and I saw her getting frustrated and wanting to give up. I suggested we try a real lesson and my daughter said she'd give it a try. I played some tennis in high school many years ago but wanted to pick it up again for some regular exercise a couple of years ago. I hate the gym!! Rhonda is an excellent and motivating instructor. Over the years, our daughter has had tennis lessons from many coaches (7 to be exact), but to this day, Rhonda stays as her favorite one - by far. It's no surprise - she's VERY attentive, goes down to kid's eye levels to talk to them, and tailors the lessons to every child's various tennis levels. Lessons are heartfelt as you'll see her jumping and stretching with the kids (vs other coaches who just feed balls), yet also comprehensive as she incorporates everything from fundamental footwork, endurance training, to the specifics. Her approach is super kid-friendly, breaking down complicated motions (such as serves) into simple easy-to-follow but skills building activities. It's cool that she shows up not only prepared, but also has homework ready if you (or your kids) are up for it. Best of all, she REALLY cares for the students to enjoy and learn tennis well, and you can feel it may it be in her talks with the kids or the handouts copied nights before the lessons.
