    Truffle, mushroom and bacon pizza

This place was super busy but worth the wait. We ordered a couple pizzas that were both delicious, but I have to say the potato pizza was the star. Service was wonderful and the waiter even helped me choose a wine that I really liked.

Visiting from USA and found this place from Yelp. Amazing service & Excellent food ! Highly recommend !

Believe the hype. It's super yummy. I got the carbonara pizza that was amazing. Daughter got the deluxe margarita which had a great crust but felt pretty basic for deluxe. Still tasted great. I want to come back and try them all. We got take out and sat on the benches. Super fun evening.

    Pasta Special: $25.00 AUD

It has been a hot minute since I've experienced a restaurant that fully lived up to its immense internet hype, but Julius Pizzeria did exactly that with a high quality pasta dish that absolutely knocked my socks off. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? I'm told that Julius Pizzeria can get crowded, but I was pleased to find that upon walking in without a reservation on a Saturday afternoon, I was seated immediately at the bar. From there I wouldn't call the service particularly attentive, but I wasn't looking for attention and instead just appreciated what was classy but chic decor and a solid assembly line of people watching. My pasta came out quick after order, which was all I cared about. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $25.00 got me a good portion of the pasta special, which was a mezze maniche with pork and veal ragu, which was particularly reasonably priced given the generous exchange rate. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a sensational dish, plain and simple. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and was clearly handmade in a way that lapped up the tasty and flavorful ragu packed with all sorts of twists and turns between the two meats. I devoured this dish, and could have easily packed away a full second helping. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Absolutely brilliant. Yes. Julius lives up to the hype. Star.

Julius has a great central location, and despite a large dining area it tends to fill on weekends whenever the weather is nice. Which is most of the time. It's not cheap, but they offer some quality ingredients. The marinara deluxe pizza, a crust with ample sauce and herbs and a few very rich dollops of buffalo mozzarella, was a step up from many of the other pizzas I've tried. The crust was crispy, and the flavors fresh. I wouldn't mind going back a few times to see what else is on offer, though I'm more likely to try their sister restaurant, Beccofino, first.

Sitting perfectly on the corner of Fish Lane & Grey Street, in South Brisbane, Julius Pizzeria is possibly one of the best Italian dining experiences we've had in recent times. And while there's some familiarity with the dishes on offer, as the "little brother" of Beccofino (in Teneriffe), we would say that Julius Pizzeria may have outshone big bro this time. Julius Pizzeria has a very urban & modern feel, with exposed-brick walls & high ceilings, as well as floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of Fish Lane & the Cultural Centre. We liked that as soon as you walked in, you can see the kitchen with the hot wood-fired oven "Julius" busy at work, while the inviting bar at the other end of the room, tempts those of us who are thirsty. The atmosphere is very welcoming & relaxed, which is what you want in a modern pizzeria. The Summer Menu is absolutely on point, with Pizzas (of course!, where you can select between "Rosse" or "Bianche" bases $20.50-23.50), Starters ($16.50-19.50), Mains ($29-29.50), Sides ($10), Dessert ($10.50-13.50) & some great options for the "Bambinis" (kids $6.50 - $13). As we were here with our friends we decided that whatever we would order, we would have a bite of each other's food! The only way to dine, when with friends who love food! We had the: (1) Carpaccio di Manzo $16.50, (thinly sliced seared beef fillet with truffled pecorino & rocket leaves, (2) Capesante in Padella $16.50 (pan seared scallops with pea puree & grated bottarga), (3) The Rissotto of the day $22.50,(mushroom with peccorino) (4) The pizza of the day $22.50 (5) Cotoletta di Vitello $29 (crumbed baby veal with vine ripened tomatoes, goats cheese & basil), and (6) Pappardelle al Ragu d'Anatra $23.50 (flat ribbon pasta with a duck and tomato ragu). You know it's awesome when, your entire table is silent, in the moment, & savouring each bite. This was the case for each of the items as they came out. Having a bite here & having a taste there. There wasn't a thing we could fault with each of the dishes. The pizza was also wood-fired perfection. Absolutely wonderful. Service was excellent & if it wasn't for being full, we'd have tried dessert as well. But there's always a reason to come back. Julius Pizzeria is a must! Perfect for dining with friends, family, & it's actually quite an impressive dining space to impress a date.

    Fritelle

They don't take phone reservations, the online ones were all gone but we went early before the theatre and got a table. The tables were very close together so not a good spot for a date! We started with an Aperol spritz and then got a pizza and each, the gamberi piccanti was delicious and my husband tried the special which was pork belly and potato. The bases are traditional, thin and crispy like you get in Italy. We shared dessert which was fritelle, warm donuts filed with jam and accompanied by a rather icy ice cream. I can make better ice cream but the donuts were nice.

It's ok. Just ok. Bit of a wait and the meal servings were a little smallish, and not the greatest tasting pizza either.

Bland food. We had 3 different pizzas and they were all average. Sadly Brisbane hasn't quite grown up yet.

    Review Highlights - Julius Pizzeria

True to the maitre d's estimate, it was a short wait for the table and we were seated next to one of the windows looking out to Fish Lane.

Before popping into the hotel I was hoping to get my carb overload done right and re-energize from the depleted energy tanks. After a quick search, I found this place and walked over to it and loved it more when I realized it had a low key atmosphere starting from the walk down into the main dining hall. This place is simple, fast, and straightforward with its menu offerings as they offers pastas, pizzas, etc along with a selection of beers/ciders while offering a hipster vibe After perusing, ordered the linguine with meatballs and the parpadelle with ragu. Ordered a few beers as well which were tasty. This place does get busy during lunch time with what seems to be office workers in the CBD and it brought the atmosphere to be lively. The pastas were out in a flash and they do not skimp on portions or protein here. I feel most places in the states only offers 3 meatballs but they went all out and doubled it and the parpadelle was no joke as well. The food here was solid and while the tomato base was a bit strong, the food itself was delish. The pasta was cooked well and basically both plates were completely gone by the end of the meal. This spot is solid and offers exactly what you are looking for in a low key atmosphere just serving up good quick eats.

The restaurant is not that hard to find just follow the signs from the streets entrance and it's easy. We all needed a hearty meal and what better that pizza and pasta . The meals were a good size and quick to come out. We started with a cheesy garlic bread and a bacon and chorizo pizza to start the ball rolling. They were both good. Next was some pasta. I got fettuccine with amatriciana sauce as I love a good tomato based sauce with a bit of salami and chilli in it to spirit up a little. The pasta was cooke lovely and the sauce was good and satisfied all my cravings. The others had pizza and carbonara. All washed down with a nice bottle of red and it was a very good hearty meal with loads of flavor.

These days call for random eat-out weeknights, and since Jo was craving Italian, we decided on Pane e Vino. I've been here before and found it quite mediocre for what it's worth, but for the sake of time, we decided on this conveniently located restaurant. The ambience is quite casual, especially for a semi-pricy Italian restaurant. Might be because it's also a cafe-type restaurant? It didn't bother me, especially since they had celebrity designed plates on their wall - which honestly is a bit random. No complaints though, cause they have a plate designed by Billy Martin of Good Charlotte (as well as Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett). =P I don't quite remember what I ordered last time, but this time around I got the Gnocchi Alla Boscaiola (23), which was a gnocchi with bacon, mushrooms, and shallots in a creamy tomato sauce. I wasn't too impressed with the sauce at first, but the more I had it, the more I actually liked it. They were generous about the bacon and mushrooms, which made up for the mediocre gnocchi...Not there was nothing wrong with the gnocchi, but it was a bit flour-y and not as chewy as I liked. I also had a taste of the Papparadelle Pesto e Pollo (25.5), which was a chicken pesto in a spinach cream sauce. It was decent, but I was satisfied with my choice. Though the pasta was just average for the price, the service was a 5/5 that night - attentive and friendly, just the way it should be! I would say (at least that night) it was one of the better places I've had in Brisbane, service-wise.

I like it best on a Friday night when the crowd has started to ebb and you can enjoy a piping hot pasta with friends. They offer a really great menu of Italian options. Other Italian restaurants I've been to in the past bely the name because they only serve generic pizza and pasta, but Pane e Vino is different. You've got your insalata, risotto, pasta, pollo, pesce, panini, and focaccia, and they've even thrown in some schnitzel for something totally different. So maybe it's not wholly Italian, but their choices are so fantastic and that's saying something coming from me, who can sometimes be precious about my meal choices depending on my mood. Finishing off your night with a coffee here is the best way to enjoy it. Meals are served quickly and are really delicious, and the coffee is strong and smooth; just how Italian coffee should be. There's also a really dynamic (and at times eccentric) team here to make your dining experience that much more memorable. It is perfectly located to stay within the city without being right in the heart of the mall. Tick/seal/everything of approval for Pane e Vino.
