Saturday night, In the industry it is commonly called "wood duck night"
A night when sometimes the not so food savvy public venture out to celebrate a special occasion, dates with new found loves and Grandmas " 70 Th. birthday".
With breakfast being the new black for diners due to cheaper offerings and an ability to create larger tables which are sometimes frowned upon by egotistical restaurant euros and operators. We chose to venture out to explore what is on offer a night I usually stay home or entertain with friends due to the above mentioned allergies.
So Latrobe terrace was our chosen geographic point, Bella has liked the welcoming facade of "Marinara" with it alcoves, shrubbery lined terrace and a series of red mood lighting very popular in Vegas and The states and some restaurants who have not transitioned to the newer styles of dining in the acropolis we call BrisVegas !!!!
We had, 2 teenage femme in tow, grooved up, very passionate about life, talking, strong opinions which I find fantastic! We had to arrive early due to 2 sittings and the usual be out by such and set time, no problems we said.
We were led to a table with a size not up similar to a roulette wheel, up against a ledge of no return where if I was to get to get too creative with my arms due to me telling my life stories with much gusto would see me tumble over the edge .
Suggesting the table was unsafe we were allowed to rotate the roulette table to allow us to at least sit with out our abseiling harnesses needed.
Our attentive Waiter dressed in a mafia ensemble complete with hat but alas no violin case showed us the menu on a mobile blackboard style once again not seen for some time, a selection of garlic bread..ummm, pizza bread with assorted fresh toppings, a range of pastas of which the usual suspects , all proclaimed house made except One or three.
One of the legion is gluten free, we discussed an decided on a gluten free base with the infamous " meat lovers" a gluten free pizza bread arrived on a scripted and well worn wooden disc, topped with fresh tomato, spring onion and lashings of cheese.
The wine list needs perhaps some work, only 2 wines by the glass but thankfully upon request Don Giovanni our mob infused waiter allowed is to choose a glass of Shiraz which was quickly placed in from of us.
The menu obviously suits the area, well heeled ladies and gents arrived, large tables of broncos fan partaking in pasta rather than a $14 dollar rubber burger at Suncorp stadium and families like us all enjoying a beautiful Queensland winter evening with a steady passing by of both motorised and walking traffic.
gnocchi bolognese, spaghetti marinara, a selection of pizzas and chicken, veal and salmon making up the confidant culinary team.
The service is quick, my marinara stacked of prawns, enloped in a rich cream and tomato sauce, 2 shell oyster stand erect as 2 bookends showcasing a dish in size of which any front rower would enjoy post match to refuel the carb intake, me I do not enjoy cream with seafood, the delicate sea morsel refrain from projecting the amazing sea of which they call home, combined with lavish cheese helpings I lost all track of my destination of this dish.
Bella chose the gnocchi once again rich, plentiful but alas too large, she savoured the taste and enjoyed it immensely, thankfully Food safety issues were not adhered to and take home was allowed.
This is a destination for the large group, a quick bite to refuel but at $ 30 a pasta I find there are many more Italian offerings to choose from, but the place is packed and the locals love it, Ciao. read more
